Episode 5 of Hound's Hill kicks off with a delve into the past, where we witness Gizmo being subjected to a harrowing act of acid administration. Transitioning into Gizmo's skewed perspective, enhanced by whimsical cartoon animations, we accompany him on a journey to the lake alongside his sister. Along the way, a cunning fox joins their ranks, leading to an unexpected solo quest for Gizmo after losing sight of Daria somewhere in the wilderness.
So, what fate awaited Daria? It transpires that Marek, Macius, and Jarecki were lurking in the woods, where they viciously attacked her and abandoned her, leaving her to the mercy of fate. Gizmo, sensing the presence of demons instead of his attackers, arrived on the scene to rescue her but was only met with the heart-wrenching sight of Daria's lifeless body, over which he wailed in despair.
Turning our focus to the evidence, Justyna dives into her article, striving to articulate her thoughts with precision. The weight of Mikolaj's drug-induced silence adds to her distractions, leaving her disgruntled and seeking solace in Grzes' company. Their emotional closeness peaks to the brink of a kiss, but Justyna, recognizing the moral ground she stands on, halts the moment.
Elsewhere, Tomek's confidence in his impending release shines as he confers with his lawyer, Krymski, about the delaying tactics surrounding Filip Bernat's murder case. He insists that the evidence has been fabricated and expresses faith in Justyna's ability to unearth the truth, particularly with the audio evidence that implicates the police during her demonstration at Kalt's mansion.
However, when Justyna presents the evidence to Tomek, his certainty wavers. The prosecutor remains intractable, demanding audio forensics before acknowledging the evidence's validity. Furthermore, there's a looming threat that the evidence might be disregarded due to Dobocinski's sobriety issues.
Justyna diligently tracks down the Attorney General and broaches the sensitive subject of the Winnie the Pooh case, armed with a substantial cache of incriminating evidence against him and his cronies. Recognizing the leverage she holds, she proposes a deal: he must use his influence to dismiss all charges against Tomek, in exchange for her handing over her entire cache of damaging information.
Her editor, upon discovering Justyna's bold maneuver, is incensed, feeling that she has squandered years of her hard-earned career progress. Yet, Justyna remains steadfast in her conviction to do what is morally right.
With this matter settled, Justyna is eager to locate Mikolaj and embarks on a relentless search across various locations. Kaska, referencing the recent commotion, openly expresses her desire to emulate Justyna's bravery and resolve. Meanwhile, Justyna perceives a pattern linking all the ongoing events.
Returning home, she broaches a startling possibility with her family: someone might be seeking revenge by targeting those responsible for administering acid to Gizmo.
In the midst of her pursuit, Justyna receives a message from Mikolaj, claiming he is back in Warsaw. Tomek, driven by determination, urges Justyna to bring Mikolaj back. However, on her way, Justyna notices two suspicious individuals who oddly possess Mikolaj's phone, explaining his silence.
She tails their car to Macius' residence, where they forcibly abduct Mikolaj and stash him in the trunk. Unfortunately, she is spotted by the same ominous man who made a dramatic appearance at the end of episode 4.
The narrative then shifts to follow Mikolaj, who awakens to find Father Bernat sitting beside him. The priest recounts the harrowing tale witnessed at the episode's outset: men raping Daria while Sebastian, helpless outside, screams and begs for mercy. Daria is then fatally struck in the head, and the perpetrators frame Gizmo for the crime.
Who is the perpetrator of this grim deed? The men unveiled their darkest secrets to Father Bernat, who, in confidentiality, relayed every detail to Tomek. It transpires that Tomek and Grzes have been secretly conspiring to avenge Daria's suffering and demise. Mikolaj, confined in secrecy to prevent his loose lips, finds himself detained alongside Justyna, similarly bound. Tomek's first heart attack uncovered this sinister plot, fueling his steadfast resolve to secure justice. Driven by an insatiable thirst for his father's approval, Mikolaj seized his dad's firearm and dispatched Macius.
In unison, the conspirators deemed Justyna's release futile, reasoning that no one would credit her tale. They subsequently set the house on Hound's Hill ablaze, their sanctuary now a burning inferno.
Skipping ahead three months, Tomek stands as a town hero, hailed for protecting the community from nefarious investors. Instead of a hotel, they opted for a senior care facility, facilitated by Kalt, though secretly intended to provide jobs for colony residents.
Amidst this new chapter, Kaska's role as the postcard sender is revealed. With Daria's rapists all deceased, she consigns her vengeance to the flames by burning the next postcard. Meanwhile, Elka Walinowska emerges as the town's forthcoming mayor. Mikolaj has returned home, intent on staying and nurturing his budding relationship with Kaska.
How does the narrative of Hound's Hill conclude? Amidst the tumult, Dobocinski escapes unscathed, deemed merely a patriotic soul striving for the welfare of his town. Meanwhile, Kalt's fate is tethered to obedience, enforced by Mikolaj, who now serves his father as a willing subordinate and yearns for his approval. Any deviation from this path promises Kalt's undoing.
Justyna, on the other hand, emerges empty-handed from her struggles. Despite earning a commendation, she finds herself ensnared once again in the embrace of her editor, whom she decides to embrace romantically. Nevertheless, the closing tableau of the series shifts our gaze to a stark bathroom setting, revealing Mikolaj relapsing into his drug-fueled escapades, his condition more degraded than ever.
