Bodkin – Season 1 Episode 7 1

Meanwhile, Seamus arrived in search of Sean, and Emmy, unable to hold her tongue any longer, confessed to Mrs. O'Shea that she was aware of the unfolding drama. Dove saw an opportunity to broker a deal with the Interpol agents. She offered to deliver Seamus to them in exchange for her freedom. They reluctantly agreed, fastening an ankle bracelet to ensure she wouldn't flee.

Mrs. O'Shea, feeling a sense of urgency, begged Emmy to reason with Sean and prevent him from making a catastrophic mistake. She realized that it was up to them to protect him. Deep down, she felt a pang of guilt, thinking that she had failed Fiona. Fiona's dying wish had been to keep Seamus away from Sean, but now it seemed like an impossible task.

Dove tracked down Seamus with ease and proposed a deal, but he refused. However, their quiet negotiation was interrupted by the sudden arrival of the McArdles at his house. Seamus and Dove scrambled to hide, but not before Bronagh brutally killed Seamus's beloved dog.

Desperate, Dove tried to persuade Seamus to retrieve the eels and fight back, or at least assist Gilbert. But Seamus remained steadfast, refusing to budge. Dove, realizing the gravity of the situation, attempted to save Gilbert by warning him of the McArdles' imminent arrival in Bodkin. Gilbert, excited by the prospect of more twists in his story, revealed a bombshell - that Sean was actually Fiona and Seamus's son. Dove's heart sank as she realized the full scope of the mess she had stumbled into.

Elsewhere, Emmy found Sean hiding in the woods and tried to reason with him, urging him to see the folly of his actions regarding the eels. But would he listen? The stakes were higher now, and the drama was reaching its climax.

Dove and Gilbert hatched a daring plan to safeguard everyone's lives before the dreaded McArdles arrived to wreak havoc. Gilbert cleverly sent a cryptic text to Seamus, hinting that he knew Fiona's whereabouts. They rendezvoused at the vibrant Samhain festival, stealing a moment before the revelry truly began.

Seamus cornered Gilbert, demanding the truth about Fiona's fate. Gilbert reluctantly spilled the beans, revealing the heartbreaking truth that Fiona had perished and Sean was, in fact, her son. He confessed to being Sean's father.

Meanwhile, Edna sought Emmy's assistance to locate Sean and persuade him to return home. But their plans were shattered when Seamus arrived on the scene, breaking the news to Sean that he was his biological father. Sean, oblivious to the drama unfolding, rattled off a barrage of facts about Romania, mistakenly believing he hailed from that land. He tersely dismissed Seamus, ordering him to "f*** off."

Seamus, enraged, whipped out a gun and pointed it at Edna, alias Mrs. O'Shea, accusing her of keeping Sean's existence a secret for years. As she confessed that Fiona had feared him, not the McArdles, Seamus lunged to pull the trigger. Sean, acting instinctively, leaped in front of Edna and grabbed the gun, but not without suffering a grisly injury—Seamus had shot off his thumb!

Just then, Interpol agents swooped in to apprehend Seamus. He seized Gilbert as a hostage and fled the chaotic scene at gunpoint. As they sped away, Seamus forced Gilbert to empty his pockets, the episode's titular action unfolding with tension and drama. He vowed to give the podcast an ending that it truly deserved.

Back at the festival, Dove and Emmy engaged in a heated exchange. Emmy lambasted Dove for jeopardizing Gilbert's life in her quest to assist Interpol in capturing Seamus. She scolded Dove, accusing her of being oblivious to the consequences of her actions. For the first time in the series, Dove conceded that Emmy was right, admitting her mistake with a heavy heart.

Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by a message from Gilbert, revealing his location. But before they could act, Interpol agents intervened, prompting Emmy to challenge them for using Dove as a pawn in their game and creating this mess. She revealed that she had recorded their conversation, leaving the agents stunned and retreating.

Undaunted, Dove and Emmy forged an alliance to stop Seamus, heading straight for the Samhain Festival where the final confrontation awaited.

In the midst of the mayhem, Seamus hatched a diabolical plan: assassinate Gilbert, detonate explosives at the Samhain Festival, and flee undetected by Interpol and the McArdles. Fortunately, Dove and Emmy arrived on the scene to intervene. They rescued Gilbert, and then separated again to rescue the town and its inhabitants. Emmy valiantly took up the mantle of saving the day, while Dove pursued Seamus, disabling his escape raft before he could reach the open sea.

Meanwhile, Emmy valiantly tried to divert the crowd away from the Samhain Festival, but Fintan proved to be a dismal disappointment, offering no assistance. Instead, Teddy took up the mantle of a hero, singing to lure the crowd to safety just before Seamus detonated the explosives.

Back at the beach, where Seamus was plotting his escape, the McArdles and Interpol arrived on the scene. Dove gave Seamus an ultimatum: face the McArdles or Interpol. He chose to detonate everything, unleashing chaos. The eels, contained in the town's water truck, exploded violently, flying through the air and landing on everyone present.

Dove and Emmy raced to the blast site to find Gilbert, who fortunately escaped just before the explosion. However, back at the beach, Seamus had vanished into thin air. The trigger device lay abandoned on the shore, and all the McArdles had disappeared without a trace.

Initially, in my Bodkin ending article, I speculated that the McArdles might have perished in the explosion, but upon a second viewing, I'm inclined to believe they've simply vanished, along with Seamus.

The events unfolded rapidly after that. Gilbert recorded the final episode of his podcast and discarded his recorder into the water before leaving town in Sean's car. Dove returned to the convent where she grew up, meeting with the head nun and revealing her plans to launch a podcast about the convent. What a twist!

And Emmy? She landed Dove's old job at The Guardian. Aware of the vacancy, she boldly demanded the position from Dove's former boss, and he acquiesced. The whole scenario was truly astonishing!
