In the sixth episode of Mad Concrete Dreams, the aftermath of Yang-ja's tragic demise sets the stage for a tumultuous investigation. Ju-ran and Bo-ram's request for CCTV footage is met with a disheartening revelation: the security system in the building had malfunctioned, leaving only a tape from the previous night, depicting Dong-gi fleeing the scene of the crime. Kim-sun's explanation stirs suspicion in Ju-ran's mind, but for now, their primary suspect lies with Dong-gi.

Mad Concrete Dreams – K-drama Episode 6 1

Yi-gyeong's arrival at the storage unit is met with sobs and a devastating sense of loss. However, as she stands in the midst of the room, a sudden rush of déjà vu sends her into a flashback of her own kidnapping, which culminates in a fainting spell. Hospitalized and learning of her pregnancy, Yi-gyeong's situation adds another layer of complexity to an already convoluted case.

Yang-ja's wake is attended by a diverse group, including Sang-ho, Mr. Kim, and members of the police force. Su-jong guides Sang-ho to a seat beside Mr. Kim, who promptly leaves due to his aversion to associating with Sang-ho. Sang-ho tasks Su-jong with purchasing Mr. Kim's building, promising a lucrative redevelopment deal. However, Ju-ran's confrontational approach towards Sang-ho regarding Chang-su's death disrupts the gathering. She also notes Yong-hoon's sudden fondness for Sang-ho, further fueling suspicion.

Meanwhile, Su-jong overhears the detectives' conversation and learns that they suspect Dong-gi of being the kidnapper. He quickly texts Kim-sun, and they hastily leave to move the money from the building, anticipating a possible police raid. A call from Dong-gi follows, and after their meeting, he demands a staggering sum of two billion won for his silence.

On their way home, Kim-sun and Su-jong engage in a heated debate over whether to pay Dong-gi or follow Sang-ho's lead in acquiring Mr. Kim's building. Kim-sun's fury is palpable as she warns that pursuing this opportunity could be a recipe for disaster. She emphasizes that any misstep could destroy their family's hard-fought anonymity and safety.

In this emotionally charged episode, each decision carries immense weight, as the characters navigate a web of secrets, lies, and betrayal that threatens to unravel their lives.

Regardless of the situation, Su-jong does not rule out the possibility of earning more money from the redevelopment. He visits Hwal-sung at the hospital and regrets his role in the fake kidnapping. However, since he had already done it and received the money, the idea of not using it to get closer to the jackpot from the Sejeong-ro redevelopment makes him feel conflicted. He has a dream in which Hwal-sung calls him a loser and provokes him, saying that Kim-sun had an affair with him because Su-jong always lacked self-confidence, having been born dirt poor. Although it was just a dream, he takes the insult seriously, which further solidifies his resolve to get the Hanmaeum building.

The next day, he approaches Mr. Kim with Hee-joo, ready with the contract of sale, but he quickly dismisses them. Meanwhile, Yi-gyeong inherits all her mother's money and business, including the Sejeong-ro redevelopment project. Now with all the money, she starts looking to deal with the people who have hurt her. She approaches Dong-chul of Loan Heaven with an offer to find and take care of Dong-gi. To get his information, she calls Yi-gyeong to provide his details from the tenant agreement.

Knowing that Yi-gyeong is looking for Dong-gi and the police are tailing Su-jong, he and Kim-sun come up with a dangerous idea to frame Dong-gi for the kidnapping. They plant evidence from the kidnapping in his motel room and leak the location of the meeting where they are to give him money to Dong-chul. Su-jong heads to the meet-up location with fake bills, hoping to stall Dong-gi as long as he can until the police arrive. Unfortunately, Dong-gi realizes the scam sooner and turns violent, forcing Su-jong to flee the scene just as Dong-chul and his men arrive.

At the same time, Ju-ran and Bo-ram also arrive at the scene, having gotten a clue from Dong-gi's motel room. The confrontation with the police and Dong-chul's men leads to another fatal accident, where Dong-gi is shot dead by Ju-ran for holding Bo-ram hostage at gunpoint. With Dong-gi dead, Su-jong uses the money to buy the Hanmaeum building after Kim-sun asks Yi-gyeong to intervene. Mr. Kim advises Su-jong that not giving up is courageous, but what is even braver is knowing when to quit, especially for his family and Da-rae's sake.

Meanwhile, Yi-gyeong takes Da-rae on a shopping spree accompanied by Kim-sun. When they stop for coffee, Yi-gyeong wonders why Dong-gi did all he did, and Kim-sun responds that people can do anything, even betray their families for money. Yi-gyeong warns her not to do so, as she can give her the money. Suddenly, Yi-gyeong starts feeling morning sickness, and Kim-sun recommends a hospital and her friend Nurse Joo. Yi-gyeong's suspicion that Kim-sun is the other woman intensifies when she recalls seeing the same Nurse Joo on Hwal-sung's phone.

At the end of the episode, Su-jong puts the coffee shop in the market for lease and breathes a sigh of relief that everything turned out well. He starts sinking into the fantasy of how perfect life will be moving forward, especially now that he has powerful connections. Back at the hospital, Hwal-sung wakes up. Later, Su-jong finds him waiting at his office in the Seyun building. Hwal-sung confronts him with one question: "Are you happy?"
