Devon, meanwhile, wanders into the kitchen of the main house, engaging in lighthearted conversation with the staff. She discovers she's been included on the guest list for an upcoming gala but when Jocelyn's name slips from her lips, the staff falls eerily silent.

Elsewhere, Peter spots Devon on the grounds and beckons her up to his tower for a shared cigarette. As they smoke and chat, Devon inquisitively asks Peter about his encounter with Michaela. He recounts how Michaela's law firm handled his merger case, ultimately leading to her withdrawal and his divorce. With a thoughtful gesture, he offers Devon the remainder of his cigarette before excusing himself.

Simone and Michaela return to the house, resuming their work routine as if nothing had transpired. Peter, chance encountering Simone, reveals his awareness of her recent panic attack. Drawing from personal experience, he expresses empathy for her struggle, acknowledging his own battles with panic attacks.

This revised narrative aims to enrich the storytelling, making the scenes more vivid and emotionally charged while maintaining the original meaning.

Michaela subsequently dials Simone's number and presents her with the two distinctively ribboned magpie chocolate boxes, insisting that the ribbons bear differences, hinting that Peter might not have actually been in Japan. As Peter enters the scene, Simone exits. Peter confides in Michaela his inability to reach Ethan, to which Michaela responds by revealing Ethan's intent to sever ties with Simone. She then confronts Peter about his Japanese sojourn, to which he responds with sarcasm, clouding the truth. In a huff, Peter storms off to inform Jose of his desire to disconnect from society entirely. Michaela, sensing an opportunity, urges Simone to tail him discreetly.

Devon awakens from a nap in the tower room, stretching her limbs before wandering through the mansion. Her wanderings lead her to Michaela, soaking in a tub. Donning a robe, Michaela steers the conversation towards Devon's mother, commending her for nurturing Simone despite the challenges. Devon, however, corrects her, sharing that her mother had abandoned them for college, leaving Simone to grapple with a depressed father unable to meet their basic needs. The stress had driven Simone to suicidal thoughts. Empathizing, Michaela reveals her own tragic loss of a mother at a tender age, reassuring Devon of her commendable efforts in raising Simone, making her feel valued and acknowledged.

Unexpectedly, Devon finds herself in a car alongside Michaela's trio of female companions, embarking on a girls' day out with no recollection of how she had joined them.

Back at Cliff House, Michaela dials Jose, demanding clarity on whether Peter had orchestrated her exclusion from his financial accounts. Jose remains tight-lipped, prompting Michaela to issue his dismissal. He, however, counters that he serves at Peter's pleasure, rendering her attempt futile.

Simone updates Michaela on Peter's newest escapade – procuring marijuana. Seeking legal counsel, Michaela discusses her prenuptial agreement with Peter, only to be informed that proof of his infidelity is required to invalidate its clauses – proof she lacks.

Simone finds herself ensnared by Peter, who coerces her into an unwelcome expedition: clam fishing at sea. Confessing his whereabouts during the absence that had aroused suspicion, Peter reveals he was attending his grandson's christening, far from Japan. It transpires that his children harbor a dislike for Michaela, who has even attempted to sever their ties with their father.

Elsewhere, Evon finds herself whisked away on an opulent dress-shopping spree. Michaela's friends regale Devon with tales of how Michaela had been their savior, recounting how they'd all landed wealthy partners. Just as they marvel at their good fortune, Jordan, whose true identity is Morgan, strides in and compliments Devon on her appearance.

Peter and Simone, unexpectedly finding camaraderie, share stories, with Peter revealing Ethan's notorious habit of seducing young women and disappearing by Labor Day. Amidst laughter, Peter suddenly leans in to kiss her, but Simone retracts, bolting onto her bike without delay.

On her return journey, she halts to leave Ethan a voicemail, puzzled by his silence. Michaela calls for an update, to which Simone assures her that Peter's behavior remains unremarkable. Inquiring about Ethan, Michaela admits she too has heard nothing. Unsettled, Simone speeds to Ethan's residence.

Devon, in Morgan's company, learns disturbing gossip: whispers that Michaela might be implicated in Jocelyn's demise. He extends an invitation for a winter boat trip, but Devon hesitates, their conversation abruptly cut short by Simone's call.

They converge at Ethan's house, Simone convinced he hasn't left, evidenced by his belongings still scattered about. Devon, jumping to conclusions, insists Michaela might have harmed Ethan and urges Simone to flee the island post-haste. Chaos ensues as Michaela repeatedly tries to reach Simone, even employing Ethan's house intercom to announce her arrival.

Yet, it is Ethan who arrives, accompanied by two unexpected guests: Simone's father and Ray. Ethan explains his mysterious absence: a trip to New York, hampered by a forgotten charger. Simone's confusion melts away as Ethan drops to one knee, a ring gleaming in his hand.
