House of David – Season 2 Episode 5 1

The next day, Jonathan pays a visit to the campsite, only to find David lost in thought, penning a poem. He commends David for his year-long string of triumphs, and the two friends catch up on old times. As they speak, the weight of their losses looms over them—David yearning for Mychal's presence, Jonathan missing Sara's smile. David urges him to seek joy amidst the sorrow, but their tranquil moment is shattered by a sudden ambush from the Philistine army.

David and Jonathan spring into action, rushing to aid their comrades. David takes charge with alacrity, only to find Eliab disregarding his orders. As they engage in battle, the Israelite soldiers realize their swords are inadequate, and they swiftly overpower their foes, confiscating their weapons. Once again, they stumble upon a vast amount of charcoal being carried by the Philistine army. After the skirmish, David reprimands Eliab for disobedience, but the latter remains unrepentant.

Back in Gibeah, Mychal has established a small school for the Israelite children, and David's return is greeted with joyous chants. The people hail him as a hero, claiming he has slain thousands more than Saul. Ahinoam tries to reason with Saul about David's growing popularity, but he remains unpersuaded by her doubts.

For the past year, Saul and Ahinoam have barely exchanged a word, their once-warm relationship now frayed by Saul's embrace of Kezia as a concubine and Ahinoam's relocation to the other side of the palace.

Mirab is the first to welcome David with open arms, but his heart yearns for Mychal's company more. Meanwhile, Jonathan shows Abner the swords plundered from the Philistines and inquires about Goliath's blade. Abner sets off to Nob to consult with the priests and returns with the man's signature on the sword. He updates Saul on his findings, revealing that the swordsmith who forged Goliath's sword hails from Endor and is known as "the god of swords."

Abner suggests sending a team to Endor to hire the man for Israel's own use. Saul hesitates, fearing Abner's history with the place might prove detrimental. But Abner insists that he knows Endor best and asks for a few men to accompany him on the journey.

In the interim, David confides in Jonathan the weight of his anointment, fearing that his power might overwhelm him. He later shares the poems he has been composing with Mychal, only to be pushed away by her insistence that she cannot stand between him and Mirab. Mirab, sensing David's hesitation, insists that they set a wedding date, leaving David feeling cornered but ultimately giving in to her demands.

The next day, Abner, David, Jonathan, and a select few soldiers set out for Endor, their journey cloaked in mystery as only Abner knew they were dressed as merchants on their way to the town. On their journey, one of David's brothers inquired about Eliab's state of mind, which the latter denied, despite his internal turmoil over David's rise to fame.

Back in Gibeah, Mychal is heartbroken upon Mirab announcing the wedding date. She later confides in Joab her undying love for David, making him promise to always protect him. Meanwhile, Ahinoam gifts Mirab a ring and advises her to harden her heart moving forward.

In the kitchen, Doeg threatens Kezia, but she uses her new position as Saul's concubine to break free from his influence. In Endor, the small army led by Abner struggles to fit in and find the god of swords, who eventually agrees to join them on the promise of finding his daughter, who was sold into slavery to offset his debts.

Before they can leave, Abner's mother has her people kidnap the group. She, the head witch of Endor, speaks to the dead and reveals the secrets the men are keeping in their hearts—Eliab's secret agony over the innocent neighbours he killed and Jonathan's loss of the empire and his death. However, when she turns her gaze to David, she hesitates, sensing God's presence in him. She harshly curses Abner for leaving the community and frees the men. But she prophesies the fall of Saul's house and Abner's death, realizing that once again David had saved them.

In the aftermath of the harrowing kidnapping incident, Abner issues a stern warning to the soldiers, urging them to keep the secrets of his mother's words under lock and key. He dismisses everything she said as mere manipulation and falsehoods. Meanwhile, Eliab's brother serves as a stark reminder to Eliab, urging him to cease defying David's commands. He reminds Eliab that it was God himself who chose David for a reason.

On the flip side, David imparts a profound lesson to Jonathan, urging him to seek happiness and peace before his time comes. Jonathan heeds this advice and makes his way to Sara, who greets him with a passionate embrace.

In the land of the Philistines, Daganor executes one of the chief kings who stubbornly refused to align with them. They force the young prince to join their ranks by brutally murdering his father in his presence. Daganor and Achish plot to create more weapons and launch an assault on the Israelites.

Returning to Gibeah, David takes his own advice and wages a battle for his own happiness. He seeks an audience with Saul, boldly revealing his refusal to marry Mirab. He humbly begs Saul to do what is necessary, for he is disobeying his orders.
