The episode kicks off with Mickey Fitzpatrick (Amanda Seyfried), her voice tinged with regret, apologizing to Truman Dawes (Nicholas Pinnock) for the day he sustained his injury. Truman, however, corrects her, suggesting that her true apology should extend to not visiting him afterward.
Flashback to 2014, where Kacey Fitzpatrick (Ashleigh Cummings) bursts into Mickey's home, bursting with pride as she shows off her one-year sobriety coin. Mickey gently urges her to share this triumph with Gee (John Doman), but Kacey is steadfast in her belief that he would be indifferent. Their conversation then drifts to their late mother, a figure lost to Kacey's memory. With heartfelt gratitude, Kacey thanks Mickey for welcoming her back into her life.
Returning to the present, Mickey awakens to find Truman assisting Thomas Fitzpatrick (Callum Vinson) in crafting pancakes, a cozy scene that fills the air with warmth. After savoring their meal, Thomas dashes outside to play, leaving Truman and Mickey to ponder over Kacey's mysterious disappearance. Mickey suspects that Kacey's absence has nothing to do with her current case but rather is linked to a sinister red pickup truck she's repeatedly noticed lurking outside her house. Truman offers to babysit Thomas while Mickey heads to work, gently nudging her to inform someone at the precinct about the truck's eerie presence. She responds with a shake of her head, convinced that Sergeant Ahearn (Patch Darragh) would brush it off.
At the station, Detective Davis Danjarat (Joe Daru) briefs the officers on a chilling development: three females found deceased, their bodies loaded with lethal levels of insulin. Once the briefing concludes, Mickey pulls Danjarat aside, sharing the intel about the Avenue women who also spotted the red pickup truck. He assures her they'll keep a vigilant eye out for it.
Upon responding to a domestic disturbance call, Mickey discovers that the woman at the scene actually recognizes her from their high school days. However, instead of accepting her assistance, the lady rejects it outright, harboring resentment from the past, stating that Mickey had always considered herself superior to everyone around her.
Elsewhere, Truman and Thomas are busy installing a camera and a comprehensive security system at Mickey's house. While on this task, Truman encounters Cecilia Mahon (played by Harriet Sansom Harris), who confides in him that she senses Mickey might be entangled in some trouble and expresses concern for Thomas's wellbeing. Overhearing this conversation, Thomas makes a discreet phone call to an unspecified contact.
Later, Mickey pays a visit to Gee to inform him about Kacey's disappearance. Gee, seemingly unperturbed, casually remarks that Kacey often goes missing, displaying little concern for her whereabouts.
Returning to her house later that evening, Mickey inadvertently triggers the newly installed alarm and finds Cecilia enjoying a cup of tea with Truman. After Cecilia's departure, Mickey shares with Truman her revelation about the truck to Danjarat. He, in turn, briefs her briefly about the fire alarm system before excusing himself. That same night, an alert Mickey spots a truck on the security camera footage, her heart racing with apprehension, only to realize it was a mere food delivery service.
Back in 2014, as Mickey serenaded the air with her horn, Kacey stumbled into their home, her eyes glassy and her steps unsteady. She confessed to Mickey, her voice tinged with regret, that she had struggled to stay away from her demons but to no avail. Mickey, her face a mask of disbelief, insisted that Kacey leave their shared space. The next morning, Kacey sought forgiveness at Mickey's door, her eyes pleading, but Mickey stood firm in her decision, her heart heavy but resolute.
Flash forward to the present, where Teacher Dana (Amber Gray), her brow furrowed in concern, inquired about the four-month overdue tuition for Thomas. Mickey explained, her voice laden with the stress of their ongoing relocation.
At her workplace, Danjarat validated Mickey's instincts regarding the red truck, revealing a potential eyewitness account that pointed to Taylor Yoon (Emily Honng) as a suspect. Empowered yet burdened, Mickey sold her cherished English horn for a sum of $2,000 and hurried to present it to Dana. Dana's response was a somber reminder that the amount barely covered a fraction of a month's tuition. She added that despite her best efforts, Thomas' father remained unreachable. When Dana suggested that another school might better accommodate their financial constraints, Mickey's anger flared, and she stormed out, her frustration palpable.
As she exited, her phone buzzed with a call from Simon Cleare (Matthew Del Negro), his voice tinged with curiosity as he inquired about Thomas' attempted contact. Mickey hung up abruptly and confronted Thomas, who admitted, his eyes wide with fear, that he had reached out to Simon out of distress. Mickey sternly advised him against disturbing Simon, emphasizing his busyness.
Later that evening, amid the dim glow of her home, Mickey searched frantically for her mother's necklace, its absence a gnawing void. Finding no trace, she resorted to leaving a desperate voicemail for Kacey, her voice breaking as she pleaded for the return of the cherished heirloom.
The following day, Mickey thoroughly combs through the neighborhood where the missing girls were often seen, inquiring with locals if they had spotted their familiar faces. A restaurant employee recognizes one of the girls and informs Mickey that she had entered the establishment accompanied by a man named Jimmy Scanlon. Disregarding an urgent call to check the adjacent location for Jimmy, Mickey proceeds, discovering his absence upon arrival. As she exits the premise, she unexpectedly encounters Eddie Lafferty (Dash Mihok), who reveals that the deceased girl's image has been haunting him, prompting him to seek clarification. He concurs with Mickey's earlier assertion that the girls deserved better. Later, at the precinct, Ahearn confronts Mickey for disregarding the earlier call.
That evening, Truman alerts Mickey to the discovery that Dock McLathcie (OT The Real) has been tagged in numerous photographs on Kasey's Facebook page, startling Mickey, who was unaware Kasey even possessed a social media profile. Recognizing a location in one of the snapshots but keeping this observation to herself, Mickey also mentions to Truman her role in Kasey's arrest for stealing her mother's necklace, explaining the reason behind their unfriending.
Mickey then drops Thomas off at Gee's residence to embark on her mission to find Kasey. Heading to the recognized spot from the photograph, she stumbles upon a pair of Kasey's shoes, just before a man brandishes a firearm and cocks it, aiming it directly at her. The episode concludes with the man greeting Mickey with a chilling, "Hello, Mickey."
