Episode 3 of "Missing You" kicks off with Kat pedaling through a whirlwind of evidence she's amassed thus far, confined to her home due to her suspension. With her hands tied, she meticulously sifts through clues at her residence. During a visit to Aqua, she reveals that Josh had made an appearance to bid farewell roughly a month after their breakup. Additionally, she spotted him six months prior, lurking outside their yoga class. Kat's mood darkens, but a call from Stacey injects new momentum into the investigation. It transpires that Josh was entangled in a bar brawl eleven years ago, resulting in his arrest. Although he paid the penalty, he vanished from the digital realm post-scuffle, leaving no trace.
Unbeknownst to him, Charlie fails to get the memo about Kat's suspension and promptly forwards the footage of Dana to her phone. This is the same enigmatic woman in the yellow dress whose fleeting glimpses we caught in the previous episode, potentially also Brendan's mother. Charlie's timing couldn't be worse as Brendan himself arrives to see Kat. She's in possession of the footage, and Brendan instantly recognizes his mother. Meanwhile, Charlie dives into obtaining bank statements while indulging in an exasperating habit of over-explaining, prompting Kat to request a simplified breakdown, akin to addressing a toddler.
Essentially, digital deletions are deceptive; they don't truly eradicate anything. Josh crafted a profile and subsequently deleted it, but traces linger under the alias Reggie Cross. Comparable preferences and an identical playlist, featuring the haunting tune "Missing You," suggest it's indeed him. Furthermore, recent hotel stays tie him to ongoing activities.
Defying her suspension, Kat boldly strides into the police station, intent on accessing her office. She slips in unnoticed, her presence unchallenged, and casually whips out her phone to record. Charlie eventually catches up, halting her and scolding her for withholding information about Brendan's connection from the authorities.
Kat then heads to the cab company, where a woman adorned in a "Defund the Police" shirt voices her disdain for law enforcement's ineptitude. Despite her skepticism, she divulges that Brendan's mother canceled a cab a day before her airport departure, claiming her boyfriend had gifted her a Bentley.
Meanwhile, Titus spouts some exposition about his life. He breeds upscale dogs and has raised and handled 14 champions in total. He’s also pretty proud of the fact he’s one of only six dog-show owners to have won Best in Show twice. This helps him hide in plain sight and not attract attention that he’s a crook. The trouble is, one of his workers is responsible for marching Dana over to the ATM in Parkchester, where she’s been picked up on camera. She withdrew money specifically for Titus, and for his insubordinate behaviour, Titus has his goon killed.
That money is obviously traced, and Brendan rings Kat that night to discuss things further. However, he’s tackled to the ground and his phone is taken in the process. Kat races to the hospital where Brendan is a bit beat up. Together, they visit “Uncle Arty” and ask about the missing money. Turns out that £250k withdrawal was specifically for Dana’s dreamhouse abroad. Oh, and Josh proposed to her too.
Kat next shows up at Charlie’s place and asks him to look into a Swiss account for her. Eventually he concedes and the two talk. Dana never got on a flight to Costa Rica (which we kinda knew already) and even more alarming, that licence plate is actually registered to a James Isherwood. The same Isherwood who’s halfway up Machu Picchu right now.
This Isherwood fella left his car in the airport parking lot, and the make of car is completely different. So this means that someone has cloned the licence place… but we already know who given we’ve seen shots of Titus throughout the show.
Regardless, Charlie, while covertly assisting Kat, initiates a fingerprint analysis on the murder weapon Monte employed against her father. The rationale stems from the overlooked second set of fingerprints. Kat subsequently encounters Stagger, who unveils a crucial missing fragment of the puzzle – Calligan. It transpires that Monte and Calligan had inside assistance from the police force, none other than Clint himself. Stagger exposes that Clint was collaborating with Calligan, but when Clint attempted to sever ties with the organization, Monte took his life. This hidden truth, which Kat's mother was privy to, has been concealed from her throughout this ordeal.
That evening, Charlie sends over insights pertaining to Josh's online profile. It transpires that Josh did not create the profile; rather, a nine-year-old child, presumably Josh's son, did. However, this revelation is merely the tip of the iceberg. The narrative deepens with several astonishing twists. Dana, seemingly, still breathes. Kat receives a call from DC Glass, informing her that Brendan's assailant has been apprehended – and to her astonishment, it's Aqua! In a final dramatic flourish, Stagger deletes a seemingly damning email; the plot twists continue to unfold relentlessly!
