Death and Other Details – Season 1 Episode 3

Published: May 29 2024

Episode 3 of Death and Other Details opens two days prior to the fateful murder, coinciding with the Varuna's maiden voyage. Keith Trubitsky, disguised as Danny, approaches the lawyer, Llewellyn, and discovers that the suitcase he is assembling contains crucial documents pertaining to Collier's business.

Meanwhile, Agent Hilde Erikson conducts a thorough examination of Danny's lifeless body alongside Rufus. She deduces that the death was not premeditated but the result of an escalating altercation. As this investigation unfolds, Imogene arrives at Anna's room, catching Leila on her way out. Anna, fraught with anxiety as the deal hangs by a thread, converses with Mrs. Chun, attempting to persuade her to salvage the agreement. Mrs. Chun grants Anna a mere 24 hours to prove the sincerity of her family's intentions.

Elsewhere, Teddy holds a candid conversation with a group of staff members, most of whom are her kinsmen. She urges them to cooperate with the investigators, but they are perturbed by the perception that staff members and individuals of their ethnic background are always the prime suspects.

The tense atmosphere is further exacerbated by a heated argument between Jules and Sunil. Jules insists on docking the ship, while Sunil vehemently disagrees.

Death and Other Details – Season 1 Episode 3 1

At the crime scene, Rufus informs Hilde about the missing brown notebook belonging to Danny. Hilde's attention is drawn to the broken wristwatch, and she surmises that the same individual who wrecked it is also Danny's killer. Rufus relays this information to Imogene, who realizes they must uncover Danny's killer before Hilde's suspicions turn towards her.

Anna urgently dialed Teddy's number, her voice urgent as she requested the Collier files to be brought over immediately. Imogene, ever curious, silently trailed Teddy towards Sunil's securely locked office. Suddenly, Teddy's phone rang, pulling her away at the last moment. Seizing the opportunity, Imogene slipped into the room before the door shut behind her.

On the deck, Alexandra's conversation with Father Toby was filled with unease. She confessed to him that she had sent the bar cart to Danny's room, but it was solely due to the request of a wealthy campaign contributor. Toby knew who was behind the request, but he remained tight-lipped about whether it was Lawrence Collier or not.

Unfortunately for Imogene, her attempt to break into Sunil's safe was thwarted by Teddy and Sunil, who caught her red-handed. Imogene pleaded with Sunil, revealing that the killer must have known something crucial from those documents. She revealed the connection to her mother, successfully convincing Sunil to inspect the documents with her.

Anna, exasperated, summoned Teddy to a family meeting, realizing that he had once again fallen off the wagon. She repeatedly tried calling Llewellyn, but he remained unreachable. Meanwhile, Jules reluctantly allowed Hilde and Rufus into the security room. Hilde revealed that she knew Jules had never clocked in for his shift, and when he lied about being sick and bedridden the entire night, she appeared skeptical, vowing to interrogate all his staff.

Anna, unable to locate her wife, stumbled upon Eleanor. Eleanor confessed that she had never liked Leila for Anna. Anna recalled the pain of Eleanor leaving her when they were dating, despite her willingness to do anything for her. Now, however, it was too late for regrets.

Sunil reluctantly opened the safe for Imogene, and the papers revealed a startling truth: the Colliers were bankrupt. The company had seemingly encountered financial troubles two years prior. Rufus, having lunch with Hilde, received a drink from the bartender with a small paper attached. After their meal, the detectives parted ways, and Rufus followed the note's lead to meet with Imogene.

Together, they scrutinized the Collier documents with Sunil. Among the papers, they discovered a bill of lading for two tons of Captionem Blue. Rufus explained that it was a pigment banned due to its harmful effects on human health.

Anna, still furious about the deal with the Chuns, called Imogene. Imogene insisted that the case must be connected to the pigment, but Rufus scoffed, accusing her of being blinded by her desperation to connect everything to her mother's case.

Finally, Anna's search for her mother led her to a shocking discovery: Katherine was engaged in a passionate embrace with Father Toby. Toby was apprehensive about Anna's potential revelation, but Katherine assured him that she knew how to keep a secret.

As Imogene sat comfortably at the bar, her gaze suddenly fixed on Leila's arrival. With a knife clutched in her hand, Leila's casual stride carried a hidden menace. Imogene's mind was instantly transported back four months, to a conversation with Anna, who revealed her business dealings with Eleanor, her former lover. The conversation shifted, and Anna's whispered revelation about Leila's habit of sleeping with a knife beneath her bed sent a chill down Imogene's spine.

Now, in the present, Imogene stealthily trailed Leila, watching as she collected rope and duct tape. Her curiosity was piqued, and she followed her until she reached a dead end, with Leila mysteriously vanished.

Meanwhile, Anna met her father, both of them blaming each other for the company's dire situation. They discussed their last chance with the Chuns, their desperation palpable.

Elsewhere, Hilde and Rufus embarked on a search of the staff quarters. Jules' absence was noteworthy, especially considering he had been instructed to be present. Hilde began his investigation in Jules' room, and their discovery was startling. A photograph revealed Jules with a twin brother and an unknown woman, a secret compartment in the bed's mattress revealed nothing, but a mystery book belonging to Simon piqued their interest, even though Simon claimed Jules had merely borrowed it.

Back at the dead end, Imogene stood perplexed, wondering where Leila could have disappeared to. Her curiosity led her to a small hole in the wall, and with a flick of her earring, a hidden door swung open.

Concurrently, Anna arrived with suitcases filled with Collier documents, ready to meet the Chuns. Hilde and Rufus' investigation continued in Simon's room, where they stumbled upon a history book that stood out among his collection of mysteries. It belonged to Jules, and inside, they found a stash of passports and money. It dawned on them that Jules Toussaint was an alias, and the man had a long criminal history.

As Imogene crept through the hidden passageway, Rufus' words echoed in her mind - they had all underestimated Jules. Suddenly, a figure leapt out at her, startling her. It was Jules himself, and he warned her that she shouldn't have come this way, bringing a dramatic climax to Death and Other Details Episode 3.
