As the sunset curtsied over the dinner table, Spencer and Grace (played by Karimah Westbrook) finished their meal with NFL coach Bryant (Chris Cordone), who just so happened to be the uncle of Spencer's agent, Eric (David Gridley). The coach's eyes glistened with admiration for Spencer's accomplishments, both on and off the field, marveling at the challenge of being raised by a single mother. But this praise bothered Spencer, who brushed it off with a confident smile, insisting that he never lacked for anything and that his mother was his rock.

The next day, as Spencer arrived for the NFL Combine, he was greeted by Eric's boss, Gordon (Brendan Wentworth), who was there in Eric's stead due to the grandeur of the occasion. After a restful night's sleep, Spencer dove into the interview mode, speaking with coaching staffs from various teams. Each question probed deeper into Spencer's personal life, from his high school football quitting to Olivia (Samantha Logan) and her involvement in the GAU cheating scandal, to his affiliation with gangs, and even the dynamics between his mother and Billy (Taye Diggs). He left the interviews weighed down by the intrusive questions.

When Olivia called to check on him, he was short-tempered and mentioned how dreadful the day had been. Despite her attempts to reassure him that everything would be okay, he was skeptical. After their conversation ended, Olivia discussed the situation with Laura (Monet Mazur), who had firsthand experience at the combine from Billy's time there. Laura encouraged her daughter to be there for Spencer.

As night fell, Spencer ran into Darnell (Da'Vinchi), who urged him to join the other NFL prospects for a night out. But Spencer wasn't in the mood. Darnell commented that Spencer needed to loosen up and live in the moment, realizing that they were on the cusp of realizing their dreams. That comment earned a small smile from Spencer, but he still headed back to his room.

Gordon paid a visit to Spencer and wanted to discuss the interviews. He assured him that everyone was being asked invasive questions. The agent warned Spencer that he needed to learn how to play the game like Darnell and Wade (Christian James), as while they were climbing up in the draft ranking, he was sliding down.

With all the advice Spencer receives, it's Olivia's unexpected visit to his hotel room that truly helps him break out of his slump. She urges him to connect with the other guys going through the combine experience, urging him to be genuinely thoughtful in his interviews and not overly reactive. Olivia reminds him that everything he's been through hasn't broken him but has shaped him into the person he is today, advising him to remember that going forward. When the second day of interviews kicks off, Spencer hits every question out of the park with his answers, demonstrating his poise and intelligence. By the end of the episode, he meets up with Olivia and shares the news that he's a top-five draft pick. She's thrilled by the news and shares her own: she's decided to share her father's legacy through a children's book, a switch from her original biography idea.

Meanwhile, Layla is under pressure at her lounge as they prepare to launch a brunch. Talking to Jordan (Michael Evan Behling), she notes how much therapy homework she has to complete. Her latest assignment is listing her successes and failures for the year. Wanting her to focus on her mental health, Jordan encourages her to miss the first day of brunch service and let him take care of things. He reminds her that she already set up everything and he can do this favor for her. Layla ultimately takes him up on his offer.

On the day of the brunch, things are going well with only some minor hiccups. Asher and Jaymee (Miya Horcher), the only members of The Vortex able to make it, talk with Jordan about how much they've enjoyed the food when a bartender suddenly quits. Things go from bad to worse when Jordan tries to take over bartending duties but is without use of one arm due to an injury he got playing with baby AJ. Thankfully, Jaymee is there and has restaurant experience, swooping in to save the day.

When Layla calls Jordan to check on things and hears that a bartender quit, she immediately heads to the lounge. However, upon her arrival, things are running smoothly thanks to Jaymee, who offers to help Layla with brunch service tomorrow. The following day, things are running even better with Jaymee serving as de facto manager. Impressed, Layla offers Jaymee the opportunity to be a full-time manager of her place. Layla also wants time to focus on other things. Jaymee initially turns down the opportunity, but after speaking with Asher, who encourages her to do something she loves, Jaymee accepts the position.

Now with more free time, Layla is ready to get back into producing music. She took some time off after Patience's (Chelsea Tavares) near-death experience but is now ready to dive back into the music industry with renewed passion and enthusiasm.

Asher receives the news that Coach Montes has accepted a position as an NFL coach, leaving him in a state of shock. Uncertain about the implications for his own coaching career at Coastal, he is more perplexed by the thought of saying goodbye. Much of the episode finds Asher avoiding Coach Montes' phone calls, unsure how to properly bid farewell.

It's only after a heart-to-heart with Olivia that Asher realizes Coach Montes is leaving Coastal but not necessarily leaving him behind. Olivia offers to babysit AJ, giving Asher the chance to attend Coach Montes' going-away party – a luxury he never had with Billy.

Despite his best efforts, Asher arrives too late to the party, only to find Coach Montes already gone. However, he is met by his wife, the other Coach Montes (played by Alexandra Barreto), who catches up with him. She hands Asher a note and a necklace from her husband, telling him that her husband doesn't worry about what's next for Asher as he'll have more championship rings than fingers and bought him the necklace as a reminder.

Just as Mr. Montes calls Asher again, he answers this time, realizing the significance of the moment. The episode concludes with an in-memoriam video dedicated to Coach Montes actor Kamar de los Reyes, who had passed away in real life.
