Episode 8 of Season 4 of "Love, Death & Robots" opens with a daring crew aboard a small aircraft venturing into the treacherous heart of World War II. A solitary bomber soars into France, its mission stark and grim: to target a church perched just south of the German border. The air is thick with dread, as the men cling to their faith and hope, realizing all too well that this is a suicide mission par excellence.
Among the passengers, Zeke stands out—a cocksure individual who mocks their fears with snarky remarks. Meanwhile, Coombs, the enigmatic mission leader donning glasses and clutching a mysterious compass, holds many details close to his chest. His demeanor is shrouded in secrecy, adding to the mission's aura of uncertainty.
The Nazi-occupied church serves as the focal point of a grotesque blood ritual. Coombs delays the bomber's attack until his peculiar compass aligns perfectly. The objective, it transpires, is to annihilate a monstrosity arising from the depths of the Earth, summoned forth by the Nazis through their sinister ritual sacrifices. Regrettably, the bombs prove ineffective, and the beast emerges victorious from the ruins.
Coombs' compass shatters, and soon, all aboard the plane—except for Zeke—begin to cough up blood. The winged creature, seemingly thriving on fear, swiftly catches up, tearing the plane apart and claiming countless lives with its razor-sharp claws.
The Preacher meets his end in a maelstrom of gore, yet manages to land a few blows that momentarily weaken the beast, hinting at its vulnerability to the power of Christ. Clearly, this entity feeds on terror, and after decimating much of the crew, only Zeke and Tap remain standing. They mustered their remaining strength to fire a cross directly into the creature's golden visage, causing it to explode in a fiery blaze.
This harrowing encounter transforms Zeke, a former skeptic, and he finds solace in religion, embracing it as a comforting balm for his shattered psyche.
