In the opening of episode 6 of Scarpetta, a flashback takes us back to a young Benton, seen counting obsessively as he buttons his shirt. His mother, a psychiatrist, observes his preoccupation with violence and promises to help him understand it, so he doesn't hurt anyone. He descends into the basement through the trapdoor we saw in the previous episode, delving into his mother's psychology books. One of these books contains a clipping of the murdered woman we saw in episode 5.

Scarpetta – Season 1 Episode 6 1

In the present, Benton awakens in the same basement and begins his workday. Scarpetta conducts the autopsy on the other two astronauts and updates Marino on the findings. In a flashback, Scarpetta arrives at Abby's house after the murder of her sister, Henna. Scarpetta determines that the death occurred between 8 and 11 pm, ruling out Matt Peterson, who Marino was following the entire time. City Attorney Boltz visits, and Abby angrily orders him to leave. Boltz tells Marino that they went on a date and slept together once. However, Abby tells Scarpetta that she believes Boltz drugged and raped her that night. Scarpetta admits that Boltz also asked her out and that she got a strange feeling from him. Scarpetta goes home and tells Lucy to stay inside for a while due to her concerns about the situation.

In the present, Lucy is arguing with AI Janet about talking to people other than her. Dorothy comes by and tells Lucy that she and Marino are moving out and asks if Lucy will move with them. In the conversation, Lucy accidentally reveals that Marino attacked Matt, which riles Dorothy up once again.

Elsewhere, Marino apologizes to Scarpetta for the attack and they arrive at Benton and Sierra's office to give them the bullets from the bodies. She asks Benton and Sierra for information on the Cammie Rammada case but they claim to have nothing. Determined to get to the bottom of the case, Scarpetta tells Maggie that she will order an exhumation of the body.

In a flashback, Marino doesn't believe that Boltz raped Abby, and Scarpetta argues with him about it. Scarpetta examines Henna's body and realizes that the killer raped her with a knife. Scarpetta and Benton discuss the killer's mentality and consider if they could flush him out by humiliating him. They talk to Abby about publishing an article revealing his metabolic disorder. Abby seems to agree but then reveals that it was her in the car outside Scarpetta's house that night when she was with Benton. She wanted to warn Scarpetta about Boltz since she had heard they were dating. But she agrees to keep the secret about her and Benton.

Currently, Marino and Scarpetta venture down the jogging path where Cammie used to run before her tragic demise. Their curiosity piques as they ponder what could have compelled her to deviate from the path and make her way to the riverside. Along the riverbank, Scarpetta discovers a penny—an eerie resemblance to Gwen's case! At home, Dorothy stirs the pot with Benton by sharing her suspicions that Marino has feelings for Scarpetta. Benton dismisses this notion, unaware of Scarpetta's deep-seated fear that her first case might unravel. Meanwhile, Scarpetta and Marino discuss her relationship with Benton, with Marino urging her to get off her high horse as she's hiding something significant from him too.

Past the present, Dorothy returns home. Apparently, Scarpetta called her due to a loose murderer on the loose. Their initial plan was for Lucy to accompany Dorothy, but they decide to stay put so that Lucy can assist Scarpetta in tracking down the hacker who infiltrated her computer. Meanwhile, AI Janet advises Lucy to be kinder to her mother. She receives a call from Fruge, and they engage in a brief conversation. When Scarpetta returns home, Benton confronts her about her secret regarding the Matt Peterson case. She asserts there's nothing to tell, and Benton storms off. He retreats to a motel room where he employs a mosquito racket to capture a bug, only to watch it slowly perish.

The episode concludes with a clip of the killer leaving the very same motel, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats, anticipating the next thrilling turn in this gripping mystery.
