Episode 2 of "Fear" unfolds with Jan persisting in his clandestine surveillance of the family, delving into their digital lives through cunning hacking. Meanwhile, Martyn and Rebecca find themselves at a lawyer's office, seeking legal recourse against Jan's meddling. Yet, the absence of tangible proof leaves the lawyer powerless to assist them, casting a shadow of helplessness over their quest for justice.
Upon returning to their home, Martyn, driven by a sense of innocence, decides to confront child protective services alone, confident that their transparency will swiftly dispel the false allegations. Rebecca, however, is dismayed when she learns of his solo mission.
The following day, an unexpected turn arises when Jan reaches out with a contrite apology. Though Rebecca and Martyn attempt to capture the conversation on record, their efforts fall flat. Determined for confrontation, Martyn heads to Jan's apartment but discovers it deserted—Jan, unknown to Martyn, is at the laundromat, conversing cryptically with his landlord about "something happening again."
Later, a letter arrives, bringing a breath of relief to Martyn and Rebecca: they have been cleared by child protective services. As days turn into weeks, Martyn grapples with attracting clients, while Rebecca embarks on a new professional journey. Returning home one evening, Martyn finds Jan's apartment eerily empty and assumes his tormentor has finally vacated the premises. Celebrations erupt between him and Rebecca—a double joy for her new job and Jan's apparent departure. However, the ominous truth slowly dawns: Jan's eyes remain fixated on them.
That same night, Rebecca invites her boss over for dinner, hoping to showcase Martyn's architectural prowess to a potential employer. Their plans are unexpectedly interrupted by the arrival of Martyn's brother, narrowing the window for career discussions. It becomes increasingly clear—Jan has never truly vanished from their lives.
The following day, as Martyn immerses himself in a seminar, Rebecca's children engage in lively play at home, accompanied by their friends. Their joyous shouts and screams echo through the neighborhood, unknowingly drawing unwanted attention. Jan, reacting impulsively, bursts forth from his dwelling and, in a public spectacle, levels accusations of sexual abuse against Rebecca and Martyn, claiming they have victimized their own flesh and blood.
The authorities are promptly notified, and Rebecca is plunged into a state of terror. Meanwhile, Martyn remains elusive, having drowned his sorrows in alcohol with another woman, who, in a moment of intimacy, offers him her room number. When Rebecca finally manages to reach him, he stumbles back home, inebriated and belligerent. Their heated altercation escalates, prompting Martyn, in a fit of frustration, to shout defiantly towards Jan's apartment. This reckless outburst prompts Jan to file a police complaint against him.
On the subsequent day, Rebecca, with her children in tow, decides to vacate their troubled abode. Through a telephone conversation, we gather that she has intercepted a voice message intended for Martyn, where the woman invites him to her room, revealing a hint of their recent liaison. In an attempt to navigate this turmoil, Martyn seeks counsel from his lawyer once more, but to no avail. Desperate, he approaches Jan's landlord, pleading for eviction or the sale of the apartment, yet the landlord stands firm, refusing his plea.
The episode culminates with Martyn placing a call to his mother, seeking solace perhaps, while Rebecca and her children opt to seek refuge at a friend's house, leaving behind the chaos and heartache that once was their home.
