The tense meeting between Tommy and Danny in the opening episode of Landman season 2 kicks off with a major change in the control clause of their contract. With Cami now taking over from Monty, Tommy remains convinced that the real control hasn't shifted—at least not in his mind. He's ready to bring in the lawyers to keep things as they are, claiming that Monty's success is largely due to his 17 wells in workovers and that he's cleared to drill six new ones on the next field. The alternative to a fat cheque for Danny is to close everything down and send the workers home.

Tommy drives a hard bargain, urging Danny to "relax and trust him," suggesting that he'll make more money if they're on the same page. For the time being, it seems to work.
Next, Bob corners Tommy, demanding answers about the gas fields in Kilgore. Despite the fields being good, Tommy is reluctant to head out there and begin drilling himself. Instead, he sells off the leases, a move that leaves Bob stumped about how to proceed without Monty's gambling instincts.
Cami now finds herself in the position of trying to keep everything together. Her motivation to keep the company from going bankrupt is clear, but she'll need a lot more than that if she's going to keep this ship from sinking.
Cami's luncheon goes well for the most part, but she speaks from the heart when she takes to the stage. She ignores her prepared speech after a catty encounter with a couple of girls in the bathroom, mercilessly taking them down and promising the room that she's meaner than all of them. Bob is the first one to clap.
Cooper preps for a big drive out and kisses goodbye to Ariana while she's still in bed. He oversees the drilling and has good news for her when he returns, but not before waking her up with his loud entrance. Still, he scoops her up and takes her out to the drill, eager to share his successes with her.
The oil ratio they've achieved seems to have surpassed 20%, and it's escalating rapidly. This is fantastic news, as it translates to a yearly income of roughly $10 million. Meanwhile, Ainsley embarks on her college entrance interview, but things don't go as smoothly as expected. Her argument based on Hybrid vigour falls flat, and her interviewer, Greta Stoham, can't hide her disdain for her elitist comments. Despite the fact that Ainsley meets the minimum requirements, Greta reluctantly accepts her due to the situation. As a final insult, Greta is repulsed when Ainsley shuffles over and hugs her.
Back to the main drama, despite winning over the lunch crowd, Tommy reminds Cami that this is just the beginning. Monty has made many enemies and burned many bridges, and now that he's gone, all these businesspeople are going to be circling Cami like a shark smelling blood. Tommy wants her to defer everything to him for now so he can make the best decisions for the company. Before they part ways, he congratulates her on her first day's work.
Cooper calls Tommy to share the good news about the drill, but he's encouraged to come over for dinner instead, much to his annoyance. Ainsley and Angela overshadow the evening, and the dinner conversation takes a turn for the worse. Angela announces a lavish new dish for dinner and decides they should buy a huge, expensive house in Fort Worth.
When Tommy questions Angela about this and challenges her decision-making, she loses her temper and destroys the dinner table, smashing plates and lashing out at him. Just when everything seems ready to explode, Tommy compliments Angela's chest, and it does the trick to calm her down. With the room cleared and no shouting, they have a calm conversation about working together, with Tommy eventually admitting his wrongdoing. As they kiss, Tommy's phone rings with news that his mother has passed away.
