Barry – Season 4 Episode 4 1

Jim, relentless in his pursuit of Barry, faces an urgent plea from a cop: not to end Barry's life should he encounter him first. Jim remains noncommittal, his intentions shrouded in uncertainty. The police have strategically positioned units outside Gene's residence, his woodland cabin, NoHo Hank's headquarters, and Sally's location, tightening the noose around potential leads.

To defuse the simmering tensions, Hank and Cristobal devise a strategy: organizing an R&R (rest and relaxation) event for the Chinese and Guatemalan factions. Meanwhile, Sally finds herself at the Mega Girls set with Kristen, her eager student from the previous episode, and is awestruck by the colossal scale of the production. To her delight, she spots Sian Heder, the visionary director behind the acclaimed film CODA. Sally, an avid admirer, approaches her idol, only to discover Sian expressing disappointment at helming such a tacky project after her masterpiece.

Kristen's lines stumble, prompting Sally to step in, coaching her with unwavering encouragement. As Gene's agent Tom finally gets a signal, he breaks the news of Barry's escape to a hysterical Gene, who frantically scours the cabin's vicinity for his would-be assassin. Elsewhere, Sally, joined by Sian and Kristen's agent Mark, chase after a flustered Kristen. Sally demonstrates the scene, earning praise from Sian and rekindling Kristen's confidence. Now, it's a matter of coaxing Kristen to complete the scene with conviction.

In a dramatic twist, SWAT teams storm the wrong location—the venue where the Chinese and Guatemalans were to meet. At the actual headquarters, Hank executes the leaders of both groups in a bizarre quicksand drowning ordeal. Cristobal narrowly escapes a similar fate, saved at the last moment by Hank. Unbeknownst to Cristobal, Hank had struck a deal with Batir, leading to Chechen henchmen slaying the remaining members of both factions to seize control. This revelation leaves Cristobal feeling utterly betrayed by Hank.

Fuchs unexpectedly earns the admiration of his fellow inmates by keeping silent about Barry's whereabouts, defying the police. In the most eerie and poignant moment of this season, Gene commits an unthinkable act, shooting his own son, Leo, who had innocently brought back Gene's cherished items from Coral Tree Coffee, mistakenly believing them to be from Barry. Meanwhile, Sally finds herself courted by Mark, who proposes she become Kristen's acting coach and representative, a potential stepping stone for her to revive her career. Though she agrees to consider it, her thoughts are soon disrupted when Kristen drops the bombshell news about Barry's prison escape.

Andrei surrenders the keys to the Chechens' LA operations to Hank, empowering him with an army of Chechens to expand their enterprise. Hank revels in this newfound strength, but Cristobal is devastated and appalled by Hank's ruthless demeanor. Hank justifies his actions by highlighting the Chechens' ultimatum: either halt the sand operation or face death, and his aspiration to reign supreme as LA's ultimate crime boss. Cristobal reveals his desire for legitimacy in their venture, to which Hank dismisses him as "naive."

Cristobal declares their separation, intending to distance himself from Hank forever. Initially, Hank threatens, but soon realizes the peril Cristobal faces if he attempts to sever ties. When Cristobal remains steadfast, Hank re-enters with a defeatist air, breaking down in tears until interrupted by the sound of the door. Upon entering, a Chechen enforcer, bearing a striking resemblance to Cristobal in the dim light, coldly states, "It had to be done." The scene cuts to Cristobal's lifeless body by his car, as Hank bids him a solemn farewell.

Outside Sally's home, Jim waits patiently. When she arrives, she calls out for Barry, who emerges hesitantly. He attempts to apologize, but Sally cuts him short with a firm, "Let's go." Barry responds with a puzzled squeak, "Really?" clearly baffled by her sudden resolve.

The episode concludes with a surreal twist. John, the child we've been following throughout this season, is revealed to be not Barry but another character entirely. After a scuffle with his brother Travis, John is sent home, which happens to be on the very field where the action unfolds. He opens the fridge to find champagne bottles and beer cans alongside a half-eaten doughnut, while in the background stands a grown-up Sally and Barry – revealed as John and Travis' parents, painting a haunting picture of their intertwined past and present.
