Episode 2 of "Peacemaker" takes us eight months back in time, to the pivotal moment when Rick Flag Sr. embarked on his tenure as the director of A.R.G.U.S. Economus introduces him to the facility, guiding him through to his opulent office. However, a request awaits him that he is utterly unprepared to confront.
Flag Sr. demands the files pertaining to the Suicide Squad's fateful mission in Corto Maltese. Economus, sensing the gravity, tries to dissuade him from delving into those painful archives, but to no avail. The man's resolve hardens, and he eventually secures the file, retreating to his desk to peruse its contents alone.
As he reads each word, detailing the tragic demise of his son while striving to do what was right, a wave of sorrow and fury washes over him. Upon discovering that Peacemaker was the one who took Rick Flag Jr.'s life, he slams his fist onto the desk, resolved to keep a relentless watch on the anti-hero's abode, round the clock.
The narrative then shifts to the present, where Peacemaker stands under the shower, futilely attempting to scrub away the bloodstains clinging to his skin. Elsewhere, Lee makes an unexpected stop at Keeya's house, hoping to retrieve some belongings. But to her astonishment, Keeya is present. A heartfelt conversation ensues, revealing their disparate perspectives on their respective paths. As Lee bids farewell, she utters words of love, which fall on deaf ears, as Keeya remains silent.
Meanwhile, Economos continues his surveillance of Peacemaker's house when a sudden knock disrupts his vigil. Enter Fleury, his enigmatic new partner. Their personalities clash immediately, with Fleury's quirks standing out prominently. One of his most peculiar traits is his bird blindness, rendering him incapable of distinguishing between birds, regardless of size, species, or any other distinguishing feature.
As they keep their eyes glued to Peacemaker's house, Lee arrives, seeking answers about the peculiar door hidden within. She unveils the truth about A.R.G.U.S.'s relentless pursuit of him and offers sage advice: confess about the pocket dimension or risk being framed and arrested.
He remains uncertain about his next course of action, but their discourse is abruptly halted by Chase's unexpected arrival. They agree to reconvene at a gathering at Harcourt's residence, bidding each other farewell amidst the interruption. Peacemaker reaches out to Adrian, seeking assistance in disposing of his doppelgänger's remains. Despite pondering Lee's words, he resolves to press on with his scheme and ventures into the pocket dimension, inadvertently triggering an alert to A.R.G.U.S. Upon receiving this signal, Bordeaux instructs Fleury to circumvent Economus's authority and, under the cover of night, lead a team to thoroughly search the premises.
Inside, Peacemaker and Adrian embark on the grim task of dissecting the bodies. While Chase appears eerily composed, the protagonist is profoundly unsettled by the gravity of their actions. His distress intensifies as they incinerate the corpses, the sight of the deceased eyes staring back at him haunting his very soul. Amidst the act of tossing the body parts into the incinerator, his alternate self's phone slips from his pocket, revealing glimpses of an alternate life he might have led—a life where he and Harcourt could have been a blissful couple.
However, lost in these revelations, he fails to notice that A.R.G.U.S. is already orchestrating their move to secure incriminating evidence against him. Fleury's team readies their weapons and inspection tools, poised to enter the house the moment Peacemaker exits. Yet, Fleury halts their advancement, arguing that they must wait lest the suspect returns for something overlooked, sparking a heated debate among them.
Economus arrives first at Harcourt's abode, and they ascend to the rooftop for a libation. Just as suddenly, Chase shows up almost simultaneously, albeit via the fire escape. Harcourt's displeasure is evident, yet Chase remains blissfully unaware of her earnest disapproval. Soon after, Peacemaker and Lee arrive, signaling the commencement of the gathering.
Meanwhile, Fleury's team is already attempting to infiltrate Peacemaker's residence, advancing with alarming swiftness. Within moments, one team member detects an unusual door. As he prepares to unlock it, Eagly strikes with ferocity, revealing his lethal prowess by viciously assaulting each intruder. Despite Fleury's efforts to assist, his avian blindness renders him nearly helpless. Even when Eagly is within arm's reach, Fleury is oblivious to his exact location. The eagle eventually vanquishes the entire team, saving Fleury for last, whom it disables with a concussive blow to the head.
In stark contrast, Peacemaker and his companions are reveling in merriment. They indulge in libations, revelry, and communal dancing. The protagonist seizes the moment to draw Harcourt closer, engaging in conversation and laughter. However, their bonding is fleeting. When Peacemaker inquires about her injured eye, he attempts to reassure her that confrontation serves no purpose and that he empathizes with her plight. This statement irritates her, prompting a tide of criticism. In her fury, she deserts him, joining the others in their festivities.
Later, Peacemaker returns home in a drunken state stupor, oblivious to the intrusion. In his intoxicated state, he commits the ultimate faux pas: sending a message to the alternate Harcourt. When it fails to deliver, he makes an even more egregious decision. In his inebriated condition, he stumbles into the pocket dimension and ventures into the alternate reality. There, the message finally reaches its intended recipient, and Harcourt responds instantaneously. As he listens to his father and brother searching for him and discussing the bloodstains at his house, he remains rooted to his spot, staring blankly at his phone.
