Mr. Kuglar, the supervisor of Opekta, exited his home, bound for the office, clutching a bag filled with his wife's homemade sweet treats. Arriving early, he joined his colleagues, Mr. Kleiman and Bep, along with the two other employees. With a beaming smile, he proudly displayed the goodies his spouse had lovingly prepared.

Shortly after, Miep appeared, and the atmosphere was relaxed and ready for the day's work. Suddenly, the Gestapo stormed into the office, their threats hanging heavily in the air. They aimed their guns at Miep and the others, demanding that Kuglar guide them through every room of the complex.

While Miep, Bep, and Kleiman trembled in fear, Kuglar obliged. As Kleiman whispered a request to Bep, she sneaked away with crucial documents. The Gestapo noticed traces of a door on the floor, suspecting it was a secret entrance to a hidden annex. They pressed Kuglar to unlock it, threatening his life.

At Kuglar's whistle, the Franks emerged from their hiding place. The Van Pels family, the Franks, and Fritz Pfeffer were all arrested by the Nazis after nearly two years in hiding. Although Kuglar and Kleiman were detained, they begged the Nazis to spare Miep, insisting she knew nothing of the annex. But Miep, brave and resolute, refused to deny her role.

A Gestapo soldier engaged Miep in conversation. It turned out he hailed from Vienna, and he showed her a degree of leniency, sparing her imprisonment. She tried her best but could not prevent the Franks' capture.

As Jan watched anxiously, the Franks, the Pels family, Fritz, Kuglar, and Kleiman were shoved into a police van. When he failed to spot Miep, his anxiety deepened.

Later in the afternoon, Jan returned to the office and found comfort in Miep's presence. When Bep and the other hidden individuals returned to the complex, they discovered that the Nazis had taken the Franks and the others.

Miep and Jan struggled to devise a plan to rescue the imprisoned Franks, Pels, and Pfeffer families. They realized their options were limited. Miep proposed a bribe, hoping a large sum of money would persuade the Nazis to release the captives.

Concerned for his safety, Kuno decided to leave Miep's house. He packed his belongings and departed. Jan and Miep worked tirelessly to raise the necessary funds. Initially, Jan insisted on going alone to protect his wife, but Miep argued that the Viennese policeman would do her a favor as they shared a hometown.
