Abbott Elementary – Season 3 Episode 2

Ironically, hindering Ava's proficiency in her role would paradoxically ease the burden on everyone at Abbott. Consequently, the staff resorts to every conceivable tactic at their disposal, such as enticing her into duping Jacob or诱惑 her with Usher concert tickets. They even unleash their "ultimate weapon" by having Gregory, with his muscular arms exposed in short sleeves, make a grand entrance at the doorway. When these maneuvers prove futile, Barbara alone conceives a foolproof scheme. They sequester Ava in the gym and, after bidding Jesus to turn a deaf ear, Barbara plays the one tune she knows will cast a spell over her, reverting her to her default state like a magical pied piper's melody. We've all experienced those nights where nothing seems to go right, until a faint tune emerges from the speakers—an orchestra chirping out a recognizable rhythm, accompanied by snare drums and hi-hats, before Juvenile's voice rises above the cacophony, beckoning: "Cash Money Records taking over for the '99 and the 2000." Our bodies move instinctively, dancing with a fervor we never knew we possessed. Such is the trance that Ava falls into as "Back That Azz Up" blares through the loudspeakers. Initially resistant, her knees give way, her shoulders bob, and soon she's fully immersed, hurling her glasses aside and exclaiming, "I'm back, y'all!"

Abbott Elementary – Season 3 Episode 2 1

The narrative skips ahead to Career Day, where Janine oversees an array of professionals in each classroom. Barbara secures a cosmetologist who provides her with a TikTok-worthy beat, Gregory lands a botanist, Melissa arranges for someone involved in marketing for the Eagles, and Jacob is visited by Mr. Johnson—undoubtedly the most intriguing of them all, as he captivates the class with tales of his work with the Sicilian mob and his clandestine Senate infiltrations. However, Melissa's visitor steals the show, as it doubles as an audacious, Hail Mary-inspired proposal from Gary, despite her persistent reminders that she has no desire to remarry. Gary interprets her refusal as a challenge to create a miraculous situation that would compel her to say yes (how dreadful a proposal method!) and arranges for Philadelphia royalty Jalen Hurts to livestream his proposal during Career Day.

Melissa rejects Gary's proposal, leading to a heart-wrenching breakup and a discussion about boundaries. Nonetheless, the students couldn't care less, for they had met Jalen Hurts and two other athletes (I'm no sports fan, but I recognize one as Travis Kelce's brother! I only know Jalen because he's a heartthrob, lol), making it the best Career Day they could have ever imagined. Initially, Janine chastises herself for the commotion caused by Jalen's call, which prompted all the students to abandon their classrooms. However, her spontaneous problem-solving—live-streaming Jalen throughout the school rather than just Melissa's class—impresses Manny and the rest of the district, who deem Career Day a resounding success. As Janine said, she devoured the challenge wholeheartedly!
