Drops of God – Season 1 Episode 2 1

In the present, Camille is driven to Philippe's vineyard, where she will undergo rigorous training. Philippe greets her at his residence, albeit uninviting and irked that she is interrupting his harvest season. He informs her that he will not be the one teaching her but his son, Thomas Chassangre, an esteemed oenology instructor.

Camille meets Thomas, who gives her a comprehensive tour of the vineyard, reminiscing about their shared childhood. Camille would frequently visit the vineyard during the holidays, and Thomas would be tasked with babysitting her. She is mortified by her atrocious behavior in her youth.

Thomas devises a plan to impart Camille with all the knowledge necessary to become an expert in wine and wine tasting within three weeks. However, Camille confesses that she cannot consume alcohol without fainting, which may prove to be an inconvenience.

They regroup and discuss the predicament with Philippe. He explains that Alexandre called him a month ago, requesting his assistance in enhancing Camille's knowledge. Although skeptical, Philippe decides to help her out of his promise to an old friend.

Meanwhile, in Tokyo, Issei endeavors to establish his new venture. He interviews for a highly coveted consultant oenologist position, recommended by Alexandre Leger himself. He is asked to participate in a blind wine tasting test. Issei excels in the test, accurately guessing the specifics of the wine solely from its aroma.

Issei's grandfather, a wealthy and influential man, discovers his grandson's involvement in the competition and enlists his daughter Honoka to halt this 'nonsense' before it tarnishes the family's reputation. Consequently, Issei is denied the consultant position, and his grandfather mandates him to withdraw from the competition and terminate his wine business. Issei acquiesces.

Back in France, Camille undergoes an MRI scan and is examined by a specialist. They seek to comprehend why Camille reacts adversely to food and alcohol. The doctor notes that Camille possesses exceptional taste skills but that her taste memories are entwined with aversion and fear.

The doctor's belief is that Camille's nosebleeds and fainting episodes are a result of trauma stemming from her youth, specifically linked to taste and causing these adverse reactions. When Camille eats or drinks, it triggers the traumatic memories, resulting in these bodily reactions.

Determined to reconnect with her past, Camille decides to go home and bid a final farewell to Philippe. His continued rudeness and dismissal only fuel her resolve. Camille even argues with Alexandre's old friend, who reveals that Alexandre adored Camille and was deeply hurt when he couldn't speak to his daughter anymore. Philippe mentions an awful email Camille sent Alexandre years ago, which is later revealed to be a fake written by Camille's mother, Marianne. Confronted by her mother, Camille orders her to leave, more determined than ever to reconnect with her father and succeed in the competition.

Thomas steps in to help Camille re-establish her excellent sense of smell. She is blindfolded and given 54 aromas to name. Initially struggling, she soon remembers her training with Alexandre, who taught her to categorize and store smells in her mind. She unlocks these memories and successfully names all 54 aromas in the present.

Thomas then trains Camille to evaluate wine by sight and smell alone. However, Camille struggles to identify the wine's aromas the first time, leading her to storm off. Philippe takes her camping to reacquaint her with nature, and her second attempt goes much more successfully. She even points out the smell of wine in Tokyo, recognizing fern as one of the aromas.

Two weeks later, Camille has made excellent progress but still falls short. She has flashbacks to the opening scene where she first drank wine and realizes that it wasn't Alexandre's fault for not allowing her to drink whole glasses of wine but from a pipette instead. She chose to drink the wine herself. Drinking from the glass of wine in the present, Camille is astounded by how good it tastes, taking the first step towards addressing and overcoming her trauma.
