American Primeval – Season 1 Episode 6 1

Regarding the bounty hunters' fate, Lucas condemns Virgil for his harshness, leading the latter to relent and permit Lucas to offer Sara a blanket. Sara, desperate, pleads for Lucas's assistance, though he can only offer apologies. Suddenly, Isaac strikes, and in the ensuing tumult, Lucas is shot in the leg. It is then revealed that Lucas is Virgil's younger brother, causing Virgil to panic and attempt surrender. Amid the chaos, Isaac secures Sara's freedom, and together they confront and defeat Virgil. As Lucas rushes to his wounded brother, Isaac and Sara rush back to the cabin, where Two Moons, despite an injured arm, is safe and sound. They subsequently set off towards Crooks Spring.

As for the Shoshones and the Pratts, Brigham Young orders Hickman to eliminate the Shoshones for shielding Abish Pratt. Along his journey, Hickman encounters a disoriented Jacob Pratt and brings him back to the Militia, falsely believing that bounty hunters had killed Cook. They concoct a lie, claiming the Shoshones murdered Abish, inciting Jacob's thirst for vengeance. They position him at the forefront of the battle, ensuring he perishes before he could encounter Abish.

Meanwhile, the Shoshones brace themselves for war, with Red Feather adorning Abish's face with war paint. At nightfall, the Mormon Militia launches their attack, but it quickly turns disastrous due to the Shoshones' numerical disadvantage. Red Feather is shot down before he can slay Wolsey. His son rushes to his side, but both fall victim to the Militia's bullets. In a climactic moment, Abish confronts a hooded Jacob, who shoots her. As he approaches closer and uncovers his face, they are stunned to recognize each other. Jacob kisses her, then takes his own life as she expires. Winter Bird too succumbs to their fate.

Why does Jim relinquish Fort Bridger to the Mormons? It's because Young, with a hint of coercion in his offer, presents Jim with an amount that is simply too tempting to decline. Young threatens that in two days' time, the fort will be reduced to ashes, thereby minimizing the strategic positions for US soldiers to seize and reclaim Utah. When those two days elapsed, it was surprising to find that the locals hadn't evacuated; instead, they were reveling at the inn, with Jim generously distributing most of the money he received. He argues that possessing such a fortune would only draw unwanted attention to him, and at his advanced age, relocating elsewhere to rebuild his life seems impractical. Yet, Jim is well-aware of when to prioritize his survival. As the Mormons set the fort ablaze, Jim meanders through its ruins while Young sermonizes about their religious renaissance.

As for Sara, does she make it to Crooks Spring? As Sara's group nears Crooks Spring, Isaac shares the story of his family with Devin and crafts a crutch for the boy, prompting Sara to jest that Isaac's heart is finally beating with purpose. With Crooks Spring just half a mile away, Sara suggests that Isaac turn back, emphasizing his need to be with his loved ones. Devin, reluctant to let him go, bids him a tearful farewell. Isaac expresses his hope that Sara can reclaim her smile, to which she confesses that it's his smile she truly desires. They share a kiss before Isaac reluctantly retraces his steps. As Sara prepares the horses, she notices that Isaac has returned the money to her. Isaac's spirits dampen when he spots the doll belonging to the French girl, which Tilly had given to Lucas as a jest.

Lucas, indeed keeping a close watch on Sara, threatens her once Isaac has departed. She offers him the money, but he's bent on making her endure by taking her back to the Holloways. She alerts Devin to the ongoing danger and grabs her gun. Just before Lucas can pull the trigger, Isaac returns and fires at him. A fierce gun battle ensues, culminating in Isaac grappling with Lucas. Though Lucas meets his end, the group realizes that Isaac has been wounded in the stomach. They weep as he passes away, and honor him with a Shoshone funeral before heading to California at the conclusion of Episode 6 of American Primeval.
