In the opening of Episode 2 of "Mad Concrete Dreams," Sang-ja, Yi-gyeong's mother, is hosting a lavish birthday celebration. However, the loan sharks that Hwal-seong owes money to threaten to ruin the festivities. The leader gives Hwal-seong a week to come up with the money.
After the party, Hwal-seong kidnaps Yi-gyeong and takes her to Su-jong's refrigerator basement. Meanwhile, Kim-gyun's family prepares to have him cremated. Su-jong leaves early after spotting Hwal-seong. Through a flashback, we go back to the day he found out that Hwal-seong kidnapped his wife and was hiding her in his basement. Hwal-seong made him an offer of 500 million Won if he cooperates. At the time, Su-jong wanted to call the police and tried to convince his friend to do the right thing. After a little scuffle, Hwal-seong gave Su-jong drugs to knock out Yi-gyeong three times a day. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Su-jong agrees to cooperate for a while. Na-rae nearly catches Su-jong as he tends to Yi-gyeong.
Unfortunately, Kim-sun is not doing well following the gruesome death of her brother and her husband's suspicious behavior. Na-rae summons a family meeting and begs her mom to at least eat something. During the family meeting, Kim-sun confronts Su-jong about his disappearance during Kim-gyun's cremation. He breaks down and cries, and she reminds him that what matters is family. Afterwards, they go for lunch at Kim-gyun's favorite restaurant.
While there, Kim-sun asks about the missing money and asks him to be honest moving forward. He apologizes and promises to fix things. Just then, he gets a message from the realtor that there is someone interested in renting the second floor and using the basement refrigerator room. He remembers that Yi-gyeong is locked inside the basement. He lies to Kim-sun and Na-rae that he is going to the restroom, and he steals a bike and rushes home.
On the way, he has a minor accident and breaks his phone screen. He arrives just in time before the realtor, interested renter, and Dong-gi open the basement door.
With each passing minute, Na-rae and Kim-sun's anger towards Su-jong intensifies at the restaurant. As Hwal-seong arrives to investigate, Su-jong realizes that he has forgotten to medicate Yi-gyeong, who is now fully awake. They rush in to inject her with the necessary drug, but Yi-gyeong tries to fight back, only to be quickly subdued.
Later, Hwal-seong provides Su-jong with a burner phone and instructs him on how to communicate with Sang-ja when demanding the ransom. He then returns home and informs Sang-ja that Yi-gyeong has been kidnapped. He shows her a message from the kidnappers demanding 3 billion Won and insisting on dealing exclusively with Hwal-seong, with no involvement from the police.
Sang-ja hesitates about giving strangers such a large sum of money and insists on making a deal with the kidnappers, even mentioning contacting the police. However, Hwal-seong urges her not to upset the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, Yo-na briefs Morgan Lee on the latest situation regarding the redevelopment phase. She claims that she has finished with the Seyun building and is confident that she has Su-jong where she wants him. The only problem is the owner of Hanmaeum, who is not budging, and Sang-ja. Morgan Lee warns Yo-na that they need to wrap things up quickly and quietly and scolds her for killing a cop, reminding her that the higher-ups are turning their attention to Singapore. If they lose interest in South Korea, they are finished. After Morgan Lee leaves, Yo-na asks Dr. Jang to proceed carefully.
The next morning, Su-jong continues setting things up as he receives a letter from Real Capital reminding him of his total debt. As planned, he calls Sang-ja using a voice distortion app to hide his identity while Hwal-seong acts like a concerned husband. Sang-ja tries to bargain with the kidnappers but ultimately loses the battle. She is shaken when she sees a live video of Yi-gyeong.
After the call, she mentions contacting the police, but Hwal-seong talks her out of it. She suggests tricking the kidnappers with half of the money, but he asks her not to try that.
In the meantime, Kim-sun visits a divorce attorney to explore her options. The lawyer advises her to find out how much money she will receive after the divorce, and it's even better when the husband is at fault. Kim-sun checks their bank accounts and realizes they are in massive debt. While doing laundry, she notices a strand of a woman's hair on Su-jong's shirt and starts questioning if he is having an affair.
As the story unfolds, Su-jong meets with Hwal-seong to finalize their plans for the exchange.** Demanding 1.5 billion for his cooperation, Su-jong's request is met with Hwal-seong's acquiescence.
Meanwhile, at the police station, Bo-ram discovers footage of Kim-gyun's accident.She presents it to Ju-ran, who appeals to her boss, Yong-hoon, for an investigation. However, Yong-hoon orders her to drop the matter and accompanies him to the next crime scene.
That evening, Hwal-seong returns home to find his house swamped with police officers. Sang-ja bribes Yong-hoon to ensure the kidnappers don't flee with the money. They outfit Hwal-seong in a wired bulletproof jacket.
Unaware of the growing danger, Su-jong prepares for the exchange.Yi-gyong is placed in a large bag, and Su-jong nearly pees himself when Dong-gi offers to help carry the bag upstairs. After securing the bag in the trunk and helping Dong-gi with a small favor, Su-jong drives to the meeting point. Kim-sun follows him, suspecting he's having an affair and determined to catch him in the act.
En route to the meeting point, Hwal-seong feigns a stomachache and requests a stop at a petrol station.** He sneaks into the nearest convenience store and pays the cashier to use his phone. When Bo-ram enters the store, he hides and pays the cashier more money to keep quiet. Unfortunately, Su-jong's broken phone screen makes it difficult for him to receive calls or view messages from Hwal-seong.
The police as Su-jong arrives at the meeting point. Hwal-seong tries to signal him as he delivers the money. Unfortunately, Su-jong doesn't catch on until it's too late. The police rush in to arrest Su-jong, and in the chaos, Hwang-seol panics and tries to restrain him.
A scuffle ensues, and Hwang-seol falls from the rooftop.** Meanwhile, Su-jong gets into his car and drives off, with Yi-gyeong still in the trunk and the money on the back seat.
