Dead Boy Detectives – Season 1 Episode 5 1

Meanwhile, two lost spirits of high-schoolers seek the aid of Edwin. They claim to have perished from alcohol poisoning, yet they maintain that they did not consume much, hinting at the possibility of foul play. They offer a reward, and the agency reluctantly accepts their case.

Niko, engrossed in writing a letter to her mother, happens to witness someone sending a letter to Jenny. Curious, she follows the mysterious figure, who turns out to be Maxine, the librarian. Niko stumbles upon a new romantic pairing and introduces them to each other. The quartet meets, and it is revealed that Niko is aware of their untimely demise. Apparently, they were well-liked and mourned for two months by all who knew them. However, Niko declares that she has her own mystery to solve and opts not to join the group.

The deceased teenagers, Brad and Hunter, guide them to their former party spot, sharing details of a haunted tree with eerie eyes that they encountered. Transforming into reporters, Charles and Edwin, assisted by Crystal, embark on a series of interviews. They speak to numerous individuals, but none seem to have a clear understanding of what transpired. Crystal stumbles upon a lead, a creepy young man who, after some persuasion, confesses that Brad's ex-girlfriend might be the killer, having taken her own life a month later. Determined, the group attempts to summon Shelby.

Shelby appears, furious over her fate. She reveals that while she was Brad's girlfriend, she was on the cusp of Olympic training. But Brad and Hunter spiked her drink, leading to her failed drug test. She lost her scholarships and her promising career. She vehemently denies killing them but laments her decision to take her own life. At this juncture, Maren contacts Crystal, ready to confess the truth.

When Crystal, Edwin, and Charles arrive at Maren's house, the boys make a shocking discovery. Maren is revealed as the killer, as evidenced by the tree outside her room, its trunks adorned with eerie "eyes." They inform Crystal, who is moments away from drinking poisoned alcohol. Maren confesses to her crime, explaining that Brad had sent intimate pictures to Hunter and threatened to share them with others. Desperate to protect herself, Maren sought to render them unconscious and delete the photos from Brad's phone, but accidentally killed them both. She enlisted help to make their deaths appear as alcohol poisoning. In the end, she turns herself in to the police, and as Brad and Hunter's unfinished business is resolved, they are condemned to hell for their misdeeds. Case closed.

Elsewhere, Niko persuades Jenny to enjoy a romantic evening with Maxine. Initially, all seems rosy and perfect until Jenny realizes that Maxine's obsession with her has escalated into stalking. Jenny demands her to leave, but Maxine becomes enraged and lunges at Jenny with a knife. However, in a twist of fate, she slips and falls, impaling herself with a nail through her head. Niko and Crystal arrive on the scene and quickly call the police. The episode concludes with Crystal's unwelcome reunion with David, her demonic tormentor. Elsewhere, Monty and Edwin share a heart-to-heart, leading to a misunderstanding as Monty mistakenly believes Edwin has romantic feelings for him. Monty plants a kiss, but is disheartened to learn that Edwin does not reciprocate his feelings.
