Reacher – Season 1 Episode 3 1

Finlay and Jasper have identified the second victim: Pete Jobling, a driver for South Freight Shipping. His record is remarkably clean, barring a minor traffic infraction that escalated to disorderly conduct, yet he was acquitted due to the intervention of Zacarias Perez LLP, an esteemed legal firm not typically associated with truckers.

Molly Beth, a member of the secret service, calls urgently, seeking Joe's attention. However, her hopes are swiftly dashed upon learning of his demise, and she is overcome with grief, sobbing uncontrollably.

After gathering her composure, Molly manages to relay the gravity of the situation to Jack. It transpires that Joe was, in fact, the director of the Office of Investigations, specifically overseeing a significant anti-counterfeiting unit. His assignment involved a covert mission in Margrave, one he had assigned to himself, unknown to all but Molly, who was close to him. She vows to maintain confidentiality while gathering crucial documents to uncover the truth behind this mysterious international affair, potentially stemming from South America.

For the moment, the gang resolves to maintain a facade with Roscoe at the station. Upon her arrival, Teale is already there, ready with a list of potential male suspects to investigate. Of course, this entire charade is merely a deception, but she acts convincingly.

Concurrently, Finlay manages to uncover Spivey's home address and appears unannounced. After forcing his way in, he discovers the abode deserted, albeit a chaotic mess, largely due to Spivey's own antics. His attention is drawn to the man's phone, abandoned on the bedside table, with numerous calls logged to Kliner. However, the police interrupt, mistaking Finlay for a burglar and violently restrain him.

Meanwhile, Reacher makes his way to Zacarias Perez's office. Without much ado, he demands Jobling's file. Threatening the lawyer with a taut phone cord, Perez hastily retrieves the necessary documents and surrenders them.

Later, the trio reunites at Jolene's, a cozy restaurant. As they dine, Reacher confirms that the shipping company was indeed contracted by Kliner Industries, who even footed the legal bills for the trucker. This, coupled with the numerous calls between Spivey and Kliner, points to Kliner as the likely culprit. And so, without hesitation, Reacher prepares to stir up the hornet's nest.

With Finlay as his steadfast companion, the duo ventured forth to visit Kliner Sr. Oddly, the exterior was devoid of any security cameras, a perplexing sight indeed. Upon entering, Reacher's gaze was drawn to the numerous deer heads mounted on the walls, testament to the prowess of skilled hunters.

In Kliner's office, he justified his decision to engage a capable lawyer for Jobling, claiming it was to ensure his drivers remained on the road. He professed ignorance regarding the current situation and took offense to their probing inquiries. In fact, Kliner's words seemed to irk Finlay, who suggested this investigation was a wasted effort. However, Finlay refused to relent and retorted with a threat, insisting that Kliner must not hinder their investigation. Reacher struggled to suppress his smirk.

As they returned to the town, Reacher urged Finlay to gather his belongings and depart. Trust was scarce, and if Kliner was indeed the mastermind, those earlier threats would surely lead to trouble. Roscoe's abode had been ransacked, and Finlay's safety was paramount. Therefore, he was relocated to a motel just beyond the town's periphery.

Meanwhile, Reacher remained resolute in his pursuit of Spivey, sensing he held the key to the puzzle. In his absence, KJ appeared, encountering Roscoe at the gas station. He agitated her, accusing Reacher of murdering civilians in Baghdad. Yet, Roscoe disregarded his words and drove away, leaving KJ to claim he was merely trying to "warn" her.

Reacher discovered that Spivey had fled the town with a pair of Spanish men. Aware that he was being trailed, he seized the opportunity to ambush them first. As the Spaniards inspected the empty car he had abandoned moments earlier, Reacher crept up from behind and swiftly dispatched both men. Retrieving the gloves he had snatched from the bar, he stumbled upon a bundle of cash in their pockets. Tragically, he also found Spivey in the trunk, a bullet piercing his forehead.
