Law and the City – K-drama Episode 6 1

Meanwhile, the two managing partners agree to take on Kim Hyung-min's case as co-counselors, assigning it to Ju-hyeong and Hee-ji. Ju-hyeong, in particular, seems overly enthusiastic about spending more time with Hee-ji. The case revolves around Chang-jun, a club DJ who witnessed the club manager, Lee Dong-su, savagely beating a junior employee named Min-gyu. Despite Chang-jun's police report, there was no tangible evidence of the altercation. To compound matters, Min-gyu also lied about the incident, leading to Chang-jun's dismissal. Now, he is determined to prove that his termination was unjust.

As they deliberate on the case, Ju-hyeong points out the challenge in establishing Chang-jun as a legitimate employee, given his lack of a contract or regular shifts. Hee-ji proposes that they visit the club and confront Min-gyu. They approach Min-gyu and inform him of Chang-jun's plight, but he casually brushes it off, claiming that Chang-jun deserved the beating and that it wasn't a big deal. Undeterred, Hee-ji hands him her business card, hoping he might reconsider. Just then, Lee Dong-su catches them, prompting Ju-hyeong and Hee-ji to quickly don the guise of aspiring DJs to slip out of the tight spot.

Later, during another meeting with Chang-jun, he reveals that he's not interested in compensation for his lost wages. His sole objective is to clear his name, prove his dismissal was wrong, and regain his job at the club.

Elsewhere, Sang-gi receives a call from a headhunter, who mentions a startup keen to hire him. Realizing it's a sly reference to Hanguk Group, he abruptly ends the call. His managing partner, Kim Ryu-jin, inquiries about the truth behind the article, to which Sang-gi matter-of-factly responds that it's not accurate.

The circle of friends convenes once more in the lounge, partaking in a communal feast, albeit with Sang-gi's absence noticeable. Chang-won inquiries into their awareness of the underlying truth, to which they confess ignorance but express respect for Sang-gi's reluctance to discuss it. Nonetheless, Chang-won's demeanor darkens, his family's ties to Hanguk Group weighing heavily on his mind. Their encounter in the elevator escalates tensions further as Chang-won expresses his belief that their bond was strong enough for such confidences. Sang-gi's silence in response only deepens Chang-won's distress.

In the courtroom, Ju-hyeong and Hee-ji orchestrate a clever maneuver, utilizing Chang-jun's cell phone location data and text messages to establish his frequent employment at the club. Their strategy pays off. Post-trial, Lee Dong-su, seething with anger, attempts to confront Chang-jun, only to be thwarted by Ju-hyeong. Hee-ji then drops a bombshell, revealing Min-gyu's agreement to testify and impending complaint. Kim Hyung-min's presence adds another layer of complexity as Lee Dong-su berates her before storming off in a fury.

Elsewhere, Mun-jeong undergoes a sonogram, her thoughts elsewhere. She crosses paths with a new client, a desperate mother whose daughter, Yu-jin, has been ensnared by drug addiction after being sent abroad for education. Despite the best intentions and interventions, Yu-jin's descent into drugs was unstoppable. Returned home, she was promptly handed over to the authorities upon arrival. The mother now turns to Mun-jeong, beseeching her to secure her daughter's release. This plea strikes a chord with Mun-jeong, reminding her of her own struggles.

As she exits her workplace, Mun-jeong senses the icy tension between Chang-won and Sang-gi as they depart together. Suddenly, two reporters descend upon Sang-gi, peppering him with inquisitive questions. Chang-won intervenes, physically shielding Sang-gi from their onslaught.

In the sanctity of his home, Sang-gi pens a poignant new blog post. He recounts his lifelong financial struggles, the relentless effort, and scholarship reliance that propelled him through law school. A revelation follows: the genuine heir to Hanguk Group is, in fact, his classmate with a similar moniker, not him. His closing wish is poignant—that no one else should endure the ordeal of proving their poverty, as he has been compelled to do. Later, Sang-gi joins his mother for dinner at the restaurant where she works, finding solace in familial warmth amidst the chaos.

The following day, an unusual hush fell upon the group of lawyers once more. Out of the blue, Ju-hyeong disclosed that he had undertaken Park Su-jeong's divorce proceedings. Chang-won shared his visitation duties, while Mun-jeong revealed her pregnancy with a touch of trepidation. Sang-gi mentioned his blog post, which they collectively dismissed with a wave of the hand. And just as swiftly, harmony was restored among them. Chang-won and Sang-gi mended their fences as well.

Later, Sang-gi confessed to his boss that his initial silence stemmed from a belief that the issue would blow over and he didn't want to draw undue attention to the individual involved. Hee-ji then persuaded Ju-hyeong, who typically shied away from such occasions, to accompany her to the ruling hearing. To everyone's relief, the verdict favored Chang-jun, moving Ju-hyeong deeply, albeit unacknowledged.

Mun-jeong's concerns over her pregnancy lingered, prompting her to confide in Ju-hyeong about her apparent lack of maternal instincts. Ju-hyeong reassured her, noting her innate fondness for people and how she would undoubtedly cherish her child with the same warmth.

Meanwhile, Chang-won visited the prison only to learn that Jang Su-gil had left for his own ruling hearing. Upon returning to the office, he was surprised to find Su-gil there, acquitted of all charges. Su-gil handed him his business card and extended an invitation to work for him.

Elated, Mun-jeong texted her friends, inviting them to a pregnancy celebration. She then called Ji-seok to share the news, but he didn't respond; his phone died shortly after. As she was leaving the office, however, Ji-seok arrived, tears streaming down his face, feeling guilty for not being with Mun-jeong in time. He quickly assured her of his joy and his words cheered her up.

Ju-hyeong and Hee-ji arrive punctually for Mun-jeong's dinner gathering, only to find that Mun-jeong, accompanied by her husband, has to rush back home, postponing the festivities until another day. Undeterred, Sang-gi spirits Chang-won away to meet his mother, to Chang-won's delighted anticipation. Meanwhile, Ju-hyeong and Hee-ji find themselves sharing an impromptu dinner together.

A nostalgic glimpse into the past reveals Ju-hyeong hastily escorting Hee-ji to her part-time job at a Hong Kong restaurant, literally carrying her on his back after she inadvertently twists her ankle. At the restaurant, Hee-ji captivates the patrons with a melodious tune on the piano. Their subsequent stroll fills the air with dreams and aspirations, with Ju-hyeong tenderly wrapping her injured ankle. It is during this tender moment that he courageously invites her to reunite in Seoul.

Presently, the same enchanting melody echoes through the restaurant. Ju-hyeong inquisitively wonders how Hee-ji embarked on the path to become a lawyer. She shares how her father fell prey to a pyramid scheme, plunging their family into dire straits. This pivotal moment sparked her determination to shield her loved ones. She also acknowledges his triumph in fulfilling his aspiration of becoming an esteemed attorney.

Our journey back in time continues as Hee-ji and Ju-hyeong approach their hostel. Hee-ji delicately inquires about his impending departure, and with a nod, he confirms it for the next day. Boldly stepping forward, Hee-ji prompts a nervous Ju-hyeong to share a tender kiss.

In the present, Ju-hyeong opts to take the subway with Hee-ji, choosing this more intimate mode of transportation over the usual bus ride home.
