The new season of *Invasion* kicks off with a televised address by Benya Mabote, president of the World Defense Coalition (WDC)—often dubbed the "poor man’s UN." The WDC is locked in a desperate struggle against the enigmatic alien vessel that descended upon Earth at the close of the previous season. Four months have elapsed since then, leaving vast swathes of territory across nations uninhabitable. Nearly 30% of Earth’s atmosphere is now tainted by alien spores, as the invaders embark on a terraforming campaign to render the planet hostile to human life.
In his broadcast, Benya issues a fervent call for unity, urging humanity to set aside divisions and confront their common foe as one. Yet, his plea falls on deaf ears, as old rivalries and self-interests fracture the coalition. A new faction, *The Movement*, has risen, vowing to combat the aliens by any means necessary. However, their militant tactics clash with the WDC’s efforts, sparking frequent skirmishes as the military attempts to quell their insurgency.
The first glimpse of the alien onslaught comes from Osaka, Japan, where chaos reigns. Spider-like creatures—agile, relentless, and lethal—swarm the city, leaving destruction in their wake. Among the panic, Mitsuki emerges as a beacon of resilience, herding survivors to safety. In a daring act of defiance, she charges toward the aliens, hurling Molotov cocktails to incinerate clusters of the creatures. Her rampage is abruptly halted when two men in a helicopter descend, claiming to be WDC operatives. They implore her to aid them in investigating the first alien ship, which was downed last season.
Meanwhile, in British Columbia, the Malik family is on the run. Sarah distracts a gas station attendant while Luke pilfers supplies and Aneesha siphons fuel. They narrowly escape as the owner unleashes a shotgun blast in their wake. Tensions flare between Aneesha and Luke, with her fury erupting over his reckless delay. Their bickering becomes a recurring motif as the episode unfolds.
A heated debate erupts between Aneesha and Luke over their next move. Luke, embodying teenage rebelliousness, insists on being heard, until Sarah’s sobs pierce the air. Reluctantly, he concedes. The family packs their meager belongings and flees deeper into the wilderness.
Mitsuki is whisked away to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, where the downed alien vessel lies dormant—or so it seems. Nikhil Kapur, the charismatic yet authoritarian head of Dharmax, a research conglomerate, oversees the operation. Driven by a thirst for knowledge, he seeks to unravel the aliens’ true intentions, convinced the ship is far from inert. Mitsuki undergoes a baseline psychological evaluation—reminiscent of the procedure administered to K in *Blade Runner 2049*—to gauge her resilience to potential trauma.
Tensions spike when cognitive scientist Maya Castillo flags Mitsuki’s failure on the baseline test, arguing she should not be sent into the ship. Ignoring Maya’s warnings, Nikhil orders her to accompany Mitsuki, enlisting Tomas, a lead chemist and Maya’s ally, to the team. Mitsuki’s mission: decipher how the ship transmits data, given its continued functionality. Castillo reveals the vessel’s interior is "as vast as Canada," powered by an enigmatic energy source. The team is stymied by an impenetrable electromagnetic barrier, thwarting their progress deeper into the ship.
The stage is set for a gripping clash of wits, wills, and survival as humanity grapples with an enemy beyond comprehension.
Every individual who has dared to venture into that enigmatic realm has emerged with some form of neurological trauma. Yet, undeterred, Mitsuki strides in boldly. To the utter astonishment of all, the alien field resonates with Mitsuki as she harmonizes a frequency to establish communication. Despite spending a full 15 minutes ensnared within the room, Nikhil implores Maya to resist the urge to extract Mitsuki. With bated breath, they watch as Mitsuki experiments, emitting a medley of frequencies to gauge the alien force's response. She plays David Bowie’s "Space Oddity," and like a charm, it coaxes the force into an interactive dance with her.
En route, they pause to replenish their supplies near a weary military detachment. Against Aneesha’s stern warnings, Luke disembarks and promptly falls into the clutches of the soldiers. Aneesha valiantly attempts to extricate him from the predicament, but the soldiers, suspicious, decide to inspect her, suspecting affiliation with the Movement. One of them uncovers a firearm on Aneesha's person, leading to her immediate arrest. Tensions escalate when the alien artifact concealed in the back of their car is discovered. Recognizing Aneesha from the WDC's wanted list, the military apprehends her along with the children.
They find themselves herded into a vehicle alongside Clark, who is revealed to be the enigmatic leader of the Movement. Their military convoy is ambushed, and the trio, along with Clark, are liberated from captivity. Clark escorts them to the Movement’s secure haven, promising to transport them to a refugee camp come morning. As they settle in, Luke begins to discern a faint humming emanating from the alien piece in Aneesha’s grasp, which now seems to be undergoing a metamorphosis.
The episode culminates in a French medical facility, where doctors keep vigil over the comatose form of Caspar. One physician observes, with a mix of curiosity and concern, that the tremors coursing through Caspar’s body exhibit a rhythmic pattern, ever-changing and evolving. "Something has shifted," he murmurs, hinting at an enigmatic transformation underway.
