The second episode of "Lord of Mysteries" kicks off with Klein presented with an intriguing proposition: to embark on the path of a Beyonder and integrate into this enigmatic group. As the velvet cloak of night surrenders to the golden rays of dawn, Zhou finds himself pondering this life-altering opportunity. If he chooses to seize it, he is instructed to seek out the Wright at the notorious Hound Pub.
Klein acknowledges that this could be the key to unlocking the mysteries he craves, yet he is acutely aware that it might also expose him as a transmigrator. It's a gamble fraught with peril, yet driven by curiosity, Klein ventures to the pub. He whispers Dunn's name to the bartender, who guides him to a clandestine elevator whispering secrets of its own, descending into the depths where Blackthorn Security, a moniker for the covert Nighthawks, lies in wait.
Gathered within these walls are the elite members of the Nighthawks, including Rozanne Adelaide, a clerk whose charm belies her role as his guide through this hidden realm. Familiar faces like Leonard and Dunn are present, but new names like Royale Reideen and Frye, a scientist with a macabre penchant for corpse collection, introduce themselves. Kenley, a nervous novice with barely six months under his belt, and Old Neil, an alchemist whose table runs wisdom deep, complete the tableau. Their introductions complete, Klein is escorted to Dunn, where he inks his fate and agrees to become one of them.
Dunn reveals that their group serves as the Church of the Evernight Goddess's vanguard against supernatural malevolence. Membership grants access to potions that transform the imbiber into a Beyonder. However, this power comes with a treacherous price; the risk of losing one's mind looms large. As a grim testament to this peril, Dunn leads Klein into an adjacent chamber where candles flicker in silent tribute to the fallen, their gravestones a haunting reminder of the dire consequences that can befall those who tread this path. The potions, though empowering, can drive some to madness, and Klein must tread with utmost caution.
In the sanctuary of the Evernight Goddess Church, potions of Sequence Nine, akin to those mentioned by "The Hanged Man" in the first episode, are offered, each granting access to four distinct Pathways. Klein finds himself at a crossroads and must soon decide his fate, but before doing so, he is granted the opportunity to consult with Old Neil in the enigmatic alchemy room.
Old Neil, captivated by Klein's prowess in the languages of Feysac and Hermes, rewards his curiosity by unveiling a tome bestowed by Emperor Roselle. Intriguingly, within its pages, red circles encircle certain characters, revealing a text inscribed in simplified Chinese. Through these transcripts and the visions they conjure, Klein's decision crystallizes; he shall embark on the path of the Seer. Understanding that the potion's full potential hinges on his ability to internalize it, Klein resolves to embrace this destiny.
With the potion meticulously crafted, Klein is exhorted to seize the moment and welcome his nascent gift without hesitation. Initially, the immense power threatens to overwhelm him, his mind a tempest of untamed energy. He is urged to maintain focus, to conjure an imaginary object foreign to this realm as an anchor of tranquility.
Drawing inspiration from his Earthly roots, Klein envisions a myriad of objects from his previous life. Each visualization brings him closer to mastering this formidable force, calming his tumultuous spirit until he finally wrestles it into submission.
With his latent abilities now awakened, Klein perceives a bizarre, ethereal realm veiling the fabric of reality—a domain known as Spirit Vision. This extraordinary gift bestows upon him the capability to decipher the myriad auras that permeate the world. Within this spectral realm, Klein wields diverse powers, yet he must exercise caution lest he overexerts his nascent talent, lest it bring forth untold complications.
Prior to ascending the ranks of official Beyonders, Klein finds himself confined to the mundane tasks of clerkship. Upon procuring an elegant cane, he is assigned the menial chore of lurking near Welch's abode in search of a missing notebook. However, Klein harbors grander designs.
As he prowls the cobblestone streets, Leonard, recognizing his potential, entrusts our protagonist with a legitimate mission befitting a Seer. They must track down a missing youth named Elliot, utilizing a mystical ability known as the Dowsing Rod—a power previously whispered about by the enigmatic Old Neil. With this guidance, Klein uncovers Elliot's whereabouts: ensconced within a grand mansion on Foreston Street, held captive by two nefarious individuals.
Leonard swiftly dispatches these miscreants, displaying his formidable Beyonder prowess, only for a far more ominous presence to emerge. The two men conjoin, transforming into a monstrous creature with razor-sharp fangs. It lunges at them with terrifying ferocity, yet this mutant monstrosity proves no match for Leonard's Midnight Poet ability, which casts it into a deep slumber.
Klein realizes that this mansion is no mere newcomer on the scene and could hold the key to unlocking long-buried memories. Zhou, perceiving Klein's familiarity with the place, intends to unravel the hows and whens of his past connections here. More crucially, this mansion might also conceal vital clues regarding the missing notebook's whereabouts, adding another layer of intrigue to their quest.
