Published: Feb 27 2025

The episode kicks off with Johnny Williams (portrayed by Louis Ashbourne Serkis) discreetly handing over a package to Dan (Garmon Rhys), as Nathan Williams (Martin Clunes) trails Robyn (Cat Simmons) to a lively gathering. When Robyn halts to deliver alcohol, Nathan steps in, probing her about a drone. She firmly denies any involvement, yet in a moment of slip, mentions that if she did pilot a drone, it would be soaring over the Palisades, not his farm. Their conversation is abruptly halted by the intervention of Caleb Williams (Mark Lewis Jones). As Caleb and Nathan briefly reconnect, Johnny finds himself halted on his bike by PC Jane Crowther (Eiry Thomas).

Out There Series – Season 1 Episode 2 1

While driving Johnny home, Jane persists in her interrogation, but Johnny sticks to the same tale Rhys Simpson (Garran Howell) instructed him to maintain. Upon dropping him off, Jane warns Johnny that she operates on a two-strike system, hinting that his next encounter with her at the Raglan will be met with severe consequences. Inside, Johnny bumps into Nathan, and they exchange brief words about Caleb having sold his farm shares years prior. Johnny swiftly conceals the money Dan entrusted him with, while Nathan retrieves a farm map from his safe, focusing intently on a particular creek.

The subsequent morning, Nathan ventures to the location he had scrutinized on the map. There, he calls Caleb, apologizing for meddling in his affairs and arranging a meeting. At school, Sadie Simpson (Carly-Sophia Davies) approaches Johnny, relaying that Rhys seeks his attention. Rhys informs Johnny that they've landed Dan in hot water over a missing package and must make several deliveries to rectify the situation. Johnny apologizes but declines to assist. Later that day at lunch, Johnny seeks Sadie's counsel, to which she simply replies by urging him to aid Rhys.

Returning home from school that afternoon, Johnny overhears Eva Bartosz (Natalia Kostrzewa) informing Nathan of her residence at the end of West Ulster on Avenue Row. Nathan then visits Gwen Thomas (Sharon Morgan) in the hospital, where he learns of her atrial fibrillation. In the midst of offering to purchase her farm, Gwen's nephew, Gethin (Gareth David-Lloyd), arrives. As Gethin accompanies Nathan out, he assures him that when the time comes to sell the farm, he will advise his aunt to accept the most lucrative offer.

Later that night, Eva stumbled upon Johnny in the act of breaking into her apartment. He confided in her about the mysterious package, pleading with her not to inform Nathan, yet she relented and told him anyway. Nathan, upon inspecting the package, surmised that it belonged to Rhys and likely harbored illicit drugs. Eva affirmed his suspicion, revealing that everyone on the Estate was privy to Rhys's dealings in marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. The pressing question now shifted to the identity of the thief.

Even deeper into the night, Nathan and Johnny confronted Rhys, attempting to bribe him with 500 pounds to overlook the package. Rhys responded with derision, suggesting they add another zero to their offer. It was then that Sadie intervened, disclosing that Rhys had stolen the package as a means to endear Johnny to him through a debt of gratitude. Just as their dispute began to escalate, a drug-addled individual burst through the back door, desperate for a fix. Rhys attempted to usher him out, but the addict made a beeline for his stash, cleverly concealed in the return vent. In the ensuing struggle, Rhys wrestled him out the back door, while Nathan seized the opportunity to snatch the stash and flush it down the toilet. Rhys issued dire threats that left Johnny shaken but failed to rattle Nathan.

The following day, Jane attended a meeting with DCI Neil Anderson (Jack Parry-Jones), presenting the intelligence she had gathered at Raglan Castle. Anderson discouraged her, asserting that her actions could jeopardize a larger investigation they were orchestrating.

While patrolling in his UATV, Nathan encountered the drone once more. This time, he aimed and successfully brought it down with a shot. At lunch, Sadie confessed to Johnny that she was obliged to travel to Newport after school to deliver something to a person named Kenny Davies (Josef Altin). Johnny quickly discerned her reluctance but understood that she had no choice, as Jane was hot on Rhys's trail. One more slip-up could lead to Rhys's arrest, which would consequently send Sadie back into foster care. Johnny, moved by her plight, not only gave her extra money to cover any shortfall but also volunteered to accompany her.

Nathan drops by Palisades to bring Caleb his lunch, sweetening the gesture by presenting him with a job opportunity as the farm's security guard. Caleb brushes off the proposal initially, dismissing it as a mere idle thought—until Nathan divulges the recent scrape Johnny found himself in with Rhys. Though hesitant to commit on the spot, Caleb does agree to confront Rhys should he dare to set foot on the farm again.

Prior to his visit to the Skirrid Inn, Nathan dials Johnny, informing him of his impending absence but reassuring him that he'll be back well before Johnny concludes his dip in the pool. Arriving at the Inn, Nathan stealthily enters Scott Foley's (portrayed by Michael Obiora) quarters, where he unearths an assortment of visitor passes for Palisades, along with a USB drive cunningly affixed to a detailed map of his estate.

Meanwhile, Johnny and Sadie catch the bus bound for Newport, eager to rendezvous with Kenny. Upon his return home, Nathan dives into examining the contents of the USB drive. To his astonishment, he discovers footage capturing him discharging a drone earlier that day, yet the face of the operator remains obscured.

The episode culminates in a cliffhanger as Johnny and Sadie finally meet up with Kenny, setting the stage for further developments.
