Episode 4 of Murderbot kicks off once again at Corporation Rim, specifically at the Threshold Pass Fabrication Center, the birthplace of SecUnits where humans are pushed to their very limits. This labor-intensive process, fraught with human fatigue and mental exhaustion, naturally breeds errors and issues at every turn, casting a critical spotlight on industries that churn out thousands of products while paying their workers peanuts. Kudos to the subtle irony, Apple!
The narrative then abruptly shifts us back to the present, where MurderBot is forcefully dragged down the hallway by its assailant. Slumped onto a table, MurderBot plays a waiting game, only to suddenly break into an unexpected rendition of the Sanctuary Moon theme song. Post this audacious move, it engages and fends off the attacker, albeit too late to prevent the Combat Override Module from being activated and locked in.
All hope seems lost until Dr. Mensah arrives, armed with a mining drill, and efficiently neutralizes the threat. As they flee the ship, MurderBot's consciousness flickers in and out, its mind wandering between visions of the Sanctuary Moon set and the actual corridors it stumbles through.
Back on the ship, the rest of the crew is anything but pleased to discover that Mensah ordered Pin-lee back onto the chopper. Ratthi, armed with a gun, dashes out and is soon joined by the others, steeling themselves for a confrontation. Alas, Ratthi accidentally shoots himself in the head, rendering him ineffective, while Pin-lee manages to crash the ship precisely onto the robotic attacker, crushing it under its weight.
Yet, the damage has already been done. The Combat Override Module stands poised to activate, targeting them all. In a moment of selflessness, MurderBot decides to sacrifice itself, turning the gun on itself and pulling the trigger.
