Episode 10 of Season 7 of "Outlander" kicks off with a nostalgic flashback to the days when Mr. Murray instructed a youthful Jamie and Ian in the art of synchronized combat. In the contemporary storyline, Ian and Jamie revisit the sacred ground where their bonding began, reinforcing their unbreakable brotherhood. Tragically, Ian's life draws to a close with Jenny and Jamie holding his hand, and Jamie insists on digging Ian's grave single-handedly, a labor of love and grief. He extends an invitation to Jenny to embark on his journey with him, but she respectfully declines, choosing instead to remain by her children's side until they no longer need her nurturing embrace.
Elsewhere, Claire and Young Ian arrive in Philadelphia, now occupied by the British forces. Their paths diverge as Ian embarks on a solo mission to locate Rachel, leaving Claire to proceed to Mercy Woodcock's abode. To her surprise, she discovers that Mercy is a fierce Black rebel woman who has taken Henry Gray as a prisoner of war. Lord John's reluctance to relocate Henry post-occupation has left him in Mercy's care, and a burgeoning affection for him shines in her eyes. Mercy is eager to assist Claire, revealing that Denzell, who happens to be in town with Rachel and William, was the surgeon who initially operated on Henry. Claire's request for Denzell to perform a risky surgery to remove a bullet from Henry's body leaves him astounded.
Meanwhile, Rachel and William engage in light-hearted chatter while grocery shopping, but her declaration that they will become adversaries once the war resumes casts a shadow over his spirits. Just as he's about to respond, Rollo takes off after something, prompting Rachel to mistake the commotion for Ian's return. She calls out his name, unaware that Arch Bug is observing her from afar. Ian, indeed, is nearby, as Rollo eventually locates him.
Switching to the 1739 timeline where Roger and Buck have unexpectedly arrived, Geillis exhibits an overly amicable demeanor towards the menfolk. Roger sent her to find the herbs needed to treat Buck, and revealed Geillis' past to Buck, but concealed her true identity. The shocking fact that above is Buck's mother. Roger regarded this encounter as a pure coincidence, while Buck firmly believed that Geillis and Rob had a cross-era connection, and even speculated that he followed Jem through time and space just to complete Geillis' blood sacrifice ritual.
Convinced of his mission, Roger prowls around until Geillis discovers him, unperturbed as she attempts to seduce him, only to be politely but firmly turned down. He ponders whether she might know a fairy named Rob Cameron, but her genuine astonishment suggests otherwise, dashing Buck's theory into smithereens. Roger suspects that they were transported to 1739 solely to heal Buck's affliction. Just then, Dougal bursts in with tales of a peculiarly attired fairy.
In the year 1778, Rachel and William await the outcome of Henry's surgery with hearts pounding. Claire, Mercy, and Denzell are locked in intense concentration as they operate. The operation is a triumph; Claire locates the bullet embedded in Henry's intestine, a discovery Denzell would have missed without the exploratory surgery.
Mercy needs to catch her breath, memories of her husband flooding her mind. Claire, sensing her turmoil, correctly deduces that she is Walter's wife. She reassures Mercy that Walter held no ill will towards her and passed away with thoughts of her in his heart. Meanwhile, William and Rachel exchange tender farewells. He yearns to confess his feelings but settles for the promise of eternal friendship.
Rachel heads to the stables where Arch Bug ambushes her. Ian, upon finding Denzell, learns about their makeshift stable quarters and rushes to Rachel's aid. He arrives to find Arch still burning with vengeance for his wife's demise. Despite their best efforts to reason with him, Arch attacks blindly. He nearly fells Ian, but William, having retraced his steps to confess his love, intervenes and shoots Arch. He covers for Rachel and Ian while they flee to Claire.
Ian is consumed by guilt, prompting Rachel to comprehend why he wanted her to stay away. He declares his undying love for her and even vows to convert to Quakerism for her sake. However, she rejects this notion, cherishing him for who he is.
Soon, the tragic news of Ian Sr.'s demise arrives, leaving Young Ian heartbroken yet resigned to fate. Meanwhile, Jamie, who is in France to visit Joan, has also had the chance encounter with acquaintances of Benjamin Franklin. The letter brings a ray of sunshine as well, revealing that Jamie has embarked on a ship bound for the United States and will arrive any day now.
Back in 1739, Dougal produces dog tags inscribed with the initials J.M., which Roger swiftly snatches away from Geillis's gaze. With a wave of his hand, Dougal is immediately enchanted by Geillis, who leads him to her private chambers. Amidst their distraction, Roger shares a joyful revelation with Buck: his father, Jeremiah MacKenzie, was a pilot who vanished without a trace. Roger believes that the faerie spotted by the locals is not Rob, but his father, who has embarked on a journey through time.
However, the joy is shattered in 1778. Mercy, a rebel spy, has been exposed. She possesses urgent letters that need to be delivered, and Claire volunteers to take on this perilous task. Narrowly escaping capture, Claire manages to convince the officers that she was merely foraging. She returns home to receive the devastating news that Jamie's ship has sunk, with no survivors. Stunned and refusing to believe his demise, Claire retreats into herself, locking herself in her room. Lord John, deeply concerned for her well-being, finds himself at a loss.
At the conclusion of Outlander Season 7 Episode 10, Colonel Richardson informs Lord John that there is incriminating evidence pointing to Claire as a spy. However, as a gesture of courtesy to Lord John, Richardson agrees to postpone her arrest for a day. Lord John, desperate to protect Claire, bursts into her bedroom and urges her to marry him. He insists that this is the only way to safeguard her, and it serves as his final favor to Jamie. If Claire is arrested, Mercy, Denzell, Rachel, and Ian will all be implicated and face suspicion.
