Episode 6 of Season 2 of "Euphoria" kicks off with Rue returning to the familiarity of her home, clutching a Jolly Rancher candy and taking deep, labored breaths as withdrawal symptoms gnaw at her. Leslie stands by her side, offering temporary solace until a bed opens up at the rehab facility, which unfortunately won't happen for another week. This means Rue must navigate the treacherous waters of withdrawal within the confines of her own home.
Gia and Leslie alternate between offering their support, while Rue's mind drifts back to the regrettable decisions she's made. Her thoughts linger particularly on her harsh words directed at Ali, prompting her to reach out and offer a heartfelt apology. Her sincerity touches Ali, who not only forgives her but later arrives with a bag brimming with groceries. In a moment of intimate confidence, Ali encourages Gia to harness her anger constructively, believing it could serve as a cathartic outlet for her.
Meanwhile, the emotional landscape at Nate's residence is anything but stable. With Cal out of the picture and Nate having emerged victorious in his self-imposed power struggle, his anxieties now shift towards Maddy. The absence of her messages or calls leaves him worried about her intentions. According to Maddy, however, her plans are far from benign—they verge on the sinister.
On the other end of Maddy's phone call lies Kat, who embarks on what could generously be termed a date with Ethan. He's less than thrilled about canceling band practice but shows up nonetheless. Their encounter ends in a breakup, though Kat seems remarkably indifferent to the whole affair.
Amidst the ongoing drama between Maddy and Cassie, Lexie seeks comfort in Fezco's presence. Their bond deepens as Lexie grapples with the decision of whether to proceed with her play or not. Caught in the crossfire of the conflict, she ultimately calls out Cassie's melodramatic tirade. Clutching a corkscrew, Lexie laments her despair, expressing a harrowing sentiment: she no longer wishes to live.
Cassie's "woe-is-me" demeanor strikes a chord with her, reminding her of Rue, albeit her mother swiftly squashes that parallel. Rue's life has been a tumultuous journey, whereas Cassie's has been relatively smooth sailing—at least, according to her own perception.
Maddy ventures to her babysitting assignment, only to find herself engaged in a heart-to-heart and libations with Samantha, the homeowner. Samantha confesses to having done something similar to one of her friends, offering Maddy a glimpse into a different perspective. Yet, this revelation fails to alleviate her burgeoning depression.
Across town, at the Jacobs residence, Nate is similarly caught in a maelstrom of emotions. The epicenter of this storm is his mother, whose behavior is completely out of control. She reminisces about how Nate's demeanor shifted, darkening around the age of eight or nine.
For Nate, however, the realization dawns that he must take matters into his own hands. This resolve manifests in the form of stealing Cal's gun and retrieving the disk at all costs. After all, if Cal's pedophilic tendencies come to light, it would tarnish Nate's reputation and potentially devastate the integrity of their business.
Armed with the gun, Nate makes his way to Maddy's place, concealing himself in her room and awaiting her return. His mission is not to seek forgiveness but to procure the disk. Following an excruciatingly tense game of Russian roulette, Maddy caves in, admitting that the disk is in her purse. As it turns out, the entire ordeal was a bluff; the gun was unloaded from the outset. Nevertheless, Nate leaves Maddy in a shattered state on the bed, seizes the disk, and proceeds to Jules' house to hand it over to her.
With this saga laid to rest, Nate finally reconnects with Cassie and decides to fetch her. With her mother observing from the living room, Cassie gathers her belongings and opts to stay with Nate.
The episode draws to a close at Rue's abode. Rue expresses her desire to get clean, but Gia remains skeptical of her commitment. She has heard these pledges numerous times before, and they now fall on deaf ears. With slim chances of success, Ali implores them all that Rue must find hope within herself.
While Gia and Rue slumber, Leslie learns that Rue is forgoing rehab. In a tearful confession over the phone, Leslie urges them to reconsider, believing that Rue is on a suicidal path.
