The extraterrestrial occupants aboard initiate communication, revealing their past dealings with her husband when he governed a Mechanist colony on Konis—a time that now lies eight years in the past, yet much has shifted since then.
The adversaries within the Shaper Council have seized control of Konis, clarifying the grim sequence of executions and the bloodshed that marked their ruthless ascent to power. Rose, now Lydia, harbors but one desire: to annihilate the entire Konis colony. However, the aliens she confronts refuse to indulge in bloodshed. They acknowledge Rose's possession of a highly prized gem and seek to broker a different path through negotiation.
Enter Little Nose for Profits, an endearing alien pet presented as a potential bridge. The proposition is simple yet profound: in exchange for allowing Little Nose to accompany Lydia, the aliens will return in 96 days to gauge whether her stance towards the pet and the jewel has undergone a transformation.
Well, the tiny creature eagerly ventures down to spend time with Rose, who, upon their companionship, bestows upon it the moniker of "Nosey." As their bond deepens, Rose encounters a morning surprise in her base—a cocoon cradling the growing creature, which has feasted on the fluttering insects around, seemingly nourishing its rapid development. Clad in a coat of fur, Nosey leaps joyfully towards Rose, enveloping her in a heartwarming embrace.
However, the tranquil moment is shattered when Jade and his Konis clones storm in. With vengeance in mind, Jade aims to conclude his earlier mission on the planet by eliminating Rose, having traced her location through the transmissions she sent to the alien colony earlier. Despite Lydia's valiant effort to fend off the attackers, the air grows thin, and she faces a poignant dilemma. She makes a heroic sacrifice, allowing the creature to consume her, thereby imparting some of her very essence into it in a transformed state.
