A Hundred Memories – K-drama Episode 2 1

Meanwhile, Yeong-rye is left dazed and confused after realizing that Jae-pil is the same person who had come to her rescue in that dark alleyway. Jong-hui, however, pays scant attention to Yeong-rye's revelation, her attention instead captivated by the movie playing on the screen. After the film ends, Yeong-rye inquires about the mysterious stranger, but Jong-hui dismisses him as nothing more than a pervert masquerading as a student. Yeong-rye, though, remains unconvinced.

Back at the dormitory, Hae-ja indulges in a relaxing massage from one of the girls, despite Jong-hui's insistence that such privileges should no longer be extended. The real buzz, however, surrounds Yeong-rye, who drifts off into a blissful dream, typified by her affectionately hugging the leg of a fellow dorm-mate. The others can't resist teasing her about it the next morning, but Jong-hui, ever observant, notices Yeong-rye's growing obsession with a Giants hand towel. She pushes Yeong-rye to spill the beans, but Yeong-rye simply shrugs it off, referring to him as a "guy she doesn't know." Jong-hui squeals with delight at this tantalizing revelation.

Meanwhile, Deok-goo and the other students are summoned to the student office. A disciplinary committee is on the horizon, and Jae-pil is filled with concern. After all, if Deok-goo gets into trouble, he won't be able to participate in the upcoming high-stakes boxing tournament, a prospect that fills Jae-pil with dread.

Jae-pil's conscience weighs heavily on him when Deo-goo's kind-hearted (and undeniably impoverished) father arrives at school, clutching a humble meal meant for his son. Jae-pil hands over the food and conveys the message that today seems to hold some special significance for them. Though the exact reason remains unseen, Deok-goo's eyes well up with tears as he gazes at the meal, struggling to contain his emotions.

Meanwhile, preparations for the 1982 Outstanding Businessperson Award are in full swing, with Jae-pil's father poised to take center stage. However, Gi-bok's world is turned upside down when Jae-pil makes a dramatic entrance just as he's about to step into a room teeming with eager journalists. Jae-pil implores his father not to suspend Deok-goo and pledges to resolve the issue himself. He resorts to blackmail, threatening to expose his father's preferential treatment to the press.

In exchange for dropping the matter, Jae-pil negotiates a deal: he agrees to be tutored with full commitment and to take up boxing three times a week. After some deliberation, Gi-bok finally relents and accepts the terms.

Yeong-rye is consumed by a relentless quest to uncover Jae-pil's origins. Convinced she's cracked the case, she shows up at Giant Nightclub that very night. Alas, it's the wrong place, and her determination leads her to miss dinner, leaving her to trudge home in defeat.

Upon returning to Cheong A, Yeong-rye urges Jong-hui to give her a good slap to snap her out of her obsession. Jong-hui, however, declines to comply. So, Yeong-rye takes Jong-hui back to her home, where they meet her adorable younger siblings, Yeong Bae and Yeong Mi.

The kids are quite sharp, and their mother, though tough, clearly dotes on her daughter. Curiosity gets the better of Jong-hui, and she snoops around what she assumes to be Yeong-rye's room, only to discover it's actually her brother Jeong-sik's.

When Yeong-rye proudly declares her intention to enroll in night school, Jeong-sik generously presents her with a bag brimming with his well-worn textbooks, eager to support her academic pursuits. Back in the dormitory, chaos ensues as Jong-hui's cherished teddy bear accidentally tumbles out of her locker. When her roommates can't resist teasing her about the mishap, Jong-hui swiftly snatches it up, her voice rising in a fierce retort that leaves everyone momentarily stunned. With a sudden laugh, she brushes it off, insisting she was merely playing along, and hastily shoves the teddy back into her locker. Yet, her behavior grows increasingly peculiar on the bus ride home; she ducks low, her eyes wary, as she spots a shadowy figure lurking at the street corner.

Meanwhile, tragedy strikes Yeong-rye's family when her mother suffers a harrowing accident on her way home from work. She slips, loses her grip on the cart, and watches in horror as it shatters into pieces. Upon learning the news, Yeong-rye rushes home, her heart pounding, only to find her mother nursing wounds on her arm and knees. However, Park Man-ok's primary concern lies with the cart—now a wreck beyond repair, and with a year's worth of payments still looming over them, plunging the family into a dire financial crisis.

Caught between her unwavering loyalty to her family and her burning desire to carve out a better future for herself, Yeong-rye finds herself at a crossroads. Desperate to alleviate her mother's burdens, she attempts to secure an advance on her salary, but Mr. No, her employer, reacts with fury, sternly refusing her request. With no other recourse, Yeong-rye turns to her uncle, the same one her mother had berated in the previous episode for his perceived uselessness. Having borrowed money from the family and showing no signs of repayment, he coldly turns down Yeong-rye's plea for assistance, offering her only bus fare for the journey home.

The situation grows increasingly bleak, especially as Yeong-rye makes a futile attempt to mend the broken cart herself. As rain pounds down relentlessly, her efforts prove fruitless, only serving to deepen her mother's despair at witnessing her daughter's failed attempts to help. Inside, tears stream silently down Park Man-ok's face, while outside, a defeated Yeong-rye trudges back to the dormitory, her spirit as battered as the cart she tried to save.

Outside, she busies herself with cleaning the buses, when suddenly Jong-hui saunters over, eager for a chat. As they talk, it emerges that the teddy bear she once owned secretly harbors a treasure trove of notes tucked inside. With a generous gesture, she hands the teddy over to Yeong-rye, hoping it will provide some much-needed financial relief for her family. She makes Yeong-rye vow to repay her kindness once she becomes a teacher. Yeong-rye is taken aback by the substantial sum nestled within the bear's fur, realizing how significantly it could alleviate her family's burdens. Overwhelmed, she is deeply moved by Jong-hui's unparalleled generosity.

Jong-hui candidly confesses that she's found immense joy in the blossoming of their friendship and even appears with her family when Yeong-rye presents them with a brand-new cart. Interestingly, Jong-hui isn't the only one extending a helping hand financially. Jeong-sik’s companion, Jeong-hyeon, arrives with an envelope brimming with cash, yet he hesitates at the doorstep, realizing he's arrived a tad too late.

As the episode draws to a close, Jae-pil finally relents and consents to attend the 4 vs 4 gathering orchestrated by his friend Sang-cheol. The notion of this meeting has been teased intermittently throughout the episode, but this time, the plans materialize.

However, Jae-pil is left flabbergasted when Young-rye and Jong-hui unexpectedly make an appearance as well.
