Episode 3 of "Hound's Hill" kicks off with a negotiation that quickly spins out of control, featuring a character named Tobek. A car is torched in the chaos, setting the stage for Justyna to seek out her editor personally, driven by a desire to pen an exposé on the happenings in Zybork. However, he rebuffs her, going so far as to issue a veiled threat of legal action if she persists in her pursuit. There's an underlying tension between them, hinting at a shared history. As she exits his office, Justyna doubles down on her investigation, resolving to launch a social media campaign to amplify the truth.
In the thick of her investigation, Justyna discovers a chilling revelation: the meat found in Bernat's stomach was human tissue. She taps into her network of contacts in Warsaw to delve deeper into this grim discovery.
Elsewhere, Mikolaj's world is turned upside down when he stumbles upon Justyna's exchanges with her editor. Meanwhile, Tomek is absent from the scene, arriving at the station with Agata, incensed about the arson attack. He suspects Kalt's involvement, but the officers remain steadfastly unmoved.
Back at home, Kaska confronts Mikolaj about his book, her hostility fuelled in part by the portrayal of Gizmo as a murderer and animal killer within its pages.
Amidst this turmoil, we learn that the plans for the luxury hotel have hit a minor snag due to the ongoing investigations. The Mayor is eager to expedite matters and wrap up the investigation swiftly. Kalt, on the other hand, believes they should proceed as normal to maintain the illusion, while also seeking the Father's blessing for the land.
Justyna finally arrives back home, clutching the evidence she has diligently unearthed and presents it to Agata. Mikolaj, who is also present, wears a stormy expression but refrains from confronting Justyna about the messages, at least momentarily. Instead, their attention shifts to Bernat's phone, which has been traced to the lake. Tomek insists on bringing this matter to the police's attention, recognizing that ignoring it further is no longer feasible, and urges them to take decisive action.
Justyna accompanies the family to the police station, her journalistic background coming into play as she points out how the evidence they have gathered technically lacks validity due to the police's earlier disregard and failure to properly examine it. However, the consensus among them is that Marek Bernat was with his father, and given his disappearance too, kidnapping seems to be a plausible scenario. After submitting the phone and other bits of evidence, Dobocinski calls the Mayor and informs him of a "present" that has been delivered.
The police arrive to confront Tobek and subsequently arrest Gawil, Tobek's son, for the kidnappings and murder. Our gangster acquaintance threatens severe repercussions for this action.
Meanwhile, Mikolaj visits Kaska once more, quizzing her about the postcards. Plagued by the memory of her deceased siblings, she feels the weight of the world pressing down on her shoulders. It seems she did not send the postcards but shares an unwavering determination for justice to be served.
Mikolaj begins to harbor doubts about whether Gizmo was truly responsible for Daria's demise. The lead prosecutor at the time merely attributes it all to the evidence at the scene. However, Mikolaj was brutally beaten by the police during that period, meaning any confession extracted from him was made under duress and cannot be trusted. Nonetheless, the corrupt police officers of that era believed they had delivered justice.
When the topic of justice arises, Tomek dramatically emerges during the Mayor's grandiloquent oration on hotel construction, accompanied by a throng of protesters from the colony. At the police station, Gawil is being grilled by officers, but their interrogation is abruptly halted by the commotion unfolding in the town square. Lo and behold, Tomek, accompanied by his thugs, also makes an appearance, desperation etched on his face as he seeks to reclaim his son. With Tomek and his gang menacing Kalt, Dobocinski brokers a deal with him to secure his release. Just as Tomek collapses, prompting a scramble for medical assistance, Gawil drops a bombshell: he claims to have spotted three figures at around 2-3 am, possibly including Bernat. While Bernat may not be the murderer, Gawil's credibility is questionable, given his sinister smirk as the episode draws to a close.
