Beauty in Black – Season 1 Episode 3 1

Horace, who has built an empire on understanding people, persists in highlighting Kimmie's uniqueness. He then delivers a bombshell: he has prostate cancer, a secret kept from his family. Here, it becomes clear that Horace is a Bellarie, the influential patriarch of his clan.

He cautions Kimmie against using the Beauty in Black products, particularly the lye relaxer, which is the crux of the lawsuit and has already caused cancer in women. Before parting ways, Horace mentions that Angel has stolen his watch, a sentimental heirloom, and insists she retrieve it. Without hesitation, Kimmie confronts Angel, demanding the watch back on Jules' father's behalf, revealing that he is the true authority here. Angel, initially reluctant, eventually complies.

Elsewhere, at the hospital, Norman is beside himself with worry as his partner, Ina, lies injured from a hit-and-run. Jules, connected to monitors and in a medically induced coma, tries to soothe his distress. However, Norman's fury knows no bounds; he's baffled by how Jules ended up in a tow yard and is bent on seeking justice. Jules contacts Mallory to forewarn her, but Mallory dismissively claims that as head of security, it's Jules' responsibility to handle the situation.

The following day, Body and Daga make their presence felt at Kimmie's motel room. With the intent to send a message, they beat her severely, though mercifully avoiding her face, leaving her with obvious bruises that will undoubtedly be noticed. Clutching her ribs in pain, Kimmie arrives at the hospital, ostensibly seeking medical attention but truly to visit Rain.

Upon her arrival at the ward, the nurses exchange giggles, anticipating her reaction to witnessing Rain's battered state. Evidently, they neglected to administer any pain medication, leaving Rain in a dire condition. Switching gears to the corporate melodrama, Olivia emerges as the formidable patriarchess, her hand instrumental in shaping Beauty in Black. She storms back home, hell-bent on uncovering the perpetrator who left Ina roadside. Her suspicions fall far from her son Charles, who's engrossed in a blatant sexual encounter with a stranger, the curtains not even offering a pretense of privacy. Charles's sibling, Roy, sheds light on the familial portrait from earlier.

Charles shares a frosty relationship with his father, and tensions escalate at the workplace as Olivia begins probing into Ina's plight. Mallory, barely maintaining composure, undergoes Olivia's grilling until Roy intervenes, momentarily averting disaster. Yet, his moment of relief is shattered when he discovers the AI on his phone, realizing instantly that Kimmie orchestrated the setup. Enraged, Roy storms off in pursuit of revenge.

Outside the hospital, Jules recounts the events of the first two episodes to Rain before arriving to pick up Kimmie. He's incensed by her defiance, conveying his message through a threatening demeanor. In a harrowing scene, he nearly collides with her in front of an ambulance, but the vehicle's safety mechanisms intervene. Jules vows, however, that her next visit to the hospital will be in a morgue.

Meanwhile, Norman persists in his search, uncovering Ina's shoe on a secluded road leading back to their residence. In parallel, Roy plots to confront and torment Kimmie. Agreeing to his plan, things spiral during a board meeting when Charles, caught red-handed by Horace, indulges in texting his lover, earning a fierce rebuke.

All this petty squabbling merely serves as a thin veil, covering up the colossal issue at hand—the burgeoning cancer lawsuit that seems to be gaining momentum with each passing moment. The gravity of the situation lies in its potential to financially devastate the entire family if it progresses. Just then, Norman storms in, demanding a clarification. Having discovered the shoe, he is acutely aware that one among them ran over Ina, and he yearns to uncover the culprit.
