Episode 5 of Season 2 of "My Life with the Walter Boys" kicks off with the arrival of Carlos Mendoza, a football scout, who comes to evaluate the high school football team. He personally encourages Cole to consider their prestigious coaching program, planting a seed of intrigue in Cole's mind. Elsewhere, Jackie and Grace are immersed in the final preparations for the Fall Formal, amidst the excitement, Jackie Formally announced to run for class president, and the election will be held a few days later.
At home, Isaac pesters Cole incessantly for a chance to shine on the field, unaware that the decision lies beyond Cole's control. Katherine arrives with elegant suits for the boys, revealing that Alex has other plans—spending quality time with Blake at the arcade, opting out of the dance.
During a school newspaper meeting, Nathan expresses his passion for writing a music column. However, after witnessing an interaction between Nathan and Zach, Skylar decides to reassign the music column, tasking Nathan with an article on school lunches instead. Nathan confronts Skylar after the meeting, but Skylar brushes it off, insisting that he just wants to enjoy the dance. They agree to revisit the issue later.
Katherine assists Jackie and Grace in getting dressed before bidding farewell to the children as they head off to the dance. George then reminds Katherine that it's the anniversary of their meeting and reveals his plans for a romantic evening together. Meanwhile, Cole, Danny, and the rest of the gang arrive at the dance to find the football players exiting a luxurious limousine, excluding Cole yet again.
Jackie catches sight of Cole chatting with Ruby and later teases him about it. Cole promptly clarifies that Ruby is only helping him with biology and chemistry. When Jackie expresses concern about the lack of dancing, Cole seizes the moment, taking her hand and leading her onto the dance floor. Soon, others join in, creating a lively atmosphere. As Jackie and Cole grow closer, she excuses herself abruptly.
Elsewhere, Alex and Blake are having a blast at the arcade, sharing their mutual understanding. In a spontaneous moment of joy, Blake leans in to kiss Alex, who hesitates and pulls away, struggling to articulate his feelings.
Back at the dance, Nathan and Zach cross paths near the punch bowl, discussing the music column. Zach confesses his desire to kiss Nathan, who reluctantly gives in. However, Skylar catches them in the act and storms off in anger. Nathan chases after him, but Skylar, understandably upset, ends their relationship on the spot.
Jackie witnesses Ruby hastily altering Angelica's dress, sparking an argument between them. Amongst the male counterparts, praise overflows for Dylan's decisive pass during the previous football game, which sealed their victory. Notably absent from these accolades is any mention of Cole's contribution, leaving him unacknowledged. Subsequently, a whisper among the boys reaches Cole's ears: Carlos, seeking to bolster his team, is contemplating Dylan's recruitment, contingent on continued tips sourced through Cole. This revelation fuels Cole's growing frustration. Jackie, attempting to offer solace, finds herself rebuffed as Cole insists she seek comfort elsewhere.
Elsewhere, George and Katherine embark on a nostalgic date at a beloved restaurant, reliving cherished memories from their past.
Intoxicated with emotion, Cole confronts Dylan about the unfolding scenario, culminating in a heated altercation that devolves into fisticuffs. Nikhil steps in to intervene, reluctantly bringing an early end to the evening's festivities, much to Jackie's disappointment. Erin too, feels a pang of irritation, sharing with Danny on their ride home how she often felt like a second choice during her time with Cole, and tonight, she senses a recurrence of that neglect with Danny. Danny, contrite, soothes the moment by playing a melody, inviting them to resume their interrupted dance within the confines of his car.
Seeking solace from the turmoil, Dylan finds refuge at the pizza parlor where Kiley toils, offering to lend a hand with the cleanup. Meanwhile, Cole, driven by alcohol, finds himself entangled in a passionate lip-lock with Ruby, accidentally referring to her as "New York," a slip that incenses her and prompts her abrupt departure.
Returning home, Jackie engages in a tense exchange with Alex, her frustration boiling over into an explosion of words. She confronts him about his inconsistent behavior, prompting him to confess his lingering anger coupled with an inability to let go. In a moment of vulnerability, Jackie reveals her kiss with Cole. Just then, lightning strikes the barn, igniting it in flames. Without hesitation, Alex dashes inside to rescue the horses from the encroaching inferno.
