A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – Season 1 Episode 6

Published: Feb 25 2026

The sixth episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms unfolds with Lyonel and Dunk sitting beneath the majestic Oak tree on the outskirts of Ashford Meadow. Lyonel's mood is infectious, as he tries to lift the spirits of his downhearted friend by offering him some ale. The tourney has ended on a bitter note for Dunk, especially after Baelor's death. Lyonel extends an invitation for Dunk to return with him to Storm's End, promising to treat him like a brother. Despite Baelor's sacrifice, Lyonel's sentiments towards the man are clear: he sees Baelor as a fraud who fought with little regard for consequence, as the Kingsguard couldn't touch him. He believes this to be the Gods' will, and gestures towards Dunk, pointing out that this is a mockery conducted by those same Gods.

In a tender moment, Raymun comforts Dunk, acknowledging that he doesn't see him as a villain or blame him. He even hugs the big man, offering a small measure of comfort in a difficult time.

However, this moment is interrupted when Prince Maekar summons Dunk to his chamber. Maekar is feeling the weight of guilt after striking Baelor with the killing blow in the field. He also resents that Baelor fought for Dunk and that it was the hedge knight's actions that put him in such danger.

Maekar reveals that he wants Egg to squire for Dunk and that there's a place for them at Summerhall. However, Dunk will need to swear his sword to Maekar, and then Aegon will squire for him. While Dunk trains him, Maekar will have his master-at-arms work to finish Dunk's own training. However, Dunk rejects the offer and decides he's done with Princes.

The scene concludes with a sense of disappointment and resignation from both Maekar and Dunk, as the former struggles with his guilt and the latter with his decision to distance himself from the royal circles.

That afternoon, Dunk confronts Daeron, who persuades him to take Egg as his squire. Daeron subtly implies that the Targaryen family will turn their young into bitter and twisted individuals if Egg doesn't become Dunk's squire. It's a tactic to make Dunk reconsider the plan, while Egg shows up in Aerion's room with a knife. Prince Maekar, watching from a distance with tears streaming down his cheeks, convinces him to drop the knife just in time. This is because Dunk returns and decides to take Egg as his squire after all. He doesn't want to take him to Summerhill but instead offers to hit the road together. Maekar is reluctant to let him go, pointing out that Egg is his "last son" and doesn't want him living in ditches and as a peasant.

Before leaving Ashford Meadow, Dunk's old horse Sweetfoot is returned. It's a lovely moment, but Dunk decides she may be better suited for Raymun to go head to the Orchard with him.

How does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms end? As Dunk ponders his next move, Egg returns to be Dunk's squire, claiming that Maekar let him go after all. The pair hit the road, and Dunk decides they should head for Dorne together. The final shot of these two shows Ser Arlan on his horse alongside them, heading in the opposite direction. As for the Targaryens, they leave Ashford Meadow where Prince Maekar scrambles to find Egg. It turns out he left on his own accord without telling the others.
