The episode kicks off immediately following Mickey Fitzpatrick's (Amanda Seyfried) earth-shattering revelation about Simon Cleare (Matthew Del Negro). Truman Dawes (Nicholas Pinnock) finds it difficult to swallow, bluntly informing Mickey that she lacks concrete evidence. Undeterred, Mickey vows to track down Paula (Perry Mattfeld) and secure the proof needed.
Mickey pays a visit to Gee (John Doman), seeking clarification on why he never confessed his feelings towards Simon. He responds by saying she wouldn't have listened anyway and queries the real purpose of her visit. She inquiries about the whereabouts of their next-door neighbors, the Mulroneys, to which he reveals that Sue has moved in with her mother.
Later in the day, Doctor Aura Williams (Britne Oldford) rings Mickey to inform her that her husband has compiled an entire folder on SOK Holding. She extends an invitation for Mickey to pick it up over dinner.
Meanwhile, Truman heads to the Police Youth program, offering to volunteer his services while subtly inquiring about Simon. The officer informs him that Simon has long since moved on.
Mickey arrives at the precinct to learn of another victim, this time shot but miraculously still alive. Detective Davis Danjarat (Joe Daru) shares the details, while Mickey bombards him with questions until Sergeant Ahearn (Patch Darragh) summons her to his office. He grills her about her visit to the Yoon family, prompting her to disclose the ID found on the tape, hinting that it might belong to a cop. Ahearn suspects it's a john posing as an officer. Reluctantly, Mickey confesses she knows the lady in question, only revealing it's Paula after Ahearn threatens to involve Internal Affairs. The conversation stalls as Danjarat interrupts, asking Mickey to visit Lutheran Hospital and converse with Emily Morris (Hedley Harlan), the recently awakened victim.
Mickey ventures to converse with Emily, yet emerges empty-handed from their encounter. Post their discussion, Mickey recounts her visit to Truman, and they devise a plan to inspect the location where Emily was shot, post her work shift.
Mickey then seeks out Sue Mulroney, portrayed by Blair Sams, inquiring about Paula. Sue reveals that Paula has been around more frequently but lacks a fixed abode these days, and hasn't caught sight of Kacey Fitzpatrick, played by Ashleigh Cummings.
Flashing back to 2010, Teen Mickey, portrayed by Maura Day, toots her horn as Young Kacey, played by Evelyn Davis, unexpectedly enters the scene. Kacey's arrival stirs a ripple of discord among Mickey's teacher, Simon, and others. Overhearing Mickey confess to Simon that she'd rather be with him, Kacey later takes an overdose.
As they investigate the site of Emily's shooting, Truman shares with Mickey his experience at the youth police program. This sparks an idea in Mickey to tail Simon. That evening, Mickey drops off Thomas Fitzpatrick, played by Callum Vinson, with Gee.
Later, Mickey and Truman join Aura and Joe Williams, played by Sean Michael Harrison, for dinner. Joe reveals that the company funding deposits into Jimmy Scanlon's bank account is a subsidiary of a Chinese consulting firm, adding that the whole scenario exudes suspicion, prompting him to delve deeper. When Aura and Mickey find themselves alone, Aura inquires about Truman. Mickey downplays their relationship as purely professional. Aura confesses her fondness for him, prompting Mickey to ask if it was apparent early on that things were amiss with Simon. Aura admits she was initially intimidated by him.
Elsewhere, Gee and Thomas engage in a playful game of dress-up, with Gee subsequently introducing Thomas to the enigmatic Jerry Blavat. Meanwhile, Truman and Mickey prepare to tail Simon, and she inquires if he has ever pondered sitting for the detective's exam. He responds by expressing his fondness for the uniform, while she admits to having had similar thoughts but never pursuing the test. She mentions the decent pay and the opportunity to keep tabs on Kacey as additional incentives. This prompts a fleeting memory of 2015, when Kacey was released from prison and stayed with her and Simon. Truman's announcement that Simon has exited draws her back to the present.
As they trail Simon to a nearby bar, Mickey broaches the subject of Truman's gambling habits. Curious about her own vice, he asks, and she reveals it to be playing the English horn, proceeding to serenade him with a tune over the radio. Simon emerges shortly afterward. When they resume following him, Mickey's mind drifts back to a忆忆 of Simon and Kacey's heated argument, culminating in Kacey being ejected from their home. The arrival at Dock's deserted building snaps her out of her reverie.
They alight from their vehicle and continue on foot, witnessing Simon approaching a young woman. They then discreetly observe as he and the girl share an intimate encounter. Subsequently, they tail him back to his residence, after which Truman sees Mickey safely home.
The following day, Truman phones Mickey, inviting her to meet him at Dukes at 7:00 PM to discuss matters pertaining to him with a neutral third party. Initially hesitant, Mickey eventually agrees. Later that evening, she enlists Bethany (Nina White) to watch over Thomas while she steps out. Moments later, Truman and Mickey converge with Mike DiPaolo (Matthew San Blumm) at a bar. Mickey imparts what she knows about Cleare and his potential link to the murders, but before she can elaborate, Mike interrupts to inform them that they've apprehended the perpetrator and secured DNA evidence tying him to the crimes. The apprehended individual is revealed to be Sean Kelly (Ben Thompson).
Upon Truman's return home, Mickey panics upon discovering Bethany's absence. Inside, she finds Thomas missing as well. Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Mahon (Harriet Sansom Harris) drops by to explain that Bethany had to depart unexpectedly and asks if Mickey can look after Thomas, who is currently slumbering downstairs. After tucking Thomas in, Mickey expresses gratitude to Truman for his unwavering support and belief in her. The episode concludes with a tender kiss shared between them.
