"Murderbot" has proven to be a remarkably consistent addition to Apple TV+'s lineup thus far, and I would venture to say that episode 6, titled "Command Feed," stands out as its finest hour. Perhaps this is due to the dynamic duo of Sec Unit and Mensah being paired up alone, as they are the only two characters that truly captivate my interest. While we don't delve too deeply into new revelations, there are intriguing tidbits scattered throughout. Moreover, Sec Unit's peculiar delight in a violent act adds an unexpected layer to its character. Below is a recap of the episode, beware of spoilers ahead.
In the climactic scene of the previous episode, Mensah and Murderbot resolved to seek assistance at the beacon after the tragic demise of the DeltFall team and their rogue Sec Units. However, just as they approached, the beacon exploded. The sixth episode picks up right where we left off, and thankfully, our heroes have emerged unscathed.
Their hopper, however, is a different story, bearing the brunt of the explosion and left in disrepair. Our beloved bot should theoretically possess the repair manual within its system, but in a hilarious twist, it had arbitrarily deleted the instructions to make room for its beloved soap opera, "Sanctuary Moon," season 19. I couldn't help but burst into laughter upon this revelation, along with poor Mensah's bewildered expression.
A minor spat ensues as Mensah finds it hard to fathom why Sec Unit would prioritize a non-premium show over crucial information. This marks the first instance where we witness Mensah genuinely frustrated with her robotic companion. Yet, her criticism holds some merit. Ironically, the download of the soap opera proves beneficial when Mensah suffers another panic attack. Murderbot plays a soothing episode, which successfully calms her down. It's oddly charming to see the bot so engrossed in its television series.
Eventually, the duo devises a plan to restore the hopper to working condition. It requires Mensah to act decisively and bravery, delving into the bot's nerve fibers from its spine to harness the power needed. They pull it off just in the nick of time, saving the rest of the Preservation Alliance team.
They find themselves in deep trouble, for as I had suspected all along, Leebeebee's intentions were far from pure. She was never in any real danger and had never been a part of the DeltFall team. It was all an elaborate setup to lure them into this mess, and even the explosion that Murderbot and Mensah witnessed was part of the grand design. thickens, we edge closer to uncovering the truth.
Leebeebee was motivated solely by greed, informing the team that they would soon meet her mysterious employer, once they had amassed enough Sec Units. Hmm, how intriguing. It's evident that someone is amassing an army of rogue bots, but for what sinister purpose, one wonders?
All her words of camaraderie to Bharadwaj were nothing but hollow lies. However, could it be true that DeltFall had omitted crucial areas from their corporate-issued maps? Perhaps there's more to this company than meets the eye.
I'm unsure of Leebeebee's ruthlessness, for she met her demise all too swiftly at the hands of Murderbot. Just before Murderbot and Mensah intervened, it almost seemed as if Bharadwaj was making a breakthrough with her. Alas, we'll never know for certain. That's because Murderbot swiftly ended her life with a shot to the head, literally blowing her brains out. It was a graphic and disturbing sight, indeed.
In the aftermath, the Sec Unit declares with a chilling remark that killing Leebeebee felt good. Yikes! The team is now in grave danger and must relocate immediately. But where will they go next?
