At the homecoming, Cole lends a helping hand to Jackie at her cider booth. Alex, envious of Cole's charm – dubbed the "Cole effect" – watches as Cole steals the show and wins over Jackie's heart. However, Cole breaks his promise later that day by ditching plans with Jackie and her friends. Disheartened by his exclusion from the football team, he opts to spend time with Erin instead. This betrayal leaves Jackie upset, and he further disappoints her by missing his siblings' game the following day.
