In the seventh episode of "Phantom Lawyer," Do-gyeong reprimands Na-hyun after the events of the last case. It becomes apparent that despite her victory for Su-jeong, the lab is demanding compensation for the damages caused by the fire and the lost animals. Do-gyeong takes disciplinary action, but Na-hyun chooses to quit, asserting that the Taebaek firm is no longer the same without the Chairman.

Meanwhile, I-rang mistakes the newly hired guard at his firm for a ghost. His lack of ghost clients for two weeks prompts him to start cleaning up in preparation for accepting live clients. However, memories of his time spent with the ghosts keep resurfacing, but he pushes them aside, insisting that he is content with his freedom.
Elsewhere, Do-gyeong invites Na-hyun out for coffee, thinking that her decision to quit was just a fluke. He offers her a vacation to their New York offices where she can take some time off to gather her thoughts and return. However, her decision was not impulsive, and she turns him down, quitting again.
Do-gyeong is frustrated and angry about her decision, so he calls his assistant to block Na-hyun in the industry, hoping she will come back to him. When she applies for jobs, she gets rejected from every law firm she interviews with. During one interview, she discovers that her application has a red cross. She remembers how she treated I-rang when he interviewed at Taebaek, so she tears it up and walks out.
At the same time, I-rang struggles with paying utility bills and has not been getting any clients. Bong-soo advises him to market himself in court houses, visiting people going through hard times rather than sitting in his office. Na-hyun has a similar idea and looks for clients at the courthouse after spending a significant portion of her savings on damages at the laboratory and maintenance fees. She prints out some business cards and hands them out at the courthouse.
I-rang takes deliberate steps to market himself, but his efforts are met with a less-than-stellar outcome as a frustrated woman chides him outside the courtroom. He sits at a bench where he once sat, waiting for his father, and memories from that time flood his mind. A friend passes by and hands him a client he has yet to meet with, as he is preoccupied with other cases.
I-rang runs into Na-hyun, who is also handing out business cards, and she tries to hide and run from him. She trips and breaks her heel. She goes on a tirade about all the bad things that have happened, including lost cases and damages she had to pay. I-rang helps her sit while he rushes to the cobbler to get her heel repaired. Do-gyeong sees them together.
While waiting, I-rang notices the woman whom Na-hyun was talking to earlier when he interrupted them. It turns out that she was not asking to be her attorney but encouraging the woman protesting outside the courthouse to take care of herself so she can have the strength to fight. After talking to the woman, I-rang delves deeper into the case where young Na-hyun protested outside the courtroom. She once confronted him, thinking he was taking advantage of a grieving woman by taking on her case for money.
Later at home, Na-hyun receives a call from her father asking her to visit them for a homemade meal during her upcoming birthday, but she chooses to dine out with them instead. She then gets a call from a potential client. It turns out that the client was involved in a construction scam, and he wanted Na-hyun to prove his innocence using the vague contract the protestors signed.
At the same time, I-rang's friend calls to warn him not to call the client he referred because he is a part of a construction gang. I-rang realizes that Na-hyun might be in danger since he referred the client to her. Meanwhile, Na-hyun pretends to take the case, tricking the gang leader into providing crucial information, including the fake title deed, used to convince the buyers to sign contracts. She steps out under the guise of heading to the restroom and calls prosecutor Kim.
Back inside, she stalls as much as she can but gives herself away when she hears someone approach, thinking it was prosecutor Kim. I-rang and Na-hyun have to run for their lives with the documents in hand. They almost fall into the hands of the gang, but prosecutor Kim shows up just in time to arrest them.
I-rang is injured in the ensuing commotion, prompting Na-hyun to visit him later. As they share a few drinks, Na-hyun confides in him about her sister, So-hyun. It was So-hyun's dream to become a lawyer, and when she passed away, Na-hyun felt responsible and believed it wouldn't be right to pursue her own aspirations. Thus, she decided to live the life of her late sister. Na-hyun gets so drunk that I-rang calls a chauffeur, but he doesn't feel comfortable leaving her alone. He accompanies her home and helps her inside. There, he witnesses numerous photographs of Na-hyun and her sister, especially those from their protests outside the courthouse. In her drunken state, she mutters that she wishes I-rang could see her sister. It turns out that I-rang knows how to see ghosts again, but he didn't consider that step for his family. He also believed that it was better to let bygones be bygones and failed to understand the longing of the bereaved who wish they could see their loved ones one last time. So, he decides to remove the wallpaper and uncover all the talismans, including the mysterious white one. He lights incense, breathes in the smoke, and falls asleep. Outside, the cab I-rang took to the office belongs to Na-hyun's father. He calls her mother, informing her that he's outside the shaman's office they visited after So-hyun's death. He's saddened to see that it's now a lawyer's office. Inside the office, I-rang awakens to see a new ghost watching the stars. Unlike the others, she's not hovering above the ground. When she turns around, he's shocked to realize that it's So-hyun, Na-hyun's sister.
