In the contemporary narrative, Tomek is hastily conveyed to the hospital, yet his precarious condition receives no mercy from Gawil's revelations. Consequently, the police secure a warrant to ransack Tomek's abode, leaving it in a state of disarray. Justyna, dismayed, scrutinizes the warrant for authenticity. Worse still, the authorities uncover a fishing hook that aligns perfectly with Gawil's account. Despite Tomek's fragile state following a heart attack, he is apprehended and whisked away from the hospital.

Tomek remains tight-lipped without his legal representative, fostering an atmosphere of animosity at the precinct, especially towards Dobocinski. Matters escalate when Tomek learns of his imminent transfer to Wroclaw within an hour. This maneuver is a strategic play by the Mayor and Kalt, aiming to neutralize Tomek's interference in their hotel development schemes with a single stroke.

Justyna, astute to the underlying machinations, realizes Tomek is being framed for the murders. She knows he needs an alibi, but procuring her lawyer's assistance won't come cheaply. To compound the situation, the Bishop has inexplicably vanished, adding another layer of mystery to the tumultuous events.

Upon returning home, Mikolaj receives a chilling tape from one of the investigating officers. It contains footage of Dobocinski coercion Gizmo into a forced confession. Mikolaj is plunged into self-blame as he recalls the fateful night of Daria's demise, where they all indulged in drugs together, with Gizmo unfortunately succumbing to peer pressure and partaking as well. Macius and Jarecki played the roles of instigators, coaxing the young boy to consume alcohol and take LSD despite his medication. Under their toxic influence, it seems Gizmo turned on his own sister, leading to Daria's tragic death. When she confronted him, he snapped and, burdened by 20 years of guilt, ultimately took his own life. But is this the true and unvarnished tale? Or does it harbor deeper, untold secrets?

Mikolaj digs deeper, presenting Justyna with incriminating text messages and grilling her about her recent activities. The revelation unravels a far more tangled scenario than anyone anticipated. Mikolaj was in a tumultuous phase, spiraling into drug abuse and nocturnal escapades. Justyna, feeling isolated, sought comfort in her editor's arms. She insists that the affair is a closed chapter, and the recent messages were mere harassment from her former lover. While her infidelity remains inexcusable, the truth at least brings clarity.

Justyna strives to mend fences with the family, volunteering to foot the lawyer's bill herself. Determined to uncover the truth, she visits the mayor for an interview, probing into her connections with Tobek and the undercurrents roiling the town. Justyna senses Tomek is being scapegoated, and she is relentlessly searching for the right angle to expose the real culprits.

However, her quest is further complicated by the ongoing investigation into the "Winnie the Pooh" case, a pedophile ring she has meticulously uncovered. Unfortunately, one of her colleagues, Adam Kowalski, published a drastically different article on the subject, supposedly to "protect her." The misstep leaves Justyna incensed and disappointed.

Mikolaj visits Tomek in prison, baring the truth about the acid night. Tomek, in turn, challenges Mikolaj's narrow perspective, urging him to scrutinize the people surrounding him. Kaska, too, is deeply wounded by the plights of her siblings, struggling to cope with the aftermath.

This is far from what Mikolaj desires to hear, as he grapples with deep-seated issues concerning his father. In a fit of rage, he confronts Tomek, accusing him of neglect, a sentiment rooted in their past decision to sever ties. In his bitter heart, he resolves to disown his son, refusing even to acknowledge his existence—a harsh sentiment from a man as inflexible and bullheaded as he is.

Justyna then turns to Grazyna, who reveals that Marek and Filip were merely motivated by money. Their apparent concern for the colony was merely a facade, as their true motive was financial gain. It's plausible that Marek had some sort of "amicable" connection with Tobek and the Romani.

When Justyna confronts Tobek and Gawil, they disclose that a coup was planned. Filip, who had bonded with the group, even partied with them occasionally. He supposedly agreed to persuade his father to enter a partnership and sell the lease. However, it was all a clever deception. Despite the fact that nobody confiscated his phone after a party that night, it seems clear that Gawil and Tobek were not involved in whatever transpired. This leaves Macius as the most likely culprit.

As Justyna inches closer to uncovering the truth, Mikolaj storms into a club, drunk and making a scene, calling out everyone for what happened to Gizmo. Kaska warns him to leave, lest he gets hurt, but he pays her no heed.

Justyna soon discovers that Macius is at Kalt's mansion, where they have apparently reached some sort of agreement. She heads there to confront him and finds that Macius is colluding with Kalt and Dobocinski. She theorizes that they took the father and son into the woods, torturing them by forcing them to feed on each other's flesh to relinquish the land deed.

Dobocinski chillingly threatens Justyna, warning her that Tomek will be framed for the crime. Unless she and Mikolaj flee the town, they will be charged as accomplices. However, Justyna receives a call from work, informing her that they've recognized the potential significance of the case and want her to lead the investigation.

The situation takes a grim turn when Mikolaj, seeking solace in drugs, plunges into a drug-induced haze. But amidst his delirium, a mysterious man approaches him, claiming to know the truth and promising to reveal it to him.
