Paradise – Season 2 Episode 4 1

At present, Annie tells Xavier that he will need two weeks to recover before going out and about. She also insists that he take her to Colorado. Over the next few days, he grows stronger and makes it clear that his priority is finding his wife. She offers to help find his wife in Atlanta if he will then take her to her baby's father in Colorado. He agrees. When Xavier's not around, Annie spends time checking her blood pressure, looking worried.

Eventually, the pair pack up and head out. At their first rest stop, Link's ID card falls out of Annie's pocket, and Xavier recognizes him from his dream. He confesses to having dreams that feel more like memories of things that haven't happened yet. The next day, they come across a wagon filled with travelers, and the atmosphere is tense as they cross paths. Annie warns Xavier not to say anything, but he insists on greeting them—only getting harsh stares in return.

The pair takes a break at an empty waffle place where Xavier shows Annie how to swaddle a baby. Xavier tries to encourage Annie to believe in the best of people and to look forward to the joy of having a child. He calls it a holy charge.

The next morning, Annie's water breaks just as they're about to head out. She admits to Xavier that she has a condition called preeclampsia, which means her blood pressure is abnormally high. She asks him for supplies to help deliver the baby, but the empty waffle store doesn't have anything.

In the flashback, Cal visits Luisa, who is getting ready for the birth. Sometime later, the baby's heart rate drops, and Luisa is rushed to the OR. Cal goes inside to give her emotional support, with Xavier in tow. Cal holds Luisa's hand and tells her a story about how resilient babies are in order to encourage her.

Xavier decides to go and get help from the people they saw earlier. Annie begs him not to go, but he seems confident that he will get help. He runs over to the nearest farmhouse but nobody seems to be inside. He starts looking for supplies but gets ambushed by two men with guns. But the next thing we know, he's back at the waffle shop along with the people from the farmhouse—they're here to help!

As the two women labor to bring forth their babies, we are treated to a beautifully interwoven tapestry of present and past scenes. In a poignant conclusion, both infants are born healthy and strong, symbolizing hope and renewal amidst the turmoil of the world. Yet, Annie's journey is not yet complete. She knows her time is limited and, with a heavy heart, entrusts Xavier with a letter for her daughter, imploring him to ensure she's not afraid of people and to guide her to her father in Colorado. This sacred charge is passed down, as Xavier holds onto Annie as she takes her last breath, eventually burying her with the help of the compassionate folk at the farmhouse.

One of the women offers to raise the baby, reminding them all of their shared ancestry from a time when a volcanic eruption centuries ago reduced the human population to a mere thousand. They've all but forgotten how closely connected they truly are.

Days later, Xavier embarks on a journey, his baby securely strapped to the horse's front. In a nostalgic flashback, Sinatra visits Luisa's home, showering her with congratulations and even watching over the infant while she rests, whispering to the boy that one day he'll gaze upon the true expanse of the sky.

Meanwhile, Link and his team reach the border of the Colorado bunker, their messages flickering on the camera's screen, demanding an audience with their leader. Meanwhile, Xavier arrives at Teri's radio broadcast location in Atlanta, where he's met by a man who claims to be Teri's best friend for the past three years. The man sadly informs Xavier that she's been taken.
