Law and the City – K-drama Episode 5 1

The following day, Ju-hyeong seeks out Hee-ji for a heart-to-heart. Before he can utter a word, Hee-ji confesses she spotted Su-jeong awaiting him downstairs and preemptively informed her that Ju-hyeong had already departed. Acknowledging she stepped over the boundary, Hee-ji explains her actions stemmed from a desire to shield him from potential hurt. This revelation catches Ju-hyeong off guard, yet he concedes that taking on the case was a misstep. Assuring her he is now at peace, he hands her a bag filled with 'emergency snacks' for her office, a gesture meant to lighten the mood.

Elsewhere, Chang-won chances upon Sang-gi at an ATM, noticing a substantial sum in his friend's bank account. This discovery prompts Chang-won to repeatedly bring up the topic during their breakfast gatherings, much to Sang-gi's discomfort.

Concurrently, Mun-jeong visits her physician, requesting a pregnancy-safe medication, though she grapples with mixed emotions regarding her pregnancy.

Chang-won's encounters with Jang Su-gil, the brash son of an imprisoned tycoon, continue to be trying. Su-gil's rudeness doesn't deter Chang-won from inquiring about the duration of these mandatory visits to his boss, Seong Yu-deok. Yu-deok dismisses his qualms, highlighting the lucrative nature of the task and instructing him to persist until the trial concludes.

Hee-ji's day takes an unexpected turn when she welcomes Moon Dong-geun as a new client. Dong-geun finds himself entangled in a theft accusation after an evening of revelry led him to sit at a convenience store counter, atop a shopping bag left behind by a previous patron, containing a watch.

Elsewhere, a teacher by the name of Hwang Min-gu crosses paths with Ju-hyeong amidst a storm of allegations. Accused of child abuse, Hwang steadfastly maintains his innocence, asserting that he never laid a hand on his students. It all began when the students, defying school hours, ventured into the gym. Hwang reprimanded them, little knowing that this encounter would escalate into a lawsuit claiming physical assault.

Ju-hyeong, ever the resourceful one, taps into Mun-jeong's 'Newstagram' account—bypassing the hassle of creating his own due to the lengthy terms and conditions. Together, they delve into the digital footprints of both Hwang Min-gu and the accused students. Their search leads them to a revealing post by Kim Sang-jun, one of the students. The accompanying caption and picture of the complaint stand as undeniable proof of a false narrative woven around the alleged abuse.

Armed with this newfound evidence, Ju-hyeong marches to the middle school, where he discovers the very same group of boys engaging in their usual gym antics. He confronts them with the Newstagram post, painting a vivid picture of the consequences awaiting them for fabricating such grave accusations.

Meanwhile, at the police station, Hee-ji and Moon Dong-geun are shown CCTV footage that unravels a portion of the mystery. The victim is seen placing the bag containing the watch on a table outside a store. Subsequently, Dong-geun takes his seat at that very table, savoring his beer before departing. The victim returns to find the table barren. However, the camera's limited view conveniently obscures the crucial detail—the shopping bag with the watch, still present on the uncaptured section of the table.

Hee-ji and Dong-geun's quest for the truth leads them to the convenience store, where fortune, or perhaps fate, places them near a Chinese restaurant. Inside, Hee-ji spots a CCTV camera offering a clearer perspective. But hope dims as they learn that the restaurant's owner, burdened by a criminal past, prefers to steer clear of any entanglements.

Back in the office, Ju-hyeong summons the children's parents for a crucial gathering. Mun-jeong, accompanying him, reminds the gathered parents of their paramount duty to supervise their offspring. Ultimately, faced with the weight of their responsibilities, the parents have no alternative but to retract their lawsuit. Following this, the pair of lawyers share a meal with Ji-seok, Mun-jeong's husband, also extending an invitation to Hee-ji, whose engagement elsewhere leaves Ju-hyeong visibly disheartened.

Later, Ju-hyeong receives a text from Min-gu, conveying that the children have tendered their apologies. Meanwhile, during another meeting, Jang Su-gil's insulting remarks towards Chang-won ignite a fiery altercation, culminating in Chang-won's assurance that Su-gil will spend the next decade to two in prison. Determined to assist Hee-ji, Chang-won steps in to mediate with the owner of the Chinese restaurant, where he is a familiar face.

Their repeated visits to the restaurant, aimed at persuading the owner, yield no results. Amid these encounters, Chang-won discovers that Hee-ji lost her parents when she was seven and was subsequently raised by her aunt and uncle. Elsewhere, Kim Hyung-min convenes with a group to discuss a scholarship she endows for students, only to be informed of a complaint against a student named Lee Dong-su, though details remain scarce.

Eventually, the restaurant owner relents and grants Hee-ji access to the CCTV footage, which confirms Moon Dong-geun's involvement in taking the shopping bag containing the watch. Despite searching, Dong-geun cannot locate the watch at his residence. As a lawyer, Hee-ji advises Dong-geun to feign ignorance, but as a compassionate individual, she urges him to embrace honesty and take responsibility for his mistake. Heeding her heartfelt plea, Dong-geun visits the police station, confessing to the deed and pledging to compensate the victim for any losses incurred.

Elsewhere, Mun-jeong finds herself hastily summoned to the courthouse to attend to some urgent matters on behalf of Na Gyeong-min. She dashes over, arriving just in the nick of time, yet her demeanor betrays a lingering concern for her infant. Following this harried episode, she schedules an appointment with a gynecologist, seeking reassurance for her own well-being.

Hee-ji, grateful for Chang-won's unwavering support, treats him to a dinner replete with heartfelt gratitude. Over their meal, he opens up about his visitation duties, and Hee-ji responds with genuine empathy, understanding the weight of his responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Kim Hyung-min orchestrates a lunch gathering of all the managing partners, her proposition clear and direct: she urges them to undertake a particular case, specifically requesting a collaborative effort from Na Gyeong-min and Kang Jung-yun. The managing partners are momentarily taken aback but agree to consider her proposal, their curiosity piqued.

Ju-hyeong crosses paths with Hee-ji and inquires about the progress of her case. Playfully, he reminds her of her earlier promise to treat him to dinner in gratitude for his assistance. She warmly agrees, pledging to fulfill her obligation soon.

Back at the office, Sang-gi starts receiving a barrage of peculiar text messages from anonymous sources. The catalyst for this flurry of communications turns out to be an article that exposes a list of law students who were admitted to law school due to their parents' influential positions as business leaders, prosecutors, and judges. Included on this list, Sang-gi's identity is revealed as the son of Ha Jong-man, the chairman of Hanguk Group. As he exits the workplace, Sang-gi's phone buzzes incessantly with messages and calls from unknown numbers, each accusing him of being a privileged scion who lacks empathy for his clients' struggles.
