Death and Other Details – Season 1 Episode 2

Published: May 29 2024

Episode 2 of "Death and Other Details" kicks off with a vivid flashback, rewinding six months into the past. Keith Trubitsky, alias Danny, Rufus's trusted assistant, pounds on Rufus's door, his face beamed with excitement. He rushes inside, brandishing an invitation to the Colliers' cruise, his eyes sparkling as he reveals that Imogene will be attending.

With Collier Mills now open to investors, they finally have a chance to delve into the books and unearth a connection to Viktor Sams. Rufus, in the present, shares with Imogene his suspicion that Viktor Sams is merely a facade for an international syndicate, and her mother might have unwittingly crossed their path. However, Rufus's attempts to probe the Colliers' finances have been futile. Imogene, seemingly soothed by his explanation, steps out onto the deck, admitting to the others that her interrogation of Rufus was perhaps a bit too harsh.

Later, Rufus's attempts to reach Lawrence are thwarted by the latter's lawyer, but not without Rufus noticing bruises peeking through the lawyer's sleeve. Imogene, too, tries to seek out Lawrence, only to be stopped cold by Jules.

As Rufus continues to interrogate the guests and piece together Danny's movements, he learns that as Keith, Danny had antagonized Anna. Eleanor, the Chuns' daughter, reveals a shocking truth - the Colliers are actually bankrupt, a stark contrast to Anna's insistence that Collier Mills is thriving.

Three months ago, we witness a vulnerable Imogene, mired in grief over the anniversary of her mother's death. Anna, with her comforting presence and a plate of homely food, offers a ray of hope. On the boat, Imogene's encounter with Sunil is followed by Anna's entrance, and Imogene confesses to her that she's aiding Rufus in his investigation.

Rufus's questioning of Father Toby turns revealing. Toby had previously denied any contact with Keith, but Rufus uncovers the lie. Toby did indeed speak to Danny and even introduced him to Governor Alexandra. Danny's subsequent inquiry about acquiring funds from illegal sources hints at a deeper, more sinister conspiracy.

When the subject turns to Leila, Rufus discovers that she was involved in a car accident, but he firmly believes that it was no ordinary mishap. His suspicions fall squarely on Danny, whom he suspects to be involved. Parallel to this, Anna and Imogene engage in a meeting with the Collier couple, adding another layer of intrigue to the already complex scenario.

A fleeting flashback reveals that Rufus had previously tasked Imogene with gaining access to the Collier books, hinting at a deeper investigation underway. Rufus then uncovers the revelation that Danny, under the alias of Keith, had refused to invest in Tripp's ambitious venture, igniting a furious outburst from Tripp. This altercation was witnessed by several eyewitnesses, painting a vivid picture of the tense encounter.

Shortly after, the controversial incident with the waitress unfolds, further complicating the already tangled web of secrets. Rufus also learns that the bar cart delivered to Danny's room was actually ordered from Tripp's room, despite the mystifying fact that an American woman's voice placed the order.

Imogene reunites with Rufus in Sunil's office, confessing that deceiving Anna felt too effortless. Sunil enters the room with grave news, informing them that Interpol is on its way. He also mentions catching Trubitsky attempting a late-night infiltration of his office, only to feign drunkenness and skulk back to his room.

After Sunil's departure, Rufus shares a startling deduction with Imogene - Governor Alexandra and Tripp are engaged in a clandestine affair. CCTV footage further corroborates his hunch, capturing a surreptitious suitcase exchange between Llewellyn and Teddy, neither of whom has mentioned it. Rufus asserts that everyone involved has something to hide and, with his recent probing, they are bound to make mistakes.

It seems his theory is already taking shape as Alexandra abruptly terminates her relationship with Tripp. Meanwhile, Eleanor reveals to Anna that her grandmother desires to abandon the ship and terminate the deal, adding yet another layer of drama to the already tense situation.

The episode reaches its climax with the arrival of Agent Hilde Erikson from Interpol, determined to shake things up and bring clarity to the tangled web of Death and Other Details in its second episode.
