The second installment of Season 3 of "Alert: Missing Persons Unit" unfolds with Raina, an inmate granted early parole, exuding joy as she checks into a cozy motel. Her exhilaration takes a deceptive turn when she receives a call, presumably from her parole officer, and fabricates a job opportunity. In reality, the "job" she refers to is far from legitimate; it's a meticulously planned kidnapping of Nikki.
The narrative shifts to Nikki, oblivious to the impending danger, going about her errands with a spring in her step. Meanwhile, Raina stealthily sneaks into Nikki's vehicle, coiled like a predator waiting for the perfect moment to strike. By the time Nikki senses the looming peril, it's a fraction of a second too late. Raina overpowers her with a swift injection, rendering Nikki helpless.
Back at the office, Chief Inspector Houston pays a visit, sparking concern when he mentions Raina's parole and her complex history with Nikki. A decade ago, Nikki had arrested Raina, leading to the tragic death of Raina's brother during the operation. It's evident that Raina harbors a vendetta, and no one had the foresight to caution Nikki about her release.
The team springs into action, delving into Raina's background while frantically searching for Nikki. Kemi tracks Nikki's GPS, only to discover her car torched on the outskirts of the city, thankfully without Nikki inside. Michael's patience wears thin as the team hastily issues a "Be On the Lookout" (BOLO) for Raina and declares Nikki missing.
Raina's escape takes a dangerous turn when a patrol officer pulls her over for a busted taillight. He's poised to let her go with a mere warning until he spots a hand reaching out from within the car, ready to discard something incriminating. Before he can radio for assistance or sound the alarm, Raina unleashes a hail of bullets, striking him three times, and speeds off, leaving Nikki a chilling warning in her wake.
As the search for Nikki intensifies, the team receives an update on the wounded officer. Miraculously, he survives and identifies Raina as the assailant. Michael and Jason rush to the crime scene, where they uncover a laundry receipt dropped by Raina. This clue leads them to the laundry store where Nikki was abducted. They secure CCTV footage capturing the kidnapping but find themselves at a dead end regarding Raina's whereabouts with Nikki.
As the tension escalates, Jason endeavors to keep Mike's composure intact. Meanwhile, Kemi clutches to her belief that Nikki will emerge unscathed, albeit her heart races with the fear that time is swiftly slipping away for her friend. As the investigative threads unravel further, the team uncovers that Raina harbored a relationship with her former cellmate, who was granted release several months prior and has visited her at least a dozen times thereafter.
Jason and Mike hastily converge on the woman's apartment, where they fortuitously intercept Raina and Jennifer in the midst of their getaway. Raina lunges at Jason with a knife, but his swift reflexes overpower her, resulting in her arrest. Yet, Raina remains tight-lipped about Nikki's whereabouts, inciting Mike's desperation and forcing him to relinquish control to Jason. Jason employs a tactics, threatening to charge Jennifer as an accessory to Raina's crimes, which finally cracks Raina's resolve. She confesses that an unknown individual, whom she refers to as 'Santa,' hired her for half a million dollars to abduct Nikki, promising her freedom. Blinded by the prospect of Christmas come early, she accepted without hesitation, only to later abandon Nikki without encountering the men who hired her. The solitary clue she can provide is a Celtic Knot tattoo belonging to one of them.
Amazingly, this leads the team straight to Charlie. Houston cautions the team to approach with delicate precision. Kemi stumbles upon a crucial lead—the same lawyer who is defending Raina also represented Charles years prior. Houston orchestrates a meeting with Charles, intending to disrupt his guard while they piece together his motives. It seems nonsensical, given that Nikki heroically saved Charles' daughter in the preceding episode. However, Charles offers no incriminating insights, proving too clever to trap himself.
Following the meeting, Houston taps into a favor from an old colleague at the CIA. The revelation is staggering: Nikki was poised to meet with the FBI, ready to present damning evidence that would ensure Charles' final incarceration. The anonymous ally also discloses that the CIA has a covert tracker on Charles' vehicle. This lead guides the team to Ridley Creek State Park. Jason, the first to arrive, spots Nikki's body. His eyes lock onto her hands, where the engagement ring instantaneously confirms his darkest fears. With heavy heart, he restrains Mike from rushing forward.
Nikki's passing strikes a deep chord within the team, leaving an indelible mark. Mike is overwhelmed with grief, his sorrow beyond words—utterly inconsolable. The coroner's assurance that Nikki's demise was swift, a single bullet to the head, offers little solace to Mike, who storms away as the coroner removes her body.
Kemi meticulously examines the surveillance footage of Nikki's kidnapping from the laundry store. She detects a crucial detail: Nikki had ventured to the mail store adjacent to the laundry before proceeding to her fateful destination. Realizing the significance of the key discovered in Nikki's incinerated car, Kemi deduces it opens a mailbox. She promptly contacts Jason, instructing him to retrieve the contents of Nikki's mailbox.
Upon opening it, Jason is confronted with an array of incriminating evidence Nikki had painstakingly gathered against Charles over the years. Among these, a poignant letter from Nikki stands out. Jason rushes to inform the team, but Mike is nowhere to be found. After an anxious search, they discover Mike on a mission to confront Charles.
Mike tracks down Charles and escorts him back to the park where Nikki met her untimely end. Consumed by rage and the desire for vengeance, Mike's judgment is clouded. Fortunately, Jason arrives just in time to intervene, soothing Mike's frayed nerves and apprehending Charles.
In the aftermath, Jason shares Nikki's letter with the team, providing a poignant tribute to her memory. For Mike, the days following Nikki's death blur together as they honor her bravery with a dignity-filled burial. Thanks to Nikki's diligent efforts, Charles faces a lengthy imprisonment, paying the penalty for his misdeeds.
