In the second episode of "Not Dead Yet," Nell arrives at work with a heavy heart, confiding in Sam about the struggles she's facing. She reveals that she's been haunted by the ghosts of every person she's written an obituary for, leaving her frazzled and exhausted. Who knew the spirits of the deceased could be so judgmental? Conversely, Sam can't fathom her colleague's woes, as she's thriving in her role as a lifestyle editor.

Nell's troubles don't end there. She's also dealing with a pesky intern, Mason, who seems to have a personal vendetta against her. It turns out that Mason is jealous because she's been given his former office space. He declares a one-sided intern war, determined to outshine Nell, even though she repeatedly reminds him that she's not an intern.

Meanwhile, Lexi is grappling with her own crisis. The newspaper is struggling, and she's desperate for buzzy stories that will resonate with younger readers. When Nell asks for a chance to pitch an idea, Lexi rejects her, insisting that she wants something youthful and relatable. She scolds Nell for only covering stories about the old and dead.

Later, Dennis assigns Nell a new task: covering the death of a popular motivational speaker, Jane. Jane becomes a mentor to Nell, encouraging her to embrace her inner tiger and take risks. Inspired by Jane's advice, Nell decides to let her guard down and unleash her fiercer side. She finds the courage to stand up to Edward, challenging his strict rules in the house. When she learns about the case Edward is working on, she senses a potential blockbuster story and pursues it with renewed determination.

She valiantly tackled the task of writing the story and earnestly attempted to persuade Sam to assist her in discussing it with Lexi. However, Sam politely rejected her request, urging her to concentrate on the obituaries and refrain from skipping crucial steps. Nell, undeterred, decided to approach Mason and struck a deal with him. He agreed to slyly upload the article behind Dennis's back, and in return, she promised to reinstate his office.

As soon as the article was published, Lexi summoned Nell and Dennis to her office. She was displeased with Nell's piece and promptly took it down. She was on the verge of terminating Nell's employment, believing she had squandered a valuable opportunity. Yet, Sam's persuasive arguments swayed Lexi's decision, convincing her to retain Nell. Lexi conceded that Nell possessed commendable writing skills and acknowledged the positive feedback they had received regarding her obituaries. She instructed Nell to focus on her strengths in this area and refrain from overreaching.

Nell realized that she had been so fixated on her shortcomings that she had overlooked the present moment. Sam gently reminded her to appreciate her job rather than constantly striving for something else. Nell was proud of her accomplishments in writing obituaries. She penned Jane's obituary with care and made her way home. Edward, too, realized the profound impact her job had on bringing comfort and closure to many. They resolved to communicate more effectively as roommates.

The episode concluded with them visiting Cricket, Morty's wife, at her bar. Cricket was struggling with the way people were treating her like a fragile child following Morty's demise. She was grateful that Edward treated her differently, offering honest and genuine support.
