The episode kicks off with Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) enthusiastically proposing a holiday get-together with his family, including Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment) and CeeCee, marking the first such occasion since his father's passing. Mandy, ever accommodating, readily agrees but delegates the task of breaking the news to Audrey McAllister (Rachel Bay Jones) to Georgie. To his astonishment, Audrey welcomes the idea with as much openness as Mandy. However, she is not amused by his presumption otherwise and is on the verge of giving him a stern talking-to when Jim McAllister (Will Sasso) hastily spirits him away to the garage.
Georgie's surprise deepens when he discovers that Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry) has opted out of hosting the annual dinner. To compound his disappointment, she expresses no interest in joining the McAllisters' festivities. Despite Missy Cooper (Ragan Revord) already having plans to spend the holiday with a friend, both Georgie and Mandy make concerted efforts to persuade her to change her mind and join them.
When a surprise visit to the garage fails to lift Georgie's spirits, Mandy turns to Meemaw (Annie Potts) and Dale (Craig T. Nelson) for help. Though Dale is eagerly anticipating a planned camping trip, Meemaw doesn't hesitate to alter their arrangements. With Meemaw and Dale's confirmed attendance, Mandy redoubles her efforts to secure Missy's participation. It takes a blend of persuasion and a visit to the tattoo parlor, but Mandy eventually wins Missy over. Mary, however, remains unconvinced and almost becomes belligerent when Mandy persists with the invitation.
Mandy eventually shares the news about their guests, but she doesn't object to the plan. Georgie enters the conversation midway and is initially delighted by the positive development until he learns that his mother won't be joining them. Moreover, he's intriguingly curious about what swayed Missy's decision. Mandy boasts of her negotiating skills, but Georgie clearly doubts her story, prompting him to later confront Missy with the same question. However, she remains tight-lipped, just as Mandy had done.
As the evening of the dinner approaches, Audrey finds herself increasingly exasperated by Jim's incessant indulgence in alcohol, while Connor McAllister (played by Dougie Baldwin) further complicates the ambiance with a cringe-worthy Thanksgiving accordion melody. Yet, these moments pale in comparison to the sheer discomfort that arises when Audrey's patience with Jim's drinking finally snaps. Prior to this climax, Mary also makes an unexpected appearance, adding another layer of complexity to the evening.
The escalating dispute eventually culminates in a dramatic scene, where Mary, Missy, and Georgie find themselves compelled to confront their emotions at George Senior's gravesite. It is at this poignant location that the episode draws to a close, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.
