Single Drunk Female – Season 1 Episode 7

Published: Jul 17 2024

Episode 7 of "Single Drunk Female" kicks off with Sam and James disembarking from the bustling New York bus. As they traverse the city's streets, Sam realizes that her alcohol-fueled past has clouded her memories of this vibrant city. Prior to her impending interview, Olivia sends her a heartfelt text, offering words of motivation. However, Stephanie frets that Olivia is too focused on her responsibilities as a surrogate and wishes she would devote more energy to the search for a sperm donor.

In the heart of New York, Nathaniel extends an invitation to Sam, urging her to visit his office at Smug Media. He praises her sample piece as "brilliant," albeit a tad too intellectual for their company's taste. He believes she'd be a perfect fit for the role, which, as he elaborates, involves covering local cultural events. When Nathaniel delicately inquires about whether Sam's breakdown marked her lowest point, she opens up, sharing vulnerabilities and personal struggles. But sensing his discomfort with her honesty, she diverts the conversation with a humorous anecdote about a drunken mishap. Nathaniel laughs heartily, remarking that such tales are exactly what Smug Media is after.

Later, Nathaniel invites Sam to join him and his colleagues for a night out at a lively bar. He advises her to bring her newfound self-confidence, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the fun aspects rather than dwelling on the sorrowful ones.

After her interview, Sam indulges in a street vendor's hot dog and stumbles upon a hundred-dollar bill in her purse. She calls her mother to express gratitude for the unexpected gift, but learns it wasn't her doing. Carol interrogates Bob, and he confesses, admitting that he slipped the money to Sam without consulting her. Carol's anger boils over, accusing him of stepping into the shoes of Sam's late father, whose absence she deeply misses. Bob approaches her with open arms, offering comfort and support.

Meanwhile, James' interview with potential investors regarding his sobriety app goes swimmingly. They express keen interest in acquiring the app, signaling a promising future for his venture.

Back in Boston, Stephanie grapples with the physical toll of IVF injections, doubting Olivia's genuine desire for a child. Olivia apologizes for her distant behavior, vowing to be more involved and refusing to let Stephanie face this journey alone. She offers to carry their baby, a proposal that Stephanie readily accepts.

At the bar, Sam meets Nathaniel and his coworker, discovering that her potential role would involve more than just reporting on cultural events. Nathaniel rationalizes that given her past struggles with addiction, being a "party reporter" would be a suitable fit. However, Sam finds the conversation overwhelming and excuses herself, taking deep breaths outside the bustling venue.

Upon hearing that James' meeting with investors was a success, Sam offers to stay in New York until he finalizes the deal. James warns her against making such offers, admitting that he finds it difficult to continuously decline her kindness.

The episode culminates with Sam boarding a bus back home, her heart filled with anticipation for her return. Felicia sends her a text, expressing her joy in Sam's imminent arrival. Sam responds with a simple yet heartfelt, "Me too."
