Confidence Queen – K-drama Episode 6 1

After some back-and-forth, Chairwoman Lee finally caves, agreeing to an additional 10% payment, and Yi-rang gives her consent. However, the plan isn't to actually perform a proper surgery on the Chairwoman. Instead, their goal is to make it appear legitimate, ensuring her survival all the while. As long as they steer clear of any reckless or foolish moves, they believe they can pull it off seamlessly... or so they hope.

To carry out this charade, Yi-rang enlists her top specialists to lend an air of authenticity. Meanwhile, Seong-woo observes anxiously from a neighboring room, his nerves frayed. James, ever the troublemaker, interferes with the video feed at every turn, ratcheting up the tension even further.

As for Yi-rang and her crew, they stall for as much time as they can before Yi-rang finally takes the plunge and makes the incision. She focuses on the area around the heart but, in a twist of fate, accidentally nicks a vessel. When Seong-woo is summoned to assist, his true nature is laid bare.

He's clearly out of his depth, incapable of performing the surgery, and pleads with Gwang-sik to take over for him. Gwang-sik, however, is unmoved, refusing with a scoff and a pointed reminder of Seong-woo's own callousness when the roles were reversed and Seong-woo was the one begging for help.

As Gu-ho exits the room, he is jolted by the revelation that the entire surgical procedure has been nothing but an elaborate ruse. None of what they had witnessed on the monitors or within the surgical chamber was genuine. The "patient" lying on the table was an artificial dummy, complete with artificial blood and a remarkably lifelike heart. Every detail had been meticulously crafted to lend an air of authenticity, successfully ensnaring Seong-woo and the rest in a web of deception.

Gwang-sik, it turns out, was also privy to this charade, while Gu-ho had been deliberately kept in the dark following his earlier remarks about Yi-rang's inability to go through with such a scheme. When Chairwoman Lee finally grasps the extent of her deception, realizing that her surgery was a complete sham and she had been thoroughly "scammed," she is consumed by shock and fury. The underlying motive, of course, was to expose Seong-woo as a fraud. With a cadre of specialists in the room having witnessed Seong-woo's confession, the situation looks dire for him.

Gwang-sik steps forward to hold a press conference, openly acknowledging his role in the orchestration. This revelation thoroughly tarnishes his reputation and, by extension, dashes any remaining hopes for the Chairwoman to perpetrate further scams. Conversely, it serves to cast a well-deserved spotlight on Gwang-sik.

The narrative then pivots to a series of flashbacks centered around Yi-rang's 10th birthday celebration. James is employed as security for Chairman Yun, who throws an extravagant party for his daughter at a theme park, attended by a host of other children. However, Yi-rang manages to slip away from the watchful eyes of the authorities by swapping dresses and escaping the compound. Tragically, she falls prey to a group of malevolent villains.

As hours elapse, an investigation is launched. James, along with others, forms a task force, diligently retracing Yi-rang's steps in a desperate bid to locate her and unravel her whereabouts.

Drawing inspiration from the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland, James entertains a theory: Could the key clue lie with the men in attendance, dressed as rabbits, who cunningly lured Yi-rang away through a series of games across the bustling fairground? As realization dawns upon James, he meticulously pieces together the events by examining photos and deciphering symbols scattered around, leading him to a white truck—isolated and hidden from the party's vibrant chaos—into which Yi-rang had been coaxed.

Yi-rang, tricked and enticed away from the festivities, found herself spirited to the castle in this clandestine manner. This sinister turn of events echoes the chess games she was earlier seen engrossed in during the show. Now, two days into her disappearance, Yi-rang is left alone, her heart heavy with concern. Meanwhile, James is relentlessly closing in on the truth. Whoever orchestrated her abduction had meticulously planned every detail; even the CCTV footage had been wiped clean. It seemed they had an accomplice within the police ranks, explaining their uncanny ability to elude authorities for so long.

Fast forward a day, and the scene shifts to a thrilling game of hide and seek around the castle's labyrinthine corridors. While they seek refuge, James—and subsequently, the police chief—make a daring move to bring the investigation into the public eye, aiming to flood the case with as much media attention as possible.

Feeling the pressure mounting, the kidnappers opt to abandon their prize. Yi-rang, however, is one step ahead. Sensing their intentions, she cunningly tricks the men into another round of hide and seek. This time, she concocts a mysterious mixture in a blue bucket, designed to trigger a chain reaction reminiscent of the explosive bottles seen earlier in the episode.

As Yi-rang hides, a colossal explosion rocks the compound, incapacitating the guards and propelling Yi-rang out the front door. Seizing the moment, she makes a dash for freedom, fleeing into the nearby cornfields where James, hot on her trail, finally catches up with her.

Yet, their reunion is short-lived as one of the masked men also appears in the cornfield. James, with unwavering resolve, tackles the assailant to the ground. Emerging unscathed, both James and Yi-rang share a moment of triumph, but it also sheds light on Yi-rang's unwavering determination.

The wall inside Yi-rang's house, adorned with a tapestry of pictures and intertwined with red string, stands as a silent testament to her abduction. Yi-rang is resolute in her quest to uncover the identity of her captors and the motives behind their heinous act.
