Published: Mar 31 2026

In the fourth episode of Marshals, Calvin arrives at Kayce's doorstep with a camera crew in tow, following the threat that surfaced last week. He knows that Kayce can't ignore this and that he must proceed with caution, suspecting that it's the Cleggs seeking revenge. Calvin enquires at the local bar, where some of the residents warn him that any threat from the Cleggs is legitimate and not to be taken lightly. However, we're still unsure if it's them who are targeting Kayce.

Answers might come sooner rather than later. The DOJ has received a complaint from Randall Clegg, alleging that Kayce has violated his son's civil rights when he killed him. This means that the team is under scrutiny, and Andrea will be temporarily taking charge.

Surprisingly, Andrea is on Kayce's side, despite her constant jabs and arrogance, questioning Harry Gifford about why he's so adamant that Kayce is guilty. Gifford clearly holds a grudge against Kayce and believes that the DOJ investigation will uncover other skeletons in the Dutton closet when they peek around the corner, even if it's not directly tied to this case.

Kayce and Calvin head out into the wilderness together when they hear that a helicopter carrying Tom Weaver and his pilot have called in an SOS after the wind kicked up. They're still trying to locate it, but our two protagonists will be heading out to scout the area.

However, en route to the crash site, they encounter a man who holds them up at gunpoint. Apparently, he's just a man living off the land, and both Kayce and Calvin easily turn the tables on him. They tell him to go and turn himself in at the ranger station, given the incoming storm, and make their way to the helicopter.

Kayce and Calvin assist the pilot and the female passenger, Helen, but their situation takes a turn for the worse when a brown bear appears. Kayce's impulsive actions, such as firing his weapon, cause a disturbance, but he quickly joins forces with Tom to help the pilot and Helen. Meanwhile, Andrea dives deep into the case, revealing that Carson Clegg had filed a complaint against Kayce with the help of a local attorney named Andrew Schroeder. Schroeder has a habit of filing civil cases, and the only way to clear Kayce's name is to prove that Carson Clegg was armed when he was killed. However, recovering the weapon is no easy feat, as Carson fell down a ravine, and the weapon could be anywhere downstream.

Belle and Andrea arrive at Schroeder's office to confront him, but they find Randall Clegg there too. He's planning to sensationalize Carson's death to influence the DOJ's review of the complaint against Kayce. Belle realizes that Schroeder will focus on Kayce's reckless behavior and how he doesn't follow the rules. The only solution is to delve into Kayce's past and determine if this character assessment is accurate or not. As it turns out, Kayce has a good history, but Belle is still concerned that his reputation as a SEAL might paint him as a rogue warrior.

The team works tirelessly to uncover the truth and clear Kayce's name, fighting against the odds and the media's perception of him.

None of this is helped by the fact that a few years back, Kayce's son was kidnapped by a militia. Word on the rez is that Kayce took a bunch of ranch hands and led an assault to get him back. It's frontier justice, but the DOJ obviously wouldn't see it that way.

While Calvin grabs the horses, Kayce helps set up a winch outside to help Tom Weaver down to the horses from the ravine. However, that guy shows up from earlier and fires on them, hurting Weaver in the process and spooking the horse. They do manage to get him down though.

Meanwhile, further revelations on the case see Harry and Miles learn that Ernie and his wife barely know Kayce, but Monica taught at Ernie's school, and they were fond of her. Apparently, they would have Monica and Tate over for dinner while Kayce was deployed. Their theory is that Kacey killed Carson because Ernie and his wife were very close with Monica. Miles points out they have no way of knowing if Kacey knew this connection, but if the Cleggs leak this theory to the press, they could have a field day.

When Calvin and Kayce return to the office, Gifford informs the former that he can now fire Kayce. Calvin is loathe to do that though because they have found trail cam footage showing exactly what happened. It's conveniently placed right where the Cleggs were fighting, and you can see the gun in Carson's hand.

Off the back of this, Harry decides they'll drop the case after all. However, after saving Weaver, Kayce heads in to see him at the hospital. Weaver offers to lend some hands to look after Kacey's ranch while he dedicates more time to the Marshal taskforce.

At the bar, we learn that the skittish guy in the wilderness who shot at Calvin and Kayce is actually a guy called Rudy Carpenter. Carpenter is a serial bomber who has been on the run for 3 years. We also learn that the barmaid is actually Calvin's daughter, while Kayce has caught the eye of Dolly Weaver, Tom's daughter.

Kayce is on the fence about whether to pursue this or not though, leaving things wide open for next week’s chapter.
