Mr. & Mrs. Smith – Season 1 Episode 3

Published: Jun 05 2024

Episode 3 of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" kicks off with a thrilling assignment for Hihi, sending the Smiths deep into the Italian Dolomites. Jane and John are directed to check into a luxurious hotel, their primary objective being to shadow a mysterious couple, Gavol and Parker Martin. Their covert mission: to plant listening devices on their phones and capture a crucial phone call scheduled for 5 o'clock sharp.

As Jane and John settle into their hotel suite, their relationship deepens, and they find themselves sharing the same bed for the very first time, a moment filled with tender intimacy. But while their personal lives are heating up, so is the tension surrounding their mission.

The Martins, however, are not without their own drama. Gavol, a renowned billionaire, and Parker, a laid-back surfer, are locked in a heated argument. Gavol insists on sleeping in a separate room due to Parker's snoring, a small yet telling sign of the cracks beginning to show in their relationship.

Over breakfast the next morning, Jane and John strategize about how to execute their surveillance. They decide to split up, each following one member of the Martin couple, sharing their locations to ensure they can reunite later. The light-hearted banter between them reveals their growing comfort with each other, even as they pick apart each other's quirks and habits.

Their plan is interrupted, however, by an unexpected encounter with an amiable elderly couple seated at the next table. Jane seizes the opportunity to strike up a conversation, seemingly oblivious to the ticking clock and the importance of their mission.

As they embark on a ski adventure, John confesses a surprising truth - he doesn't know how to ski. Meanwhile, his phone buzzes incessantly with texts and calls from an unknown number. John's reluctance to reveal the caller's identity only adds to Jane's suspicion. Finally, he answers the call, revealing it to be from his mother. Jane is furious, feeling that he's putting them both in jeopardy.

The tension mounts as they descend the mountain, tailing the Martins through a bustling market. But their pursuit is abruptly halted by the same friendly elderly couple they encountered earlier, and they lose sight of their targets. Later, after locating the Martins at a restaurant, Jane's anger boils over, and she and John engage in a heated argument.

Meanwhile, across the restaurant, Parker confesses to Gavol that he's having doubts about their marriage. As Gavol departs for an important meeting, John follows her discreetly, while Jane reluctantly stays with Parker. John trails Gavol to a spa, where she retires to a steam room. Little does he know that the humid environment will render her phone useless, throwing a wrench in their meticulously planned operation.

Jane initiates a lively conversation with Parker amidst the bustling atmosphere of the restaurant. After a relaxing session at the spa, John and Gavol find solace in a soothing drink. Unexpectedly, John orders a bowl of uncooked rice, intending to use it as a makeshift tool to fix her phone. As they delve deeper into their conversation, Gavol confesses that she desires some personal space from her husband.

Parker confides in Jane, expressing a deep longing for the spark that once existed in his marriage and a sense of disconnection from his son. Curious and empathetic, Jane downloads the game his son is playing on Parker's phone, inadvertently installing a bug in the process. Later, seizing the opportunity to check Gavol's phone, John surreptitiously installs a bug on her device as well.

Suddenly, Gavol feels a wave of dizziness and hurriedly makes her way to the ladies' room. Through the bug, John hears a chilling exchange - Gavol has been kidnapped by a group of men. Jane rushes to call John, and despite their initial argument, they are both shaken by the news. Then, Parker receives a call - it's the kidnappers, demanding a ransom. When faced with the difficult decision, Parker resolutely says no.

Having recorded the call, technically their job is done. But John, driven by a sense of duty and courage, decides to take action. He bravely confronts the kidnappers, shooting them and freeing Gavol from the van. However, the situation quickly turns dire as more assailants descend upon him. Desperately, he manages to activate his location tracker, allowing Jane to race to his aid.

Jane finds John in the snow, exhausted and battered. She rushes him back to their room and immerses him in a hot water bath, seeking to restore his strength. Meanwhile, in the adjacent room, Gavol and Parker engage in a heated argument over Parker's refusal to pay the ransom. As John slowly recovers, they gradually reveal their mutual care and concern for each other.

Parker, deeply moved by the kidnapping incident, confesses to his wife that it has made him realize he still loves her. That night, the Smiths decide to reunite in the same room, seeking comfort and solace in each other's arms. Jane, however, finds herself unable to resist the urge to take a stroll - a habit John recognizes as her telltale sign of needing to let out a fart. Despite her initial denials, Jane ultimately succumbs to the urge, releasing a fart that echoes throughout the episode's finale, adding a comedic touch to the tense and emotional narrative of Mr. & Mrs. Smith Episode 3.
